Casa Eva review August 2015

What an absolutely stunning place to stay for the week! The photos don't really do it justice. Very spacious and oozing historic charm. The lounge was particularly lovely. Wonderful views from the bedrooms! The pool and garden are beautiful. The pool is quite small but lovely and refreshing on hot days. The views of the surrounding hills and sounds of goat bells was idillyic. The boys were particularly pleased to have wifi access too! Really peaceful place to be in the daytime but noisy dogs barking in the night! The mosquito nets on the doors and windows were great- we didn't have any mosquito issues apart from the evening we visited Pisa when I was eaten alive!

We stayed in Pietrasanta the night before arriving at Casa Eva and the journey the satnav took us on from there was pretty hairy- not for the faint- hearted! Lots of tight hairpin bends, twists and turns through the mountains! Stunning scenery, but we'd recommend the Lucca road as an easier route! We loved Pietrasanta and Lucca and would definitely recommend visiting them if you can tear yourselves away from the beautiful villa! There's also an amazing bridge just before Bagni di Lucca which was worth a visit.

We all had an absolutely lovely time and would love to return one day. Thank you for the privilege of staying here.

Casa Eva, Pescaglia, Toscana

  • 5 of 5

The tranquillity of this lovely house was wonderful and was a perfect venue for our extended family holiday. The pool was great for the adults and for our small grandson, and we played happily in it for hours on end. It was especially helpful that the pool was heated, for our early season stay. Late evening swimming was a real treat.

At various times, some or all of us made visits to Lucca, Florence and the Cinque Terre. Other small towns nearby also looked interesting.

The Esselunga supermarket at Marlia was excellent and the charming owners of local shop and bar in Pescaglia stock a fascinating range: fresh bread every day, and local cheese and meats on the one hand, and then kitchen equipment on the other.

We very much appreciated the sympathetic restoration of the house, combining traditional materials and stylish comfort. The house was very well-maintained and the views are just as stunning as claimed.

We were very well looked after by the local caretaker and would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

A fantastic, relaxing holiday in a beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my husband and two friends had a fantastic stay at Casa Eva in June. The house is a lot larger and more characterful than I was expecting despite the photographs being accurate. The decor was great, as was the level of comfort and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc. We would all love to stay there again in the future. The garden is extremely private with gorgeous views over the hills and by night the fireflies come out which is a lovely sight. Pescaglia is a small place but there is a great little grocery store with some lovely ham and other basic provisions with an adjoining bar. A short drive away there are good quality, friendly restaurants – we tried La Fonte and Ristorante Molin Della Volpe which were both very good. There are great walks and drives immediately from the property - we particularly enjoyed going into Lucca itself and walking around Garganana; San Pellegrino in Alpe and areas around Bagni di Lucca.

Really nice furnished historical Toscany house

  • 5 of 5

we had a very pleasant stay at this wonderful peaceful place. The listing description was more than accurate. The photos don´t lie. It is a very good place

to stay with more than one family. The property was clean and everything you need for cooking was also there. The pool was great, the garden and the view out of the garden was each time of the day fantastic. The Restaurant La Fonte in Trebbio, which is the nearest one, is tremendous. Very good toscany dishes for a real good low price, they are very friendly and it was no problem that one of our children has a gluten allergy. They treated usalways very good. The owner and her contact for the customers charlotte provided good service for us. Charlotte gave us a warm and friendly welcome and showed us the the whole house very pacient. She also took care for any problems we got. The way to the beach is about a 1 hour ride by car. We enjoyed our holidays at the house very

much and might come back sometime for a longer stay.

Perfect place to explore Tuscany and Lucca

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 4 looking to explore this region and needed a base from which to do this. We think we found the perfect place. The house is set in a picture postcard Italian village with beautiful views. The house itself is tres chic and well equipped for all our needs.Bedrooms and living areas were spacious and very comfortable. The decor is lovely. We also enjoyed the lovely pool in the garden - great size and very safe for children. We particularly enjoyed visiting Lucca and the towns of forte de Marmi and Pietra Santa. Fantastic restaurants and sandy beaches. We will be booking again for this year and have recommended to friends.

Wonderful setting, stunning views

  • 5 of 5

If there is a more wonderful setting for a holiday home, I have yet to see it!

The house is perched at the top of the stunning mountain village of Pescaglia, and the views are quite simply breathtaking. We saw golden eagles swooping above us, and awoke to the gentle tinkle of cowbells from the valley below.

The house is spacious and luxurious, and the owners clearly have an eye for style. They have retained the wonderful Tuscan architecture, whilst making it cosy and friendly. There's even an air hockey table in one of the rooms - I bet there aren't many of those in Pescaglia! Great fun on one of the rare rainy days. The swimming pool is perfect for cooling off on the hot days. Because of this, and the wonderful views from the hillside garden, there is a real temptation to spend all of your time at the house, but that would be to miss out on so much else that the region has to offer. The lovely walled city of Lucca is a 20 minute drive down the valley, with Pisa (and the airport) a further 20 minutes on from there. Florence, and all it has to offer, is 35 minutes from Lucca. We found that we had really done Pisa by the time we had taken the obligatory "hold up the Leaning Tower one handed" photographs, but we did find a lovely beach just to the north of the city that only the locals seemed to know about. Lucca however is fantastic and could have kept us enthralled and entertained for days. If you have kids (or even if you don't) we would recommend cycling around the wall itself; safe, flat and picturesque. Bikes can be hired very cheaply. The shopping is amazing too.

As to restaurants, we discovered a real treat in the hamlet at the bottom of the Pescaglia valley, no more that a mile from the house. "La Fonte" is run by a lovely Italian lady called Daniella, who just happens to hail from Glasgow. It is quite a shock to hear her lapse into her broad Scottish accent when she realises you are from the UK! The locals all seem to head here, and you can see why.

Any tips? Well there is a rather steep climb from the village square (where you park the car) to the house. Take it slowly! You can however drive to the top of the village (but not park) and walk down, which is helpful when shifting your luggage.

All in all, we had a wonderful time in this lovely peaceful place, and would have no hesitation in recommending a stay there. In fact, we already have, to several of our friends and family!

Absolutely fabulous villa in the Tuscan Hills

  • 5 of 5

I went to this villa in Pescaglia searching for rest and relaxation and it exceeded my expectations in every way. Perched high upon this Tuscan hillside with far reaching views, the villa was even better in person than on paper.

The owners have lovingly refurbished their warm, stylish and inviting home to a high standard. It is meticulously kept and very clean. The kitchen was well stocked for those who enjoy cooking and there is even a large working fireplace in the living room where I enjoyed a bottle or two by the crackling flames! The villa also has a Welcome Pack with information regarding local sights, activities and restaurants. In fact, one of the best restaurants I ate in was less than 10 minutes away. Delicious food and great value for money.

The meandering villa is perfectly laid out for families, couples or groups of friends. I would advise families traveling with very young children to take note of the owner's remarks regarding staircases and terrain. The house has all the mod-cons one would need to be comfortable abroad including wifi, ipod docking stations and TV/DVD player. The owner was also kind enough to arrange for me to have a massage onsite with a brilliant masseuse named Charlotte. Charlotte also greeted me upon my arrival and was on stand-by to answer any questions I had.

If you can tear yourself away from the comfort of your environment, the ancient walled town of Lucca is just a 30 minute drive away. It is both sophisticated and full of old world charm. There are a wide variety of excellent shops, cafe/restaurants and sightseeing.

If I had more time, I would have explored the area more fully. It just means I'll have more things to do when I return with my family in a warmer month. I look forward to enjoying a glass of prosecco by the pool!

I highly recommend this villa if you're looking for relaxation and peace of mind in an absolutely stunning environment. I'll be back!

  • Whilst children are welcome at the house (we have often had two/three year olds staying), the property is on several levels and does not have stair gates or specific child safety features. There is an open pool in the garden. Extra care should be taken at all times if staying at the house with young children who should be monitored at all times. Because there is a steep path leading to the house, we feel that it is not ideal for the elderly or infirm. The pool is graduating in depth from paddling to 6.5 feet at the deep end. It is not suitable for diving.
