Self Catering Cottages In Cumbria The Lake District. - Beck Cottage

Overview

Property

Updated: 10-Dec-2016
4 unique self catering cottages for 2-4-4-6 Or collectively sleeping 16 people

Our self catering cottages have featured in Country Living Magazine's 'Great Escapes'. They are comfortable, well furnished and are maintained to the highest standards by the resident owners.

Each cottage was created from a range of ancient stone barns, a project which was voted 'the best barn conversion in the North of England'. All cottages have large wood burning stoves as well as gas central heating for that cosy night in by the fire.

The large informal gardens and pastures surrounding our holiday cottages are a haven for rabbits, badgers and red squirrels. They are host to dozens of species of migrant and resident birds including woodpeckers, tree creepers and nuthatches, whilst the Fells above us are home to skylarks, curlews, buzzards and peregrine falcons.

A cosy Hideaway for two set by a mountain stream

Beck cottage was featured on the Country Living Magazine Calendar. It’s set apart from our other cottages in it’s own wildlife garden with a mountain Beck (stream) bordering the gardens. The cottage was sympathetically created from a range of ancient stone farm buildings retaining many original features such as beamed ceilings and exposed stonework. Our 4 cottages were refurbished in 2010 with English Oak floors and new bathrooms and all have gas central heating as well as large wood-burning stoves/open fires.

The cottage is on one level. It has an entrance hall opening onto a large lounge area with a wood-burning stove, a well-equipped farmhouse kitchen and dining area. There is a double bedroom, and a bathroom with a bath & shower. The cottage which is set in its own wildlife garden

The cottages have been rated 4 STAR by Visit England (formerly English Tourist Board) and are maintained to a high standard.

Romantic idyll in beautiful surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage in idyllic surroundings. A cozy retreat. Perfectly placed for Lakes and the Pennines. Gorgeous walks from cottage and major attractions only a short drive away. Private, tranquil, peaceful and relaxing. Excellent facilities. Large wood-burning stove. Large private garden with a beck forming the boundary at the bottom of the garden. Wild birds and red squirrels just outside landscape window. Host very welcoming, helpful and charming. Very highly recommended. Can't wait for a return visit.

Lovely, cosy, cottage in an idyllic setting

  • 4 of 5

The cottage has everything a couple could want for a peaceful, relaxing holiday.

Comfortable seating with a log burner for chilly nights (but it also has radiators if you really needed them!).

A well equipped kitchen/dining area, good bath/shower room and lovely, cosy bedroom with very comfortable bed.

Everything clean and tidy on arrival and instructions sent beforehand were easy to follow with a few contact numbers in case you needed them. Wonderful scenery as you travel to the cottage and around the area.

On a fine, clear day a trip to Alston is a must, where you can also take a trip on the South Tynedale Steam Railway…stop at the café on the drive up to Alston for the most magnificent view.

The cottage has lots of information of places to visit, together with a very comprehensive guest guide book with suggestions for visits on rainy days.

The local Shepherds Inn at Langwathby has excellent food – but you need to book ahead for Sunday lunch.

Visit Lowther Castle to see how magnificent it is as it is being restored, even if you don’t pay to go into the garden you can see the castle and have morning coffee and cake at the café. After that it’s a short distance to visit Larch Cottage Nurseries and wander around the gardens and even buy some plants, before having a lovely, freshly cooked lunch upstairs on their Italian style balcony café.

As you can tell, we thoroughly enjoyed our week’s holiday!

The property was great, very cosy, quite charming and perfect for a quiet break!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at 4.30pm. The directions we received were easy to follow and the instructions on gaining entry were precise.

We intended to go walking but due to the freezing cold weather we didn't end up leaving the cottage. It was perfect though and we were happy with our lot.

The cottage was clean and tidy and very well equipped. The wood burner was a novelty and I had great fun keeping it burning. It let off some heat too! The bathroom was quite modern and the bedroom although quite cold at night was very cosy once we had settled in. Overall, we had a fantastic couple of days and I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Beck cottage to anybody looking for a relaxing stay in the countryside.

5 stars from us

Thank you

Rustige vakantie

  • 3 of 5

The cottages nestle in an area designated an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' the foothills of the North Pennines, home to some of the rarest plants and wildlife in Britain.
