The Old Cider Press is the middle cottage of a Grade II listed barn conversion dating back over 300 years. Cosy and welcoming, nestling in the breathtakingly beautiful village of Stanton (AONB). Be transported back hundreds of years and shed the stresses of daily life in this enchanting base for a relaxing break.

The cottage has many interesting features, with beams and oak floors throughout there is much to make you feel welcome. On the ground floor we have two double bedrooms in which we have quality furnishings and Dorma bedding, both have King size beds. The bathroom is also on the ground floor and has a newly fitted thermostatic shower which is over the bath - we have constant hot water and good pressure. We provide Egyptian cotton towels for the use of our guests.

On the first floor we have a cosy living room, with free BT Vision (On Demand, catch up BBC iplayer and ITV net player), we have a DVD player with a wide selection of DVDs, books and games. We also have free WIFI (internet access). The dining area has seating for four people and we have quality crockery and Villeroy & Boch cutlery. The kitchen is equipped to a high standard.

There is a spiral staircase up to a mezanine floor (galleried area) which has a comfy armchair if anyone should feel the need for some solitude:)

We have a patio area in the cottage garden which is a peaceful and tranquil retreat, here you can listen to the church bells ring, horses trotting by, sheep in the nearby fields, add to this the beautiful birdsong, and it is easy to understand how the charm of this beautiful village envelopes you, eases the mind and lays claim to your heart.

Simply the best!

Absolutely spectacular!!! My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights on a 3-week trip to the UK for our 30th wedding anniversary. It was, without a doubt, our very favorite place out of all the places we stayed on this trip - I did NOT want to leave! Everything about it was so inviting and appealing - from the yummy fresh baked bread, cake and wine waiting for us when we arrived, to the charming and lovely decor, to the attention to detail in every room (loved the "Old Country Roses" china - I collect vintage and antique English tea cups), to the quaint and gorgeous surrounding countryside. We could go on and on and on about this place! Loved watching the horses go clip-clopping by right outside our bedroom window from time to time. It was so incredibly cozy you just wanted to curl up on the couch or in one of the beds with a good book and stay there forever. Honestly, your cottage is second to none - truly outstanding. Thank you ever so much for your hospitality, all the wonderful information you provided about the area, for creating such a stunning home, and for helping to make our brief stay in the Cotswolds one of the most memorable experiences of our 30 years together. Wow. Just wow. We will recommend it to any and all our friends and family who would enjoy staying in an English cottage. We hope we can come back someday soon. Thank you so, so much!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this truly amazing review (I keep reading it:) - we work really hard to make staying at The Old Cider Press as good as it can be and are always looking for more ways to make it a real "experience". You have picked up on all the aspects we have worked really hard on and it is so heart warming to get a review like this. I have passed it on to our lovely Louise and I know she will be as delighted as I am. She works extremely hard and we know we are fortunate to have her "on board". We hope you do come and stay with us again some time, and a recommendation to your friends and family is praise indeed. It is always a particular pleasure for us to welcome our guests from America. A big, big thank you. Ann :)

Wonderful, cozy cottage in the heart of an exceptionally beautiful Cotswold village.

  • 5 of 5

We were lucky enough to call The Old Cider Press our home for an extended stay, and found Stanton to be so well positioned that within minutes in any direction there was an adventure awaiting us ! Everything one could possibly want is only minutes away –fine & casual dining, a full spectrum of shopping, walking & riding trails, historic sites and charming towns & villages ! The Old Cider Press was our base for numerous side trips, but was also a comfortable, cozy space to gather and entertain family & friends. We would wholeheartedly recommend The Old Cider Press to any one, for any occasion ! M & S Ackerman, USA.

The cottage is indeed a lovely little retreat from the world outside (whatever the weather!!!) I know you explored much of the area and are planning a return trip next year - we would be delighted to have you stay - what greater compliment could we receive. Thank you for leaving the cottage so well cared for and taking the time to write this amazing review. You have been a delight to deal with from start to finish.

Beautiful, character property

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is absolutely as advertised and we have rarely stayed anywhere with as much character.

Very comfortable and a quiet location, hidden away.

Quality furniture and fittings.

A hairdryer would have been appreciated but, really, there is very little to complain about.

Perfect thatched roof cottage of my dreams!

  • 5 of 5

This was just the perfect dream setting for my engagement to my girlfriend. Beautiful thatched roof cottage, with high quality furnishings within. This was more like a home than a rental property and the love that was poured in to it showed in every part. My "fiance" absolutely loved it and we couldn't have wished for a better setting. Thank you Ann

Lovely cottage, very cosy and well equipped in a beautiful location.

  • 5 of 5

We had a brilliant weekend for a friend's birthday. The cottage had everything we needed, was lovely and warm and cosy and felt really homely. We did arrive to find that the cleaner had not been in after the previous guests but one phone call later it was very quickly resolved and she was so apologetic - these things happen and the important thing is how it is resolved and 10 out of 10 to how this was resolved, thank you. We really had a fantastic weekend, it was a most beautiful village and we ate twice at The Mount which was excellent, glad we booked as very busy. Would definitely recommend the Cider Press to others and would stay there again ourselves, lovely :) :) :)

Owner's Response: Well thank you for this excellent review, as you say - this is life and things do happen. I know our housekeeper had an emergency that day and takes looking after the cottage and our guests very seriously. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay and that you would recommend us to others - what better praise could we hope for. You have been a delight to deal with and thank you once again for being so understanding. We look forward to having you stay with us again.

Stanton is probably one of the prettiest and most idyllic villages in the whole of the Cotswolds (AONB). Little changed in 300 years it nestles beneath the slopes of Shenbarrow Hill. It has a very pleasing long main street with several delightful corners where the ancient houses are built in typical Cotswolds style with steeply pitched gables, mullioned windows and glowing honey coloured limestone walls.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/uk/southernengland/11400492/Cotswolds-pub-walks.html

The village boasts two magnificent manor houses as well as a restored medieval cross and a church dating back to the Norman period.

There are numerous lovely walks including the famous Cotswold Way – which traverses for 100 miles between Chipping Campden and Bath goes through Stanton. We also have a cricket ground where the local villages compete regularly throughout the summer.

The Mount Inn pub/restaurant stands on a hill at the top of the village with spectacular views across the Vale of Evesham towards the Malvern Hills & even the Black Welsh mountains beyond. On a summer's evening it is the most perfect spot to watch the sunset & enjoy a pint of Donnington Brewery's finest ale.

The Guild House in Stanton runs many courses and 'quiet days' - well worth a visit.

Steam Train

Ever wanted to drive a steam engine? Hire the train, have dinner – take a read – lots of trips to go on – the train station is a 10 minute drive from Stanton.
