I grew up in Namibia, went to Univerversity in South Africa while my parents lived in East Africa. After graduating I went to the UK where I spent 20 happy years. With my late husband's work we travelled extensively and developed a yen for foreign places. When not in my lovely cottage in Domme I now live in the wine ands near Cape Town.
Linda Houston purchased this cottage in 1995
my husband and I spent two extended holidays looking for a bolt hole in France. We covered 14,000 km at first concentrating on which area of France we would like to live in and then narrowing the search down to villages then houses. Domme ticked all the boxes and then we found this derelict grange which meant that we could totally renovate and put our own stamp on it.
It is located in a quiet street, newly upgraded with planters with lavender all the way down the road. It is situated high on a rocky outcrop above the Dordogne river and looks down on the "valley of the seven chatteaux or otherwise known as the Golden Triangle between Domme, Castelnaud and Beynac." It has been voted amongst the top five Bastides in France.
We had a wonderful time staying in this deceptively spacious gorgeous cottage in Domme which is situated in a very quiet road just a couple of minutes from the centre of the village. It is extremely well equipped and very comfortable. There are many places to visit close by and it's a beautiful area for walking. We did sample a couple of the restaurants in the village, of which there are several, but it was so nice to go back to the cottage in the evening we ended up cooking for ourselves. Lovely to sit outside in the evening sunshine. Would definitely return and can highly recommend.
I can highly recommend staying in LInda's home. It is beautifully done and well furnished, making for a very comfortable stay. As you are in a residential part of town, it is very quiet. To add to this is you are close to the heart of a wonderful town. From your own place you can easily explore Domme, which gave us hours of fun. If I was to go back to Domme, I wouldn't hesitate staying in the same place.
What a lovely cottage! My husband and I recently spent a perfect week in Domme. The cottage is in a quiet village on a sloping street that looks out into the beautiful hills surrounding Domme. We immediately felt right at home, as the cottage is decorated and supplied as if someone lives there. The master bedroom is up a steep flight of steps (not for the unsteady) in a loft overlooking the living area. It is light and airy, very comfortable. The owner provides all the information needed to spend a delightful week sightseeing in the Dordogne Valley. We hope to be able to return to the cottage someday!
All the comforts of home. Lot's of space to relax. Easy to walk to the restaurants in the village. Good kitchen for cooking on those nights that you want to just veg. It was a godsend to have a washer /dryer. It allows you to pack lighter when you are on a 1 month road trip to the south of France,
