About the property

A perfect holiday house with garden comfortably sleeping up to ten

This spacious two storey house comfortably sleeps up to ten guests over five bedrooms, two double rooms with double beds, one twin room, one large room sleeping four in single beds, and one with king size bedroom with en suite shower room/wc. On the first floor, off the generous landing, there is a large bathroom with bath and an over-bath shower attachment, with a separate toilet next door.

One of the more recent builds of the town, the house opens into a large hallway with easy access to all ground floor rooms including the garage. The new modern kitchen is fully fitted with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, double oven and hob, microwave, kettle, toaster and all the kitchen equipment you need to cater during your stay. From the kitchen and living areas French doors open up onto the garden, BBQ area, washing line and the wooden decking/terrace. There is a downstairs shower room and separate toilet.

The feature of this house, besides the location, is its large living/dining area. The living area has three large comfy sofas, a flat screen TV with free view channels, and for the winter a wood-burning stove. When you really need it, the house also has under-floor heating. There is a dining table and chairs for a more formal culinary setting.

This detached house has a large integral secure garage for the safe storage of your sporting equipment, and is especially user-friendly for winter gear or summer sports such as cycling or kayaking; in other words there is ample room to store, fettle or dry off. The long gravel driveway allows for off road parking for up to 3 cars and the large garden and terrace is complete with two outside tables and chairs to enjoy the spectacular mountain views and sunshine.

Best of all for the techno-inclined, the house has free Wi-Fi!

La Masion Bord au Rive was perfect for our boys trip - plenty of bedrooms, so we could have one each and only a few minutes walk to the centre of the Village where there are numerous restaurants to choose from.

Fantastic house

We stayed at the house in August 2014 as two families and had the time of our lives. The large open plan living areas gave us plenty of space to spread out and the outside areas with BBQ and table and chairs meant we spent most of our time outside. The house is well equipped and we had everything we needed for our stay. In fact on arrival we also found a table tennis table, boules and table football which kept us all entertained. The team who look after the house were friendly and helpful and the house clean and comfortable, we have already booked again for August 2015!

Of course not everything was bad, it is a large house and can hold 8 people comfortably. the WIFI was also OK. But there were many other negative things that spoiled our vacation.


1. HOT WATER! we were 8 people and every day after ski each of us had a desire for a hot bath or a shower to relax our muscles. But the hot water was gone after 3 showers!

we had to wait 4 long hours until the next 3 of us can take their shower. (there is no quick heater). and that only if you activate the heater manually in a secret switch, information that was not mentioned to us at the beginning, only after 3-4 days and many complaints.

in order to save the owner electricity bills, the automatic heater works only few ours at night. so if someone is taking a long shower in the morning, there will be totally cold water in the evening.

So if you are planning come for summer\winter sport activity, and you are more then 3, this is certainly not the place for you.

2. the host was very pedantic about our commitments, but very thrifty with her duties. (although she was nice and polite)

her duties:

a. when we arrived there was one bed linen missing. we arrived late so one of us slept with no linen. also the spare pillows had no linen, so we coudnt use them.

(No big deal, but wait to see what happen in the end)

b. as mentiond, every day half of us just gave up the shower or bath after ski.

c. when we wanted to sit in the garden there were only 4 chairs for 8 people, and the rules of the house did not allow us to move chairs from inside.

d. etc etc...


despite the house rules, in the end she was unfairly charging us a cleaning fee - because we didnt take out the linen out of the beds (nobody told us we needed to do it), and the dishwasher was not empty (how can we empty it if we turned it ON only half hour before leaving?) , and she said the house was not totally clean, (we were 2 people working like hell cleaning for 3 hours!!)

if you take the place, my advice is: Dont clean, leave your mess when you leave, because you will be charged anyway, so at least save your time.

there were other issues but I wrote the main things.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately, it is not always possible to please everyone all of the time. It is correct that during this renters visit they raised several problems with us. However, we are available by telephone and email every day and as soon as each issue was raised with us we dealt with it, as soon as we were made aware additional linen was required it was delivered within an hour, as soon as we were made aware one of the three showers was blocked a plumber was called and dealt with the problem the same morning, as soon as we were made aware there may be a problem with the hot water we investigated. The hot water is heated overnight so there is a finite amount - usually no problem for a group of 12, these renters were a group of 6, due to this we thought there could be a problem and a plumber attended and confirmed there was no problem. We then attended to explain how the system worked and to show the renter how to trip the switch to heat the tank during the day but apparently that did not help. I am not sure what else we could have done. There were/are 12 outdoor chairs and 2 tables in the garage for guest use. The house was not left as required on departure, our terms and conditions which are online, on the Booking Schedule and displayed in the house request guests to remove bed linen and empty bins, dishwasher and fridge before they leave. The house was not left in a state we deemed cleaned, and as a result we charged for cleaning. This is the only time during the whole of 2013 we have felt we must impose the charge so that may give an idea as to how the house was left. Since these renters stayed at the house, two new hot water tanks have been fitted and with groups of up to 12 hot sweaty cyclists having stayed throughout the summer without any issues with the hot water we think that is no longer an issue.

Le Bourg d'Oisans is situated in the heart of six valleys on the edge of the Parc National Les Ecrins, the largest of France's 6 National Parks. From the house you are a minute's walk from the town's amenities with its shops, bars and restaurants, banks and post office, children's playgrounds and a heated, open air swimming pool. From the house you will be able to appreciate beautiful views of the Alps. A variety of walks from family rambles to serious hikes start from the front door, and for cyclists the infamous 21 bends of Alpe d'Huez needs no introduction. The Megavalanche trail for downhill mountain bikers is a short drive away with the lifts open in July and August to the start at the Pic Blanc. The town has excellent access and links to the nearby ski resorts of Alpe d'Huez, Vaujany and Les Deux Alpes, and also to Grenoble which is your nearest airport and train station.
