In what must be one of the finest locations in Funchal, this two-bedroom/two-bathroom apartment offers great value accommodation for those who love water! The first floor apartment directly overlooks the large pool and private gardens, beyond which there is nothing but ocean – only 50 metres from a spacious balcony – just far enough to be safe if a large wave comes in! Seriously this is a spectacular location so near to the sea – the therapeutic sound of the waves is with you all the time.

You will probably not spend a lot of time in the apartment, preferring instead the balcony (one of the largest in the complex) with sun-loungers, table and chairs, or by the pool, or wandering along the pebble beach. Nevertheless if you do spend time “indoors” you will find everything you want, right through to a dishwasher.

From the apartment you can head up in the lift to the main avenue, with cafés and shops nearby, plus a modern shopping centre with a large supermarket less than ten minutes’ walk away. If you stay at sea level and head towards Funchal you go through the caves and tunnels to Doco de Cavacas – a memorable journey, with the ocean crashing into the caves. In the opposite direction you can walk along the black-sand beach at Praia Formosa (with four beach bars all serving food) to a walkway that eventually brings you out in the tiny fishing village of Camera do Lobos). If you don’t want to go anywhere the well-respected local fish restaurant “By the Sea” is adjacent to the complex as is the “Regency Yacht Bar” with wooden decking overlooking the beach.

NOTE: In September 2015 the cable connection to this apartment was upgraded to super-fast 100Mbps (sufficient for streaming live TV on laptops and tablets/iPads) and the number of cable channels increased to 129.

The apartment is adjacent to the fascinating 'Doco de Cavacas' caves and tunnels complex, where the ocean crashes into the narrow caves which can be observed from viewpoints in the tunnels. In the other direction an elevated walkway winds along the seafront all the way to the quaint old fishing village of Camara do Lobos - famous for featuring in paintings by Winston Churchill.

Perfectly adequate,in need of some updating

The property is as described and apart from a clothes dryer past its sell by date,(unusable)everything went fine!

Unfortunately it is two twin rooms and the beds can't be put together for us more romantic types!!!

The mattresses are past their best too and need replacing. I couldn't figure out the bedding as the pillow slips were too small for the pillows!

The washing machine is a great boon and we used it plenty,the clothes dryer meant we could wash and dry clothes in a day,marvellous!

More teaspoons are needed and small chopping boards maybe but that's it, we enjoyed our stay and would use the property again!

In fact my other half said its the best holiday she's ever had : )

Great location (if you have transport)

We loved the apartment with its massive balcony overlooking the pool and the sea. The fixtures and fittings are a little dated but everything functioned as it should during our stay and as we spent most of our time out and about exploring the island such things were of little importance to us. Our only 'complaint' would be that the towels and bed linen were old and need changing. Also, the apartment did not get serviced very frequently - once a week only.

There's a good selection of bars/restaurants within walking distance but I would recommend having your own transport as all the shops and everything else is very much uphill.

Overall we really enjoyed our two weeks.

Third time we have stayed and love the place

The apartment is very spacious with everything we needed for a brilliant holiday. Balcony enormous with great views of the pool, sea and cliffs. Airport bus direct to the door. Bus service from road above apartment good. Can walk easily to the beach and nice walk along the coast to Camara de Lobos. Pool great and sea just over the wall. Tempted not to tell how good it is so that we can have it for ourselves. Great place to stay.

Wonderful Apartment and view

Only downside is the supermarket is about a 25 minute walk away all uphill, so if you have trouble getting around I would not recommend this apartment.

Owner's Response: The nearest supermarket closed unexpectedly a few weeks ago. Another plans to take its place soon. Having said that the walk through the caves is a different way to get to a supermarket! If you are not hiring a car probably best to do a "heavy" shop with water etc and get a taxi back (less than five minutes and less than 10 Euros)

Spacious apartment with lovely views

Large apartment with a great balcony and lovely views. As other reviews have commented furniture is very dated but functional, we found the apartment clean and tidy. Large main bedroom, second one small with no natural light, a consideration if a group of friends are sharing. We found the complex to have a chilled relaxed vibe and enjoyed the pool/bar area. Although we knew the location wasn't central we found lack of facilities nearby to be a pain. The nearest supermarket is at the Forum shopping centre, (tiny one on main road which is still a trek) our advise is to stock up there and get a taxi back down. There is no public transport at the site, taxis/local buses are at the Forum. There are a number of beach bars locally and although its a pleasant walk either way along the promenade this may be a struggle for less able/those with small children. Due to this apartments location I therefore would only recommend if you have your own transport.

Owner's Response: The quickest way to the nearest supermarket is along the beach and through the tunnels/caves -15 minutes should do it. A taxi is a good idea when you stock up on heavy items.

Great balcony with superb views

this apartment was great for 4 women from one family as it had single beds. So near the sea and a lovely pool just about warm enough to swim in was great.

The furniture was a bit tired but guess this is reflected in the very reasonable price and having a washing machine and dishwasher were a bonus.

Only real problem was the shower curtain which did not stay in the shower and so the bathroom floor flooded every time

All communication with the owner was great and we were met at the airport by the taxi they organised and at the appartment on arrival. Very welcoming
