About Jennifer and Willie Mackey

William & Jennifer have been married for 30 years, we have three grown up sons. We have lived in Donegal all our lives, indeed our families can be recorded back to 18th century in this region - I guess we are local! Willie took early retirement in 2010 having worked in Telecommunications and Jennifer is now a full time housewife having worked as a Child Support Worker. We now have a small working farm on which we breed Connemara ponies and some Aberdeen Angus cattle.

Jennifer and Willie Mackey purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Jennifer and Willie Mackey chose County Donegal

In March of 2012 we acquired a little Cottage down the road from where we live. The Cottage was in good condition and so after only some minor alteration and redecoration “Wild Rose Cottage' came into being. It is a very cosy Cottage, clean warm and with everything necessary to make your holiday enjoyable. It stands on its own half acre site, peaceful and quite even though it is only a 5min walk into the local village of Dunkineely.

What makes this cottage unique

Wild Rose Cottage is a 100 year old traditional stone cottage which has been upgraded over the years to a comfortable / cosy home while still retaining some of its old style. Whether you wish you chill out in the garden with a glass of wine or relax in front of the open fire you will not be disappointed. There is a Satellite TV and a DVD player if you need it and also WiFi Internet to catch up with friends and family back home. The cottage is ideally located to access many of our beautiful beaches , breathtaking mountains and other scenic drives or if you prefer to browse in the many craft shops in the nearby towns and villages. We have many award winning Restaurants to choose from in the area as well as many traditional Irish Pubs where you can join the locals in a nights music and craic. For the sports enthusiast there is Golf, Fishing, Pony Riding, Scuba Diving and Mountain Walking just to mention a few .

BEST COTTAGE IN ALL OF DONEGAL!

  • 5 of 5

I want to extend my deepest appreciation to the owners Willie and Jennifer. They are the most hospitable and kindest people you will ever meet. The cottage was perfect for my family and I for the 7 night stay. The location in the country was stunning, hearing the birds and the surrounding animals each day was so peaceful. It is easy walking distance to the local pubs and located perfectly between the towns of Donegal and Killybegs. The people of Dunkineely are so welcoming and it was very difficult for us to leave. The cottage handled 6 people very well, with just one bathroom. Willie and Jennifer went out of their way to make us feel at home, thank you so much and we will definitely be back!

A peaceful and relaxing weekend in Donegal

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is very clean and has everything you need. One can notice that the landlords put a lot of love in it and want to make the stay for their guest as comfortable as possible.

Cozy cottage in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a quiet place where I could spend a relaxing few days. And it turns out: I chose correctly! The cottage is very comfortable and provides everything one could ever need. I would recommend the Wild Rose Cottage to everyone that would like to spend time in a very quiet and beautiful area to do some hiking, sightseeing or just do nothing.

A great place to stay. Very comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

This property met all of our needs. It was very clean. Will and Jennifer met us at the home and explained in detail everything we needed to know. They are a very warm and welcoming couple who made sure that our stay was comfortable. The property was located in the are we wanted to explore. Close to great restraints and sights we wanted to experience. A great selection for us.

Week in Donegal

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough about our week in Donegal, Wild Rose Cottage and Willie and Jennifer Mackey. The Cottage is comfortable, warm and we felt at home. We visited several areas in SW Donegal, an area we had not seen, and loved every minute. Some of the greatest coastal scenery one could desire. And some of the finest hand woven products by local artisans! Thank you Willie and Jennifer.

WONDERFUL LOCATION IN DONEGAL

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful time staying at the Wild Rose Cottage. It was right in the middle of Killybegs and Donegal Town, which was convenient for shopping, etc. Everything we needed, was there at the cottage. Our only problem was getting wifi for a few days. Also, the television could be updated, since the screen is very small.

Other than that, we were very pleased. Willie and Jennifer were on holiday, so we didn't get to meet them (they were in New York; we came from New York!). They did, however, have their friend Linda oversee everything, while we were there. Linda was wonderful and very helpful with the wifi, etc. Thank you, Linda!!! (and daughters!).

I would highly recommend this cottage, to stay in and explore nearby areas.. Nancy & Richard Baumann, Buffalo, NY, USA
