A two bedroom wheelchair friendly ground floor apartment on Loch Ness

The Old Armoury is a ground floor (wheelchair friendly) holiday home nestled on the shores of Loch Ness built in a unique Abbey in a unique location known as the award winning Highland Club, St Benedicts Abbey, Fort Augustus and centrally located within the Highlands of Scotland.

Short stays of 3, 4, 5 & 6 nights are welcome. Please refer to the end of this description regarding short stay rates.

The Highland Club facilities include a 10 metre indoor heated swimming pool ('Chapel Pool') located in the Pugin designed Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, a steam room and sauna. (PLEASE NOTE - the swimming pool and spa is currently undergoing refurbishment and may not be available until June 2017). Pugin’s sandstone walls are set off by a Brazilian green slate floor and large ornate windows affording stunning views across the Great Glen. The complex is serviced by a small changing room, shower and storage lockers. The gym is located on the floor below with weights, running, rowing and cycling equipment. Outside there's tennis courts, badminton, a barbeque fronting Loch Ness, a Giant Chess board, adventure playground, 5-a-side football, as well as may other outdoor activities located around Loch Ness. So much to do!

The apartment is fully equipped, including Wi-Fi, baby cot and high chair. This is an excellent choice for any group or family looking for something a bit different to the norm with all the creature comforts and more. The Old Armoury offers high quality fixtures, fittings and furnishings good enough to please even the most discerning visitor.

This modern two bedroom, ground floor apartment is located in the Brothers Wing and is one of the most historically important sections of The Highland Club - built within the original bastion walls, this would have housed the armoury used in defence of the fort dating back to 1716. Just ten meters from the adjoining free parking area, and immediately on the shores of Loch Ness, it is one of the most convenient and accessible properties within The Highland Club.

The property is well equipped based on up to 6 guests, (plus a baby). While benefiting from all the facilities, The Highland Club has lots more than most Scottish Highland holiday lets have to offer and is one of a few wheelchair friendly properties at the Abbey.

Accessed via The Brothers’ Wing courtyard, and with all modern comforts and conveniences, this property is just steps away from the Club Lounge, the Monastery Lawn, Loch Ness, the Boathouse Restaurant and, as already mentioned, a variety of leisure facilities offered within this fabulous development, so it is the ideal place to enjoy everything on your doorstep, plus more when adventuring out into the Highlands themselves. The best of both worlds!

Cool and modern in an historic setting

Our family of four enjoyed every aspect of this beautiful apartment! The easy walk into Fort Augustus, access to the Great Glen Way, pubs and shops - and all on the shore of Loch Ness. We stayed in eight cities, towns and villages during our three weeks in Ireland and Scotland, and this was by far our favorite home away from home.

A totally enchanting and delightful experience living amongst ghosts of days gone by.

What a surprise when we arrived at St Benedicts to find that we would actually be staying in the Monks Wing, which was part of the original Abbey. We enjoyed exploring the cloister and peeping into alcoves throughout the facility. The amenities were all we could have asked for and my husband especially appreciated the Sauna. The immaculate apartment was spacious and well appointed and the fact that we could walk into Fort Augustus in about 5 minutes was a huge plus. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely home. We hope to come back again in the near future.

Scottish Holiday in style

The Highland Club probably one of the most beautiful accommodation we have stayed in as far the location goes within the UK. It's on the bank of Loch Ness so every morning you weak up to something spectacular. The apartment we stayed in is fully equipped. We were a group of 9, four adults and 5 small children. Most everything was of very high standard. Beds and the sofa beds could have been better quality along with the pillows. Internet connection was not stable either but in a location like that you don't feel the need for that 😜򗀠overall it was very pleasant and we will definitely revisit and highly recommend.

Lovely apartment in a stunning building

We went for our fifth holiday with friends in the May weekend and chose this property over a larger one because of the Abbey's amenities. While it is "cosy" for 8 people (and the living room sofa bed is not very comfy), the flat was nicely presented and clean and the Abbey is fantastic. We used the pool, the snooker table, the tennis courts, the skittles, the playpark - and had a great break away.

Great family week end

Our stay at The Old Armoury was really goo. Place have a range ogf activity for the family and beautiful surroundings. However we have to use sofa-bed in the living room and was really uncomfortable despite the fact the management send us a mattress cover for it.

Owner's Response: This is a two bedroom apartment which may accomodate up to six adults and two children or four adults and four children if the guests use the two sofa beds. This arrangement is a cheap alternative to the larger (more expensive) apartments at the Abbey where guests will be charged a higher rate of fees. Therefore, there is a compromise of paying less with part of any larger group of guests having to use the sofa beds. Our on-site manager only recently informed us that some guests were un-comfortable on the lounge sofa bed, so we are changing the sofa bed mattress for a new mattress.

Lovely apartment

This is a lovely apartment in beautiful surroundings. Spacious and cosy.

A short walk into Fort Augustus..

Large en suite master bedroom, a slightly smaller 2nd bedroom, 2nd full sized bathroom and open plan living, dining and kitchen areas. Great to return to after a day out.

The kitchen is stocked with all the crockery and utensils you could possibly need.

There are DVD, games and books that you can use. A complementary welcome pack.

Take a wander round the cloistered area.

Plenty of parking.

Did not use the pool or gym.

Limited freeview channels.

Generally very clean except for the fluff on the bedroom carpets ( why I deducted 1 point).

Would not hesitate to return here.

Today, the Highland Club is totally unique residence comprising of luxury apartments full of original features including a swimming pool and spa (PLEASE NOTE - the swimming pool and spa is currently undergoing refurbishment and may not be available until June 2017). Explore the history of the area and its villages like Fort Augustus, Foyers, Cannich, and Drumnadrochit. Skiing is just 20 miles away at Aonach Mor which forms part of the Ben Nevis mountain range and en-route to the historic town of Fort William just 25 miles away with access to the Isle of Skye.
