About the property

Large Self Catering Accommodation in the Historical Village of Dunkeld

A spacious well appointed self catering apartment with five bedrooms, fully fitted kitchen, dining room and external court yard, located in the heart of Dunkeld.

Dating back to the 1840s, 14 Bridge Street was designed by Alexander Robertson and is a beautiful old stone building with a westerly aspect set over 4 floors.

Just a minutes walk will find you on the Telford Bridge overlooking the River Tay - a world renowned salmon river attracting fly fishermen from all over the world.

The beautifully furnished accommodation is on the first and second floors of the building and has its own entrance on Brae Street. There are five bedrooms - two doubles and three twins. The apartment can be opened up fully to accommodate ten people plus a baby, or two of the upstairs bedrooms can be closed off leaving accommodation for 6. Dogs are welcome and there are many wonderful walks for them in the area; however, we do ask that they are kept in the large entrance hallway on the ground floor.

The ancient town of Dunkeld on the River Tay, is one of Perthshire's gems. It is nestling beneath thickly-wooded hills and at its heart lies the historic Dunkeld Cathedral. Home to many fabulous events through the year, such as the Niel Gow and Perthshire Amber Festivals, along with the rich offerings of Birnam Arts and of course Dunkeld Santa Day for our early December visitors.

Dunkeld was proclaimed the first ecclesiastical capital of Scotland by first king, Kenneth MacAlpin. Many of the surrounding 17th century buildings have been beautifully restored giving an air of timeless tranquillity.

The area is a paradise for walkers. The National Trust for Scotland looks after the splendid woodland area of The Hermitage, home to one of the tallest trees in Britain. The walk to the Scottish Wildlife Trust's centre at Loch of the Lowes, home to breeding ospreys, is wonderful at any time of the year.

There are opportunities for cycling, hill walking, fishing, canoeing, kayak, rock climbing and for the more adventurous a choice of Outdoor Activities.

Some of the best Quad Biking in Scotland can be booked in the Scottish Quads office just below the apartment. Have a look at www.scottishquads.co.uk

In Birnam, just a short walk over the Telford Bridge is the Beatrix Potter Exhibition. Beatrix Potter spent many of her holidays in the Dunkeld area and it was while she was here that she wrote her first ever story - The tale of Peter Rabbit.

Dunkeld Cathedral hosts many weddings through the year and 14 Bridge Street is the perfect place for the family of Bride or Groom to stay in the run up to, or days after the celebration. We have many venues locally to host any size of reception and are happy to recommend catering options.

Perthshire is renowned for adventure activities - from Quad Biking to Bungee Jumping, we can help point you in the right direction. The Scottish Quads office is located below the apartment and offer a 10% discount on all of its activities to residents of 14 Bridge Street.

There are many excellent eating establishments in the village - from bakeries to Bistros and an Indian Restaurant. Alternatively if you feel like eating at home with minimal effort, the Delicatessen across the road stocks wonderful produce from Scotland and further afield. We can also offer Freezer filling from Strathbraans larder.

About Fiona

Dunkeld is an extraordinary place to live. My husband and I have been lucky enough to bring our three daughters up here whilst working in and around the village.

Fiona purchased this apartment in 2012

Why Fiona chose Perthshire

One of the things I really love is that Dunkeld is a vibrant, busy place, with lots of people making their livings there, but it also manages to be an incredibly welcoming place for visitors. Wonderful volunteers are there to welcome you in the cathedral and in the summer at the art exhibition.

My Great Great Great Grandfather was Sir John Everett Millais, who painted 20 of his 25 most famous landscapes around Dunkeld, whilst staying at Rumbling Bridge Cottage on the way up Strathbraan, only three miles away. He is probably most famous for his painting of my Great Grandfather (his Grandson) Bubbles which was used for the iconic Pears Soap Advertisement.

What makes this apartment unique

The sleeper from London is my favourite way to come home to Dunkeld. Even if you are coming by day train, it is only a ten minute walk into the centre if Dunkeld.

There are good bus connections up to Pitlochry and further north.

For more local exploration then a lot can be seen on foot, but a car would obviously be helpful for older and very young visitors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Plenty of space for our family group of three generations. House provided for all our needs. Great location. Fiona - thank you for your warm welcome.

Beautiful home from home

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful, period home with lots of space. It heated up very quickly and was large enough for all our friends and family to visit us. It is situated in the heart of Dunkeld and we were very spoiled having all the local shops so close to us. We loved it and hope to return again. Thank you Fiona for ensuring our holiday was well catered for - it made our holiday perfect.

large apartment in beautiful Dunkeld

  • 5 of 5

A family party of 10, a baby and a dog, we filled the house over Christmas. There was room for all and, though initially chilly, the house warmed up nicely and we had a very comfortable stay. Doggie space is in a downstairs entrance hallway, great for muddy boots too. There is also a small patio area down external stairs from the kitchen. There is superb walking country all around Dunkeld and interesting local shopping with good access to Perth, Stirling and the surrounding area. The owner or her rep were available to sort out any problems. Thank you for an excellent Christmas.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. I am delighted that you had a good time in Dunkeld celebrating your friend's wedding. You are right, there are so many fun places to eat and drink in the village - we are particularly excited about the new ownership of Howies Bistro which is getting excellent reviews. I hope to be able to welcome you back to Bridge Street again in the future. Best Wishes Fiona

Large and central to Dunkeld, great for groups of friends

  • 5 of 5

Group of 6 adults, fabulously big place to stay, we loved it, hard to choose a room! Has an extra area for kids/teenagers to do their own thing upstairs with tv. A second big fridge was great and extra things like loo rolls and tea bags were appreciated. Hadn't realised it was so central so everything on foot, lovely handmade gifts in the Camphill shop across the road, also Coop for food. Saw wild deer in the field across the Hilton hotel drive. Fiona was very friendly and I was able to stay an extra night when the others had left which was very much appreciated. Sadly needed heating on in June but that's our weather for you; sun came into living room in the evening. We hope to return in 2017.

Owner's Response: I am so sorry, I missed responding to your lovely review when you left it in the summer. I am so glad that you had a good time with your family in Dunkeld. I am always happy to accommodate late check outs or early check ins if I do not have back to back bookings, so I am glad that this helped you. We look forward to seeing you back in the future. Fiona

Clean, warm, comfortable with everything you need for a self catering stay!

  • 5 of 5

This property is fantastic for a large family or friends gathering! Large bedrooms, plenty space in the kitchen, living room and dining room for big groups. The courtyard is lovely and the downstairs boot room perfect for those enjoying the outdoors! We loved the wallpaper!!

The flat is well stocked, with lots of big pots, plenty crockery, and basics like salt, sugar, bin bags included. There's only one standing shower, but a massive bath in the downstairs bathroom which would be great for families or a soak after exploring the area!

Dunkeld is a fantastic location for a short break or as a base for a longer stay. Parking is a little tricky as the village is busy at the weekend but it's only a short walk from larger car parks. There's a co-op right across the road for anything you've forgotten!

We loved our stay, were surprised at how big the flat was and are already planning our next trip! Fiona was quick to reply to our messages and helped make our stay trouble free! Highly recommended!

Owner's Response: I am delighted that you had such a lovely time in Dunkeld. Thank you very much for the great review! The shower is an issue which we are very aware of - we would dearly love to put an extra bathroom in to the accommodation and are currently looking at how to do it without compromising the rest of the accommodation. The wallpaper was inherited and is definitely an acquired taste! One thing is for sure - you are unlikely to see it anywhere else! We really look forward to welcoming you back again in the future. Best Wishes Fiona

14 Bridge street is right in the heart of the village of Dunkeld. There is a lovely children’s park just a couple of minutes walk away by the River Tay - a beautiful spot to relax with a cup of coffee and watch the children playing or feeding the very friendly ducks. Weekly Membership can be bought to the Dunkeld House spa and leisure centre where there is an excellent swimming pool. There are tennis courts a five minute walk away which can be paid for via an honesty box on the gate. There are endless walks suitable for those pushing buggies, or just preferring a flatter amble and of course we are surrounded by iconic mountains such as Schiehallion for the more intrepid. Massage and beauty therapy can be arranged very easily. The World Renowned Dunkeld Smoked Salmon is a tempting 2 minute walk away and a delicious bottle of wine to accompany your purchases can be found across the road at the Scottish Deli - who will also provide a fantastic selection of cheeses and other goodies.
