About the property

We welcome you to visiting our new home in the South of France

Albatross Villa 'La Petite Maison'

Although from the outside the house appears to be very small you will find once you step over the threshold that you will feel somewhat like Alice in Wonderland as the house gets bigger once you are inside. Like a lot of the houses in the Center Ville the outside is often a bit of an illusion and you are almost always pleasantly supprised.

We have installed a Mitsubishi Air Conditioning /Heating System on each floor to add to your comfort throughout the changing seasons.

The Roof-Top Terrace designed by Swedish Architect, David Gölen is the perfect place to chill out in the shade of the specially designed UV Protection sail. If you prefer to sunbathe with a view over the rooftops of Marseillan Ville lay on loungers the raised deck area.

A Weber Gas BBQ has been installed to cook your evening meals and if you feel like Pizza there is a Pizza stone to try your culinary skills on.

In the kitchen there is a gas stove with an electric oven beneath.

We have w-ifi in the house from SFR

We welcome you to share the experience by visiting our new home in the South of France. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us .

Best Regards,

Anita & Janne

'Marseillan is like St Tropez before Bardot. Staggeringly pretty, one of the most unspoiled ports in France.'

Sunday Times, London

Can you imagine yourself taking breakfast whilst sat on the rooftop of a centuries old petite maison du village or better still enjoying a glass of wine at the end of a day that was filled with as much or little activities as you would like? …. Be it a Romantic Getaway for Two or a Break away from Routine for the family, whatever it is, we can help make it happen in our little house set in the heart of Marseillan Village. La Petite Maison sits in a maze of narrow streets amongst a mixture of restored and unrestored, back to back, mainly 3 storey, very old, terraced houses, many origionally dateing back to the 16th and 17th Century's. If you want character and authenticity then you will find it in an abundance.

About Anita Larsson

Janne is Swedish and met Anita in New Zealand while sailing around the world in his S/Y Albatross from 2002-2005. We enjoy travelling with our children Antonia(18) and Shaun(12). We have two house cats, Leon & Mitzi who live with us in our apartement in Helsingborg, Sweden and we also have a Typical Swedish Summer House sat in the middle of a forest that has been in Jannes family for 47 years .... this is also a holiday rental www.villaalbatross.com if you would like to have a look .. although we call it our summer house we tend to use it more in winter as it is close to a small ski field!

Anita Larsson purchased this house in 2012

Why Anita Larsson chose Cap d'Agde area

We came to Marseillan in March 2012 and fell in love with the town and the friendly locals, who despite our not being able to speak French made us very welcome ... Combined with the abundance of local Seafood & Wine we realised we had discovered a Real Treasure! Before going back home to Swedenwe found our ' La Petite Maison', signed on the dotted line and after a mountain of legal paperwork travelled back to Marseillan in August to renovate and refurbish our little gem not only to make our visits very comfortable but also anyone else who chooses to stay in our home...Sante!

What makes this house unique

We find it amazing to live within the old town being so close to everthing .... the shops, restaurants, vineyards, harbour, bakeries etc etc ... not to mention the beautiful beaches that are very close. There is something to suit all ages, be it taking a leisurely walk or bike riding throughout the town, windsurfing or kayaking in the 'Etang de Thau' , exploring the ' Canal du Midi', Eating Oysters fresh from their beds to Wine tasting in the many local vinyards ... these are just a few of the experiences we have enjoyed in 2012 ... not to mention the many parties held by the town in the Harbour throughout the summer months!

Charming, Quirky and Great Value

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 4 adults spent a 4 night stay and were very pleased we chose Albertross Villa in Marseillan. The property is just 15-20 mins drive from Beziers airport, as described and good value. Jan & Anita were very helpful with communication beforehand & Jan was also kind enough to show me the lovely luxury B&B property they have nearby that will be open from Summer 2016 & even signed a copy of his interesting travel journal 'Brave or Stupid' for us!

Plenty of sleeping options with comfortable beds and 3 social areas. We enjoyed the kitchen/diner space the most but had the evenings been warmer we would have spent more time on the nautical-themed sun terrace which is quite unique. The BBQ is a nice touch and we made use of that too. Free on street parking is available a couple of mins walk from the accommodation. Shops and supermarket etc. just a few minutes wander through lovely old streets.

Marseillan is in my opinion the most characterful, peaceful and charming of the small towns in the area - we did explore a few others including Meze, Sete & Portiragnes-Plage which are worth a look on a day trip. We also ate twice at the O'Soleil restaurant in Marseillan overlooking the boats & water - good food and 3 courses for around 23 euros each (excluding drinks).

We highly recommend staying at Albatross Villa - we certainly had a lovely time!

perfect "mid ville" location

  • 4 of 5

property thoughtfully equipped: beds and bedding good quality, kitchen very well outfitted. Third floor dining/kitchen are most pleasant and even in december, we enjoyed the roof top terrace. The sitting area is, as described, quite small but nicely furnished and cozy..rather like a salon on a boat. We are used to stairs (there are over 30 steps bottom to top of this house not counting the circular staircase to the roof) and were not unhappy with the workout. This would present a serious consideration for many and should not be understated. The owners are lovely, accommodating folks who were not on site in december but were most concerned and helpful with any questions via email. The little town of Marseillan is friendly, has nice shops, bakeries, etc. and is within a reasonable distance by car to other places of interest. There is no on site parking but we had no trouble finding spots 5 minutes away. Part of the charm after all, is strolling through those very old streets and imagining what sorts of lives others have lived there. We were very comfortable in "the little (vertical, town) house" and would stay there again.

Owner's Response: Dear Jean and Philip, it was lovely to hear that you had an enjoyable time in our little 'vertical' town house ..haha very aptly put. Although we didnt get to meet in person it was a pleasure talking with you via email.. and hope one day in the near future we may get to meet. Best Regards, Anita and Janne

Über den Dächern von Marseillan

  • 5 of 5

Danke Yanne!

Die Kommunikation und Abwicklung war sehr gut.

Es war ein toller Aufenthalt.

Albatross Villa ' La Petite Maison' in Marseillan France

'Marseillan is like St Tropez before Bardot. Staggeringly pretty, one of the most unspoiled ports in France.'

Sunday Times, London

Can you imagine yourself taking breakfast whilst sat on the rooftop of a centuries old petite maison du village or better still enjoying a glass of wine at the end of a day that was filled with as much or little activities as you would like? …. Be it a Romantic Getaway for Two or a Break away from Routine for the family, whatever it is, we can help make it happen in our little house set in the heart of Marseillan Village. La Petite Maison sits in a maze of narrow streets amongst a mixture of restored and unrestored, back to back, mainly 3 storey, very old, terraced houses, many originally dating back to the 16th and 17th Century's. If you want character and authenticity then you will find it in an abundance.

There are so many different routes to go by to get here but whatever way you choose, upon arrival rest assured, once you step over the threshold of our little house your holiday will begin. Marseillan lays claim to 300 days of sun each year, but regardless of the weather outside, be it Winter or Summer, Autumn or Spring you will realise this centuries old home was built to withstand the different temperatures the seasons can bring. Welcome, step into the hallway and push open the double French doors that open onto the ground floor Master bedroom with private en suite and a Luxurious double bed which may beckon you to lay on for just a ´few moments´. ... but wait just awhile as there is more to explore .. Go back into the small entrance hall and climb the centuries old spiral staircase that leads you up to the cosy living room with large bed settee that is perfect for snuggling up on while watching a dvd or listening to music ... or simply use the area as a space to accommodate younger members of the family were they can watch movies or play their computer games without disturbing anybody else. On hot summer evenings the small shuttered balcony with a view onto the sleepy little street is perfect for letting in the cool evening breeze. To the back of the room a set of French doors lead you into a smaller double bedroom. This is fitted out with bunk beds that have a lower bed size of 120cm (which can easily fit a couple in love) and a top bed of 90cm. The room also has its own en suite with shower facilities. Step back out of the room and climb the stairs again and you will find yourself in the open-plan living space at the heart of the house. There you will see a dining table for six alongside a shuttered window which lends beautifully to the character of the room and a fully fitted kitchen that has everything you should require. To welcome you into our home you will find tea, coffee and biscuits in the kitchen but set up on the dining table you will find a heartfelt welcome in the form of a bottle of wine, collect the tray that has been set up for this purpose and climb the final set of stairs that will lead you onto your very own eagles nest. Here you will have a birds eye view over terracotta tiles and age old chimneys stacked high across the rooftops of our ancient little town ..... open the bottle, pour the wine and toast your arrival in style ... slante!

The village of Marseillan is surrounded by vineyards and lapped by the waters of a lagoon brimming with oysters and sea bass ... If you have a passion for food and good wine then Marseillan is a veritable paradise you will find has a bounty of treasures just waiting for for you to discover. Just a few minutes walk from the house and you will come across the local shops that offer a delicious array of fresh meats, fish and vegetables and with a patisserie on almost every street corner you will have no problem buying your freshly baked croissants & bread each morning. There are also weekly markets which sell everything from fish and poultry to the delicious fruits, olives and fresh vegetables of the South of France ... and as far as wine is concerned... well, you are spoilt for choice, but choosing is an adventure in itself so with all this at your fingertips ´dining in´ should bring new experiences, but with over twenty local restaurants to choose from it will not be something you have to do unless you so wish. Wherever you choose to shop or eat, the aromatic smells of the wonderful food that surrounds you, will most definitely be a glorious assault to your senses and one which you are sure to enjoy.

With all this in mind, we trust you will have a wonderful time filled with happy and joyful days and hope that this will be your first of many holidays to come visiting the wonderful little town of Marseillan.

Access to Marseillan is within easy reach of FIVE airports served by low cost flights from the UK, and by rail link from UK stations to Agde, just 10 minutes from the village.

Notes:

  • While the house is perfect for a Romantic getaway for two, a fun place for two couples to share or a family with children of most ages, because of the stairs we would not recommend it as suitable for family’s with toddlers. The Rooftop terrace has a table with six chairs (plus 2 additional chairs). A sun bed, Large sun Umbrella(270cm), smaller table with sun umbrella and BBQ. High above the sleepy street it is a perfect setting for a wonderful relaxing evening away from the bustle of everyday life. While Smoking is not permitted inside the house so long as you dispose of your cigarettes responsibly we do not object to smoking on the terrace ....
