In what must be one of the finest locations in Funchal, this two-bedroom/two-bathroom apartment offers great value accommodation for those who love water! The first floor apartment directly overlooks the large pool and private gardens, beyond which there is nothing but ocean – only 50 metres from a spacious balcony – just far enough to be safe if a large wave comes in! Seriously this is a spectacular location so near to the sea – the therapeutic sound of the waves is with you all the time.

You will probably not spend a lot of time in the apartment, preferring instead the balcony (one of the largest in the complex) with sun-loungers, table and chairs, or by the pool, or wandering along the pebble beach. Nevertheless if you do spend time “indoors” you will find everything you want, right through to a dishwasher.

From the apartment you can head up in the lift to the main avenue, with cafés and shops nearby, plus a modern shopping centre with a large supermarket less than ten minutes’ walk away. If you stay at sea level and head towards Funchal you go through the caves and tunnels to Doco de Cavacas – a memorable journey, with the ocean crashing into the caves. In the opposite direction you can walk along the black-sand beach at Praia Formosa (with four beach bars all serving food) to a walkway that eventually brings you out in the tiny fishing village of Camera do Lobos). If you don’t want to go anywhere the well-respected local fish restaurant “By the Sea” is adjacent to the complex as is the “Regency Yacht Bar” with wooden decking overlooking the beach.

NOTE: In September 2015 the cable connection to this apartment was upgraded to super-fast 100Mbps (sufficient for streaming live TV on laptops and tablets/iPads) and the number of cable channels increased to 129.

Read the other reviews and can agree totally with a number of them that describe this as being as near to a beach holiday that you can find a Madeira. Spacious and functional. Recommended.

Highly recommended

I would reiterate what previous reviewers have said in that the balcony is huge, overlooking the swimming pool and the sea. Perfect to help one relax. The location is superb and within easy reach of various other parts of the island. If you don't have a car, you can walk along the sea front in both directions and take the local bus. The manager was helpful, replied to our emails promptly, and allowed us to leave our bags in the apartment as we had a late flight. Directions were accurate and helpful. It seems too that there is a coach just outside the hotel going to the airport, although we never used it. We didn't spend a lot of time indoors but there was a television, washing machine, dishwasher, all in good working order. The rooms were spacious. We'd like to go back and would recommend this apartment.

Wonderful location

We received prompt and clear instructions for arrival. The apartment is exactly as described: comfortably furnished with a large south-facing balcony overlooking lovely gardens, swimming pool and the ocean. The closest supermarket is a ten-minute walk away - leave via the pool gate, turn left, follow the narrow path along the beach, through the tunnel then climb the steps, at the top of which is the bus-stop for the no. 2 service to Funchal (every half hour) and the yellow HOHO tourist bus. Opposite the bus-stop are a couple of restaurants and the small shopping mall with supermarket. Following the beach path in the other direction (towards Camara de Lobos) are a few beach-front bars/restaurants, we liked Barra Azul.

Incredible value

The apartment is in need of a little updating but was perfectly clean and functional - everything described in the ad was correct. If the owner renovated this to 5-star quality then they could charge twice the price - but from our point of view it remains incredible value - this was our second summer visit and for the three of us it is so cheap. And of course we spend all our time on the huge balcony or on the beach. Some of the cheap plastic on the balcony - particularly the mattresses for the sun loungers are sun-damaged and could do with renewing.

You are right - the expense of refurbishing the apartment would mean that we would have to double the price - in the meantime it remains some of the best value accommodation in the area - I met a French family a few days ago who could just not believe how huge it was! The sun-lounger mattresses have been replaced with new ones today.

The outdoor life!

We didn't spend much time in the apartment, which is fine and correctly described in the advert. Instead we spent all our time on the balcony or walking on the beach, occasionally going as far as Camera dos Lobo. We were blessed with good weather and ended up perfectly relaxed! Highly recommended. Manager very helpful with a very late arrival.
