The ideal home from home to explore this beautiful island. 2 bedrooms + bedsit

Complimentary three-course lunch with wine with every booking. Casa Margarida is conveniently located - set back from the village road to Arco da Calheta, above two short flights of steps, with gardens and a superb sea view. The stone-clad house ensures a comfortable temperature throughout the year. The pool is in a sunny position beside the house with shower accessible from the poolside. The pool has solar heating enabling it to reach a up to 30 degrees C in the Summer. Temperatures remain high throughout the Autumn and are usually between 19 and 22 degrees in the Winter. The 40' flat-screen HD TV, receives over 100 channels including news, films, football, music and documentaries in English, and other European languages. The traditional Portuguese tiled kitchen and breakfast bar is separate from the sitting-room.

The main bedroom upstairs a balcony overlooking the sea and the village. The en-suite shower room has a large walk-in power shower, and the bedroom dressing area has two additional washbasins. The second bedroom upstairs has twin beds which can be made up as a double, en-suite with bath/shower, and the balcony with sea view. On the ground floor, the bed sitting room has a single bed and a bed settee and en-suite shower room.

There is free broadband WiFi throughout the property. There is off-road private parking.

We are sorry that we are not able to accept bookings for children under the age of 8 years due to safety issues relating to the swimming pool and stairways..

Fantastic House and enjoyed the experience of having wonderful views.

Everything was lovely from a fantastic welcome, wonderful views even at night sitting on the balcony looking out to sea to sitting out in the early evening in the dying sun.

The stairs were very managable as long as you are a fit person, even at a grand age of 86 years managed it daily!!!

Sorry our week came to an end to quickly.

Thanks again to Philip and the wonderful memories that we shall cherrish.

Lovely Villa

Lovely villa. Very comfortable, great pool, great views, quiet area. Greeting was lovely with basic food/drink items provided much appreciated. Limited eating places without using car, although those within easy reach were very good.

Superb Villa in a quiet location

The property was very homely, modern & clean. It is within 3 minutes walk of the local village with amenities, & within a 3 minute drive down the hill to the sea.

The villa was all it was advertised to be & very comfortable. It is South facing overlooking the sea, so the sun is around most of the day from about 10am

well presented holiday home

Excellent spacious accommodation.very well situated for touring the island. This was our 8th visit to the island and our favourite area is Arco de Calheta. Weather not as good as on previous visits to the island so appreciated heating in evenings. Good to have Peter on hand who gave an excellent and prompt service. Really appreciated food provided for us as we had a late arrival. Would love to come back to the villa another time if possible. Thank you very much.

Lovely villa with fabulous views

We thoroughly enjoyed the villa, location, pool and nearby Calheta Beach. We swam everyday in the sea and most days in the pool. Did some lovely walks and had some great meals. Would recommend New Era down by the Marina in Calheta. The weather was gorgeous too which is always a bonus. Would definitely recommend this villa for couples, friends or families its got everything you would want.

well kept, tidy and in a good location

Madeira is a beautiful island with an amazing natural landscape. Driving around the island and up and down the mountain is a unique experience. The Madeiran people are kind and helpful.

The house is in a good location, 45mins drive away from the airport and Funchal (city centre) and other sought after places like restaurantes are all easily accessible by car. Renting a car with full protection is recommended and useful. Madeira paragliding is 7mins away from the house.

The condition of the house is very good, tidy and well kept. Wifi, digital TV and house amenities are all available. I would recommended this property due to its well kept condition and location. Cabo Girao, Levada Walks (Mountains walks) are nearby (Tabua) and other places are quick and easy to access by car. Driving all way up to the top of mountain is a scary but exciting experience. Road infrastructure is very good and safe.

all in all, I had a very good experience- peaceful, romantic and beautiful.

Arco-da-Calheta is less than an hour from the picturesque small city of Funchal and the airport, which is to the east of Funchal. The house is 280 metres above sea-level and enjoys a warm climate with sea and countryside views across the banana plantations. There is a range of small shops, bars and cafés in the village, and a gym, taxi rank, cash machine, post office, health centre and pharmacy. There is also a small hotel with a restaurant on the edge of the village.

Calheta beach, 5 minutes drive away, has a well-stocked supermarket, a bank, a selection of restaurants, including a hotel with restaurant and bars and entertainment. The bay is partly enclosed, with a sandy beach on each side, and is good for snorkelling and sea swimming.

In the Marina whale and dolphin-watching boat-trips and sea-fishing boat trips are available.

Calheta has a sugar-cane factory with a bar where sugar-cane products may be sampled. High above Calheta beach is the Casa das Mudas with a range of art and other exhibitions.

Driving up above Arco, you will reach Paul da Serra, a high plateau surrounded by mountains. Here you will find the ancient laurisilva forest with levada walks and waterfalls. Unless you are experienced it is strongly recommended to book a guided levada walk as the levadas vary greatly in degree of difficulty. Other non-levada walks, have stunning views and ever-changing cloud patterns in the many valleys.

The North coast is very pretty with several small towns and villages and a rose garden in Arco São Jorge. Palheiro golf course is east of Funchal, and there is a new golf course due to open to the west of Arco da Calheta, in Ponta do Pargo.

Car hire is strongly recommended.
