About Lynn Lawton

I am a part-time tutor of English for international students at a university. I have many friends abroad, and my son's family live in Colorado in the US. I live in Surrey in a small 18th century cottage. My interests are nature and the environment, history, house renovation, music, walking and gardening.

Lynn Lawton purchased this house in 1970

Why Lynn Lawton chose Nottinghamshire

My parents bought this house in 1970 when my father's work (international educational bookseller) required him to move to the Midlands. My son spent all his school holidays there when he was growing up. After my mother died in 2008 I decided to renovate the property and retain some of the furniture, books and other items that had been used when my parents lived there.

What makes this house unique

This house has a calm and happy atmosphere and gets the sun in the kitchen in the morning and in the sitting room in the afternoon. When the weather is not so kind it is cosy and comfortable and there is a log fire too. There is also a proper dining room- the house is traditional and elegant but also spacious and unfussily furnished. The countryside is good for walks and bike rides and there are plenty of places to visit. Nottingham is about 40 minutes drive away.

Thank you for providing us with a new home from home. My family and I will remember our stay in Muston for ever. Although under sad circumstances (family funeral) your cottage provided us with peace and happiness.

Had a great weekend celebrating a birthday- super day at Belton House , followed by a fabulous meal at Paul's in Bottesford. Sunday morning tour of Belvoir Castle was very educational and lunch at The Forge tearooms in Muston finished off a lovely weekend! Cottage had everything we needed, thank you!

Very comfortable and wonderfully quiet. The local walks are excellent- the canal was superb with a large flock of tree sparrows and healthy dragonfly populations...and Muston Meadows National Nature Reserve's a real treasure.......must be fantastic in early summer....a really big selling point of the cottage's location.....would recommend Belton House, Southwell (especially the workhouse) and Woolsthorpe Manor. We really enjoyed our meals in your lovely dining room and breakfasts in the bright and sunny kitchen. Excellent!

Another fantastic stay in a lovely cottage, in a lovely quiet village

  • 5 of 5

Thanks again for a restful stay in your cottage. We stayed with another family and their daughter , ample room for everyone, a great lounge for all being together (7 of us!) and lots of space for lunches / dinners. A great place to explore from for families.

Well appointed cottage with great character

  • 4 of 5

We had a very enjoyable stay in a cottage with great character enabling us to visit with and host relatives. Everything that we needed was supplied, the only negative comment being that the fridge was too small for the six person capacity of the house, and for an extended stay. There are lots of walks around the area and our daughter in law and grand daughter made friends with the sheep and newly minted lambs nearby.
