fabulous retreat with stunning views
We had a wonderful week at Rustico dell’Eremo. The house is high up on the side of a mountain and very private. The terrace wraps around three sides of the house which catches the sun throughout the day and has breath taking views in all directions. The house was spotlessly clean with everything that we needed to hand. Meryl had provided excellent directions to the house as well as comprehensive instructions for appliances and recommendations for the local area. She was easily contactable should we still have any questions. Within the house there was plenty of information about local attractions with large scale maps of the local and surrounding areas. We were very sad to leave, a week was not long enough!

Absolutely gorgeous
Fantastic property up in the mountains. If it's silence and away from everyone?, this is the place to be.

A joy for the heart and soul
The photos do not do it justice. It is a way off the beaten track but the peace, quiet and views are stupendous. Everything needed was provided and the owner made sure our stay was everything we hoped for and more. We will certainly return if and when we can.

A house in the mountains
We arrived a little early; Meryl had been gardening. My first words to her, after how do you do, were 'The photographs don't do this place justice'--and they don't. If you know Italy and the light in the mountains in the early morning, in the brightness of the day, and in the glorious evening, you know how exquisite it is to sit and watch the play of light and cloud across the landscape, and to see the lights of the village across the valley coming on. And behind you, as you sit on the terrace, is a charming, comfortable and thoroughly welcoming house. Yes, the approach roads are rather exciting, and those who live in the mountains tend to drive as if no-one else ever uses the road (but they do, of course) but you get used to it and come to see it all as part of a holiday the memories of which will last and last as a time of special beauty. So: house great--charming, well-kept, well-organised: host kind and helpful, all together, who ever really wants to go home?

Fabulous mountain retreat
Thoroughly enjoyed our week at this villa. The peace, tranquility and unspoilt views are amazing. The accommodation is first class and made beautiful by the personal touches and homely feel not often found in rented villas. Meryl could not have been more helpful and had very kindly provided us with suggested hikes within the area. We really hope we get the opportunity to stay here again in the future and would highly recommend it to anyone wishing to escape and relax.

About the host

Host profile image
As a child, I fell in love with this part of Italy, and as an adult I was determined to fulfil my dream of living here. I bought what was once a cattle shed on a mountainside with a breathtaking view - and watched it as it acquired a life of its own and grew into the property it is today.

Why they chose this property

Anyone who loves peace and beauty could not fail to fall in love with the house and surroundings, for the views, the flowers, the wildlife and the silence. The feeling of being truly immersed in nature and light years away from the stress of normal daily life.
