Lovely, Central & with Amazing View

Overview

Property

Updated: 02-Dec-2016
Bright and spacious right in the centre of Lisbon overlooking Rossio Square

This bright and modern apartment is a spacious (60m2) 1-bedroom property located right in the centre of Lisbon overlooking the Rossio square. It has been completely renovated and refurbished recently and enjoys lots of natural light.

A double sofa that converts into two beds in the living room means that up to 4 guests can stay here comfortably.

The living room has a truly marvelous view over central Lisbon, and includes a sofa-bed and other 3 sofas.

The kitchen is open to the living room and is fully equipped with all the modern facilities you need to cater and cook for yourself - washing machine, dish washer, gas oven and stove, microwave and fridge with freezer, as well as all the necessary cutlery and crockery.

The bedroom has a large double bed (140 cm wide), and external windows to let in the light and air. It has plenty of storage space and bedside tables with lamp.

There is a clean and modern bathroom with bathtub and a small window.

The apartment has a good temperature both during Winter and Summer. Nevertheless, in the wintertime the entire space is heated with two electric heaters, if needed. During Summer, the windows at each side of the apartment can be left open to keep the accommodation cool as the breeze passes through the entire property, and a fan is available.

Cable TV (100 channels), free high-speed Wi-Fi Internet (30 mbps), CD/DvD/Radio/MP3 player are all available and provided.

This apartment is located in the Pena district, very close to the central Rossio square, Baixa and Chiado area.

The street of the apartment has no cars and is a dead end, guaranteeing peaceful and relaxing time.

The main feature of Pena is that it is a plateau, from which two main slopes descend, facing Martin Moniz and Avenida da Liberdade. It begins at the north-east of Rossio and extends to Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, commonly known by Campo de Santana. The streets on the two slopes are twisting and irregular, leading to many beautiful alleys and side streets.

There are many small cafés and restaurants here, and it is just a short walk to the major tourist areas of Baixa, Rossio and the Praça do Comércio, with a lovely riverfront area.

This neighborhood is also very close to the famous Bairro Alto, a nightlife area, which can be reached after walking past Rossio or by taking the Elevador da Glória, the oldest funicular in Lisbon.

Sintra village is definitely worth a visit and very easy to reach as the train station with direct trains to Sintra (20 minutes) is just 200 mts away from the apartment.

Cascais village is also beautiful and has nice beaches. Really recommended. You can reach it in a fantastic train trip (25 mins) close to the sea. The train station (Cais do Sodré) to Cascais is just 1,5 kms away from the apartment.

There are many transport options nearby. The metro stations (different lines) are at 100 mts as well as buses, trams and trains. Most touristic and popular tram/bus routes depart from Rossio/Praça da Figueira Squares, which are 100 mts away from the apartment.

Come and Enjoy!

We enjoyed 15 days in Andre's apartment, having been welcomed by Ana who gave us some good restaurant recommendations and spent time to explain all, despite having to leave for Peru the following morning --- much appreciated. The flat is well equipped and a perfect size for a couple with pleasantly proportioned rooms and all facilities. The location could not be improved on ---- quiet, moments to the centre and views out of National Geographic. 2 convenience stores within 20 metres and a string of cheap eateries. Buses, trams, metro and taxis are within 5 minutes walk. I cannot imagine how our stay could have been improved. What luck for us that we were able to stay here. Thank you Ana for your help and Andre for your super fast communication.

Recommended are the museums Gulbenkian, the Bernardo collection, Arte Antiga, Azulejos. The market at Ribeira is excellent for fresh produce and superb fish. Cafe Brasiliera on Rua Garrett is a beautiful Belle Epoque interior with good coffee and a just a stroll away from the Ribiera market. The famous spit charcoal roasted chicken and grilled fish at BomJardin are to write home about. Panaderia Nacional on Praca Figuera has excellent custard tarts and an orange tart. If you like beer or caft beer then Duque Craftbeer has 9 local beers on tap and masses of bottled ones.

The view is worth the visit alone.

  • 5 of 5

Everything was as advertised. The location is very central, minutes from 2 subway stations. There is a weekend market in the Praca de Figueira with lots of sausage, beer, wines and other locally sourced food. Eat there or take home. There are lots of other stores, restaurants, nearby. The walk to either the barrio alto or the waterfront is short.

we stayed here for four days and loved every minutes. We walked everywhere and were able to eat out and purchase groceries right in our neighborhood. The view is exceptional and the hosts were wonderful. Highly recommended!

Comfortable, contemporary furnishings in modern centrally located apartment

  • 4 of 5

Overall impression was very positive. More than adequate storage in the bedroom & a very comfortable bed. The kitchen was unusually well stocked with provisions & cleaning products including those for the dishwasher & washing machine.

The view from the second floor window in the living room was across the local area including Rossio Square & Santa Justa elevadore. Very beautiful by day & at sunset.

Only negative issue was the less than pristine bathroom cleanliness & the temperamental shower which would only deliver hot water if the kitchen hot water tap was open!

Ideal location for exploration on foot or using local transport. A great city full of interest & surprises. We hope to make a second visit soon.

It begins at the north-east of Rossio and extends to Campo dos Mártires da Pátria, commonly known by Campo de Santana. The streets on the two slopes are twisting and irregular, leading to many beautiful alleys and side streets.

Being one of the oldest districts in Lisbon, one is overwhelmed by the diversity of its buildings, constructed in accordance with the successive types of architecture through centuries. Wrought iron balconies from the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries can be seen everywhere. In constant dialogue with the wrought iron are the glazed tiles of the façades - a style reportedly brought from Brazil after the 16th century.

Pena is a quiet neighbourhood where one can find the Italian and German embassies, the birthplace of Amália Rodrigues and the place where Luis de Camões is supposed to have lived his last days (Calçada de Santana, nº 139)

It is very close to the famous Bairro Alto, a nightlife area, which can be reached after walking down Rossio or by taking the Elevador do Lavra, the oldest funicular in Lisbon. This 120 year old elevator goes every 15 minutes down to Rua das Portas de Santo Antão, the location of many excellent fish restaurants as recommended by many city guides.
