Fabulous house and hosts in best location

  • 5 of 5

I had a wonderful stay in this stylish and homely property in DeWaterkant. The location finishings and ameneties as well as the hosts attitudes and cleaning services provided are the top end. Would highly recommend staying here.

Treasure in De Waterkant

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely delightful stay in the most beautiful surroundings! The terrace at the top is perfect for enjoying a glass of wine with Table Mountain in the background. Perfectly located in the heart of De Waterkant on Jarvis street, you're only a short walk away from a plethora of bars and restaurants. Highly recommended! Only wish we could've stayed longer!

A fabulous Town house in a convenient and great location.

  • 4 of 5

We loved it. Only downside was it was noisy over the weekend due to a club across the street. The house, its layout, its furnishings, and its location are great.

Great location, friendly people

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the property. It's very well located -- on a quiet street but located in a vibrant area. The house itself is great - beautiful design and well furnished with everything you might need. The staff was fantastic -- even letting us use the shower after we checked out when we became muddied after a hike. Couple other notes: the house does not have AC but even in the middle of the summer, it want a big deal and the ceiling fan kept us comfortable. There is some noise from a nearby bar, but it may have been louder than usual due to the New Years Eve time period when we visited.

Beautiful house in a safe and perfectly located Cape Town neighbourhood!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at 25 Jarvis on Christmas Day after nearly 30 hours of travel. We had arranged for the housekeeper Emma to help us with some groceries beforehand so everything we needed was there when we arrived. It is a lovely house with all the modern amenities - perfect for 4, adult sized people (we travelled with our 20 year old son and 17 year old daughter). Located in the gay district of Cape Town which didn't phase our family one bit. Excellent restaurants and cafe's all around. Walking distance to V&A, Robben Island Ferry and the Bree/Long Street area. Security guys were visible in the neighbourhood and we felt very safe. My son even got his hair cut at the salon across the street. Owner Virginia is based in Italy and was terrific to deal with. Her local partners Emma and Giorgia were exceptional and very helpful! We wish we had more time in Cape Town. If we ever get the chance to go back, we wouldn't hesitate to stay at 25 Jarvis again. Grazie Mille!!

More than home from home!

  • 5 of 5

If you are a family of no more than 5, then this property has everything you'll need for your stay in Cape Town. We stayed here for four days, the last leg of our trip to South Africa, so I wanted it to be a great ending to our family holiday and it did not disappoint. We were met my a delightful lady who managed the property for the owner. She was contactable during our stay, just in case we needed anything (we didn't) and met us at the end to check out if everything had been to our expectations - and of course to check out the property.

The owner of the property was very pleasant, helpful and responsive, which is what you need when arranging your holiday accommodation.

Each room was a delight to walk into, pristine and tastefully decorated with each of the two bedrooms having ceiling fans - great on warm nights in Cape Town. There's a second sitting area with a sofa-bed and its own bathroom with shower. This did not have a ceiling fan (could have done with a desk fan when the weather was hot), but didn't spoil our stay. The main bedroom and the sofa-bed room have flat screen TV's - which were only used by younger family members as meals were being prepared. Free WiFi was available with good access in most rooms.

It's located near local shops and restaurants, which are close enough (2 to 3 minutes walk), but not so close that you get bothered by any noise.

The famous V&A waterfront area is a pleasant 20-25 minutes stroll away - but if it's hot and you don't fancy the walk, you can always drive to one of the several car parks located at the V&A. Parking by the property is free, but not always easy to get when it's busy so on occasions I had to park about 3-5 minutes away. A word of advise when leaving on your final day - get up at around 06:30 and re-park the car if you need to, as I found plenty of parking in the street at that time (actually right outside) which was great when re-loading the car.

I'd recommend this property to family and friends, but only to those who don't have young children. The house has wooden floor and matching stairs, so young children may miss the steps and fall - plus the top roof area - although great for watching the sun go down in the evening, would be a parent's nightmare, as it's easily accessible - great for adults, but too risky for kids who love to explore.

For our family of adults, it was ideal and would certainly be a place we'd all be happy to stay again when visiting Cape Town. Highly recommended.

The De Waterkant neighbourhood is home to a lively, tolerant and lifestyle-centric community. Yoga studios, B&Bs, bistros and hairdressers line the streets, and cultures from all over the globe mingle freely and happily.

De Waterkant is now Cape Town's most fashionable district, with beautifully restored Victorian homes painted in bright hues crammed into a tight cobbled grid of streets, climbing up towards Signal Hill. This is the city's main gay area, with excellent nightlife and a wide choice of super-trendy restaurants, bars and boutiques.

Most of these are in the Cape Quarter, a shopping/dining complex with a charming outside piazza with a central water feature and trees with twinkly lights.

Today this sought after area is the antithesis of its troubled history. Still reflecting much of its 200-year-old architectural heritage it is a cobbled street shoppers delight, De Waterkant is filled with coffee shops and interior design firms. Affectionately known as the ‘pink area’, it is internationally renowned for its open-minded attitude and gay-friendly night spots.
