Casa Eva review August 2015

What an absolutely stunning place to stay for the week! The photos don't really do it justice. Very spacious and oozing historic charm. The lounge was particularly lovely. Wonderful views from the bedrooms! The pool and garden are beautiful. The pool is quite small but lovely and refreshing on hot days. The views of the surrounding hills and sounds of goat bells was idillyic. The boys were particularly pleased to have wifi access too! Really peaceful place to be in the daytime but noisy dogs barking in the night! The mosquito nets on the doors and windows were great- we didn't have any mosquito issues apart from the evening we visited Pisa when I was eaten alive!

We stayed in Pietrasanta the night before arriving at Casa Eva and the journey the satnav took us on from there was pretty hairy- not for the faint- hearted! Lots of tight hairpin bends, twists and turns through the mountains! Stunning scenery, but we'd recommend the Lucca road as an easier route! We loved Pietrasanta and Lucca and would definitely recommend visiting them if you can tear yourselves away from the beautiful villa! There's also an amazing bridge just before Bagni di Lucca which was worth a visit.

We all had an absolutely lovely time and would love to return one day. Thank you for the privilege of staying here.

Casa Eva is located in Pescaglia, an attractive Tuscan Village in the Commune of Lucca, 10 miles north of Lucca Old Town. The village is nestled within the Apuan Alps mountain range - great for walking and exploring natural sights. You'll need a car to get the most out of your stay as the village is remote. The house sits on the edge of the village boasting stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The village is charming and characterful albeit very small with one local village shop and bar. La Fonte a restaurant popular with both locals and holiday makers is just down the hill in Trebbio and serves amazing, great value, Tuscan food.

Celle Dei Puccini - the birthplace of Pucini is close by.

There are restaurants and further shops at Borgo A Mozzano nearby.

Bagni Di Lucca is also a short drive away - an attractive Village with restaurants, a Thermal Spa and a large public pool with diving boards set in the grounds of a Villa. A range of beauty treatments are available at the Spa.

Another great town 30 minutes away is Barga.

The Beaches of Viareggio, and Forte Dei Marmi are an hour away by car with Lido Di Camaiore Beach a 45 minute drive away.

Lucca, with its stunning walled 'old town' is a 35 minute drive from the house and has a range of attractions. There is also a local bus service to Lucca three times a day. Cycling around the Lucca wall is not to be missed! A day trip to the wine region of Monte Carlo near Lucca is fun also.

Florence 1 hour 30 minutes away

Pisa Airport is 60 minutes away by car. Alternatively you can drive to Lucca and take the train from there.

In summary Pescaglia is a great base from which to explore Northern Tuscany's natural beauty, beaches and cultural offerings by car.

Notes:
Whilst children are welcome at the house (we have often had two/three year olds staying), the property is on several levels and does not have stair gates or specific child safety features. There is an open pool in the garden. Extra care should be taken at all times if staying at the house with young children who should be monitored at all times. Because there is a steep path leading to the house, we feel that it is not ideal for the elderly or infirm. The pool is graduating in depth from paddling to 6.5 feet at the deep end. It is not suitable for diving.

Fabulous house in an amazing setting

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a relaxing stay in an idyllic location and a property with oodles of character then this is the place for you. The house is set high up on the hill overlooking the village and the walk up from the village square is steep and beguiling. The village is a mass of narrow pedestrian cobbled streets which it seemed to us have probably changed little over several centuries, The view from the (heated) pool is wonderful over the wooded hills and valleys with just the sound of the circling buzzards and sheep bells to distract you. Although there are limited facilities in the village there are several excellent restaurants within 10 or 15 minutes drive and huge supermarket within 20. We didn't travel very far as we have visited the area several times before, but Lucca was as lovely as we remembered and we popped in to Pisa just so a couple of our party could take the obligatory photo holding up the tower. As you can probably tell we had a great stay - thanks Paulette for your help with booking and to Charlotte who met us at the house and gallantly carried our shopping!

Wonderful house in beautiful village!

  • 4 of 5

It would get five stars if it was not for the constantly 24/7 barking dog next door.

Casa Eva, Pescaglia, Toscana

  • 5 of 5

The tranquillity of this lovely house was wonderful and was a perfect venue for our extended family holiday. The pool was great for the adults and for our small grandson, and we played happily in it for hours on end. It was especially helpful that the pool was heated, for our early season stay. Late evening swimming was a real treat.

At various times, some or all of us made visits to Lucca, Florence and the Cinque Terre. Other small towns nearby also looked interesting.

The Esselunga supermarket at Marlia was excellent and the charming owners of local shop and bar in Pescaglia stock a fascinating range: fresh bread every day, and local cheese and meats on the one hand, and then kitchen equipment on the other.

We very much appreciated the sympathetic restoration of the house, combining traditional materials and stylish comfort. The house was very well-maintained and the views are just as stunning as claimed.

We were very well looked after by the local caretaker and would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

A fantastic, relaxing holiday in a beautiful house

  • 5 of 5

Myself, my husband and two friends had a fantastic stay at Casa Eva in June. The house is a lot larger and more characterful than I was expecting despite the photographs being accurate. The decor was great, as was the level of comfort and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils etc. We would all love to stay there again in the future. The garden is extremely private with gorgeous views over the hills and by night the fireflies come out which is a lovely sight. Pescaglia is a small place but there is a great little grocery store with some lovely ham and other basic provisions with an adjoining bar. A short drive away there are good quality, friendly restaurants – we tried La Fonte and Ristorante Molin Della Volpe which were both very good. There are great walks and drives immediately from the property - we particularly enjoyed going into Lucca itself and walking around Garganana; San Pellegrino in Alpe and areas around Bagni di Lucca.

Really nice furnished historical Toscany house

  • 5 of 5

we had a very pleasant stay at this wonderful peaceful place. The listing description was more than accurate. The photos don´t lie. It is a very good place

to stay with more than one family. The property was clean and everything you need for cooking was also there. The pool was great, the garden and the view out of the garden was each time of the day fantastic. The Restaurant La Fonte in Trebbio, which is the nearest one, is tremendous. Very good toscany dishes for a real good low price, they are very friendly and it was no problem that one of our children has a gluten allergy. They treated usalways very good. The owner and her contact for the customers charlotte provided good service for us. Charlotte gave us a warm and friendly welcome and showed us the the whole house very pacient. She also took care for any problems we got. The way to the beach is about a 1 hour ride by car. We enjoyed our holidays at the house very

much and might come back sometime for a longer stay.

Perfect place to explore Tuscany and Lucca

  • 5 of 5

We are a family of 4 looking to explore this region and needed a base from which to do this. We think we found the perfect place. The house is set in a picture postcard Italian village with beautiful views. The house itself is tres chic and well equipped for all our needs.Bedrooms and living areas were spacious and very comfortable. The decor is lovely. We also enjoyed the lovely pool in the garden - great size and very safe for children. We particularly enjoyed visiting Lucca and the towns of forte de Marmi and Pietra Santa. Fantastic restaurants and sandy beaches. We will be booking again for this year and have recommended to friends.
