Clapham Common is perfect for visitors wanting the real experience of London living in one of the city's "villages" along with the buzz of urban life and the convenience of shops, restaurants, buses at the end of the road, a weekly Saturday farmers market, cafes, movie theater, artisan burger restaurant, ice-cream parlour, independent book store, gyms, swimming pool and a huge park (Clapham Common).
Super-friendly area where you can see and feel how real Londoners live - and get to the main tourist sites with trains a couple of minutes from your front door. Or take a red double decker bus and ride into the centre with views on the way!

Wonderful place!
Our family of 4 adults (kids aged 18 and 21) really enjoyed staying here. The owner, Susan, was always attentive to our needs; the property was clean and for an American family visiting London for the first time, we felt like we were in a safe place; and being close the the Underground was super convenient- only about 20 minutes and 1 or 2 stops from almost anywhere. The grocery store was super close, and we had almost everything we needed at our fingertips. I would highly recommend this home for families and people who want to be immersed in London culture.

Wonderful Home!
My family (2 children and 3 adults) recently spent 6 nights in Susan's beautiful home and had a wonderful experience. The house is gorgeous and exactly as described, and is in a great location with easy access to shops, restaurants, grocery stores, and public transport. Susan is a very thoughtful host that was easy to communicate with, and the check-in process was easy. We will definitely try to book Susan's home again if/when we visit London again!

Host profile image
I'm a cook, writer, film-maker, website designer, mother and entrepreneur who loves living in Clapham for its urban villagey feel, big green spaces, cafes and restaurants, farmers market and easy walk to Tube, train and bus stops to get everywhere all over London. My family is half-American, half-British, so we travel often to the US and love welcoming guests from all around the world. My sons are currently studying at colleges in the UK, so that gives me some freedom to travel and work overseas, most recently in California. I grew up in the South West of England with beautiful beaches and open spaces, so I love to get out in the countryside. I also love all the amazing culture of London, especially the museums and art galleries. And I love cycling through all the parks, taking trains and buses, and not having to drive.

Why they chose this property

I fell love with this house because it was so close to everything my kids and I needed eg public transport, shops, park, cinema, cafes, restaurants (pizza, burgers, also fancy dining), doctor's surgery, post office, ice cream parlour, etc.
What made my heart sing was all the light inside the house and the lovely wooden floors and staircase built by the previous owner who was a master carpenter.
I also loved that the house has three floors and lots of places to have privacy even when other people are here.
I picked the area to have a big green park nearby for running, and also a sports centre on the next corner with two swimming pools, a full gym and exercise classes. I love being able to get into the centre of London by Tube in 20 mins, and I also love that the area is a real neighbourhood, not touristy, so it's like a village.

What makes this property unique

So close to the action, shops and transport of the High St but tucked away on a quiet side street so you can't tell how close you are. Friendly people and a real London experience -- my next door neighbours and I even have vegetables growing in the flower beds opposite my house.
The house has three floors with three large bedrooms -- no tiny box rooms pretending to be bedrooms -- and several living areas including den, office and open plan reception room, so everyone always has privacy with a feeling of space and light.
The house is filled with original art and bright colours so it's always a cheerful place to be -- a great refuge after a day of hard sight-seeing or just a lovely place to chill out.
