This part of the house is on two floors. The lower floor contains an open plan kitchen with all basic facilities, such as a kettle, toaster, hob, oven, fridge with freezer compartment. It opens up into the living / dining area from which a twin bedroom can be accessed. Doors from the dining area as well as from the kitchen lead to the courtyard garden outside.

An exterior open staircase leads to the top floor ending on a terrace with amazing views over Kalamata bay. The double bedroom opens out to this terrace and is also linked to the toilet and bathroom. It can be closed off for privacy, as the bathroom and toilet can also be accessed via a door on the other side of the terrace.

About the property

House Dimi

Dimi House is a traditionally restored house with blue shutters and white washed walls. It can be used as two separate units, each with their own kitchen, bathroom, living areas, terraces and bedrooms. Each unit can be rented out individually and has its own access and gate.

This House, the 'Upper house' is the more spacious of the two. It has an open plan kitchen/ dining/ living area and a twin bedroom on the lower floor. An open staircase in the courtyard leads to the top floor where there is a terrace with stunning views, a double bedroom, a bathroom and a separate toilet.

An extra bed can be put up to accomodate 5 if this is required.

Both houses are well equipped with basic facilities, such as kettles, ovens, crockery, etc. There is no washing machine, but a laundry service available on request

The drive down to Kalamata, the nearby town, takes about 10 to 15min. along winding roads. There you will find large supermarkets, a shopping street with all on offer that one could desire, a promenade along the seafront with cafés and restaurants alongside a sandy long beach. Kalamata has hosted many international arts festivals in open air locations in the summer months, such as dance and music performances in amphitheatres and open air cinemas on roof terraces. Another lovely walk can be taken along the marina, where further restaurants can be found.

If you prefer to keep away from the bustle of a buzzing town a petrol station, fantastic traditional bakery, pharmacy and mini supermarket can be found on the main road leading up to Kato Verga.

There is a lovely local restaurant in walking distance with spectacular views and a seasonal Greek menu. Just as the house it is also on the shady side of the mountain until later morning hours and in the evenings one can admire the sun set from a terrace with a drink in hand!

You are situated on the Peloponese, which offers the opportunity to explore many of Greece's ancient sites throughout the year.

Especially in the spring and autumn months the mountain with Kato Verga as a starting point lends itself to some breathtaking walks. The tranquility of the house during these times of year also make a painting holiday attractive. Greece has a special light that many authors and artists have tried to capture in their works.

It is advisable to have a car. This can be parked on the road above the house. Due to the open plan staircases and open courtyards we do not recommend the properties with younger children or toddlers.

About Stefanie West

My husband and I live in England with our three daughters . Both our backgrounds are in architecture, but we have now branched off into other careers. This is my husband and three daughters on a boat trip in August 2016.

Stefanie West purchased this house in 1988

Why Stefanie West chose Ditiki Mani

My father purchased the whole group of houses, as ruins. As an architect he restored them traditionally. As he had lived and worked in Cyprus and Greece for over 20 years he could do this sensitively and as part of the community he grew into on site. We inherreted the house when my father passed away and would love to be in it much more than we are able to! We are happy to share it!

What makes this house unique

It has an amazing location that can not easily be found elsewhere. The combination of rocky, wild mountains right by the seafront and still embedded in terraces of citrus fruits, fig trees and olive trees, sitting under vines with breath taking views....heaven!

A holiday home in a traditional Greek setting

  • 3 of 5

The description is spot on. This renovated, traditional house is comfortable to live in without being over modernised. We greatly enjoyed taking meals on the terraces, sun or shade , depending on the weather. The height gives great views, but it is quite a climb to get there.

Beautiful but caution

  • 4 of 5

Great house lovely woman who rents out. Everything perfect except for steps up to upper floor which has no railings. This is dangerous it's been bought back to me because of a friend tragedy with marble steps. Please Stephanie sort this. Otherwise an idyllic beautiful home

Owner's Response: Although we always warn visitors about the open staircase, especially if they have younger children, a valid point that we have looked into. We are in the process of adding a more substantial arrangement that will still be in keeping with the old style of the house! Thank you for your valid feedback.

A great place to enjoy your holidays

  • 4 of 5

We (2 adults and 1 teenager) spent 1 week in the Dimi House (the upper one).

The house is really nice, clean, spacious and has an awesome view over Kalamata and its vicinity.

The kitchen is located in the lower story and is well equipped. Only thing we were missing there, was a coffe maker, but there's a ceramic coffee filter you can use - or just drink instant coffee.

Next to the kitchen is a fire place and the eating room, which we never used, because the upper terrace is the place to go for eating and chilling. A few steps up next to the fire place, there's one bedroom with two single beds. Only downside are the mattresses, because they are worn and not comfortable, anymore. There's a mosquito net above the bed, which is great!

The upper story consists of 1 spacious bathroom with a roomy shower, 1 lavatory and 1 bedroom, containing a double bed with a better mattress.

Not to forget the wonderful terrace with a great view over Kalamata.

All in all it has been a great stay at the Dimi House!

Only downsides were the mattresses in the lower bedroom and the missing comfortable chairs for the terrace (most of them are broken).

Thanks a lot for a nice stay!

A beautiful house in a wonderful location.

  • 5 of 5

We spent our honeymoon in this perfectly charming house in September for 11 days. The house had everything that we needed, very well equipped, more than enough space, very comfortable, beautifully decorated in keeping with it's Greek history, fantastic views and impeccably clean. The only downside I can think of is that we didn't have long enough!

One of the reasons we choose the Kalamata house was for it's location in terms of accessibility to the beaches, mountains and historical sites. We were not disappointed and found it an easy and enjoyable drive to all of the above. Visiting Kardimili, Koroni, Pylos, Methoni, and Kalamata amongst others during our stay.

The owner of the house Stefanie was very friendly and helpful from start to finish providing us with all the information that we needed. I would absolutely recommend this house to friends and relatives and anyone wishing to stay in a quiet location within easy reach of so many of the wonderful places to see and visit in the Peloponnese.

We also spent some very enjoyable evenings eating outside on the dining area on the upper floor. The pictures on the website really don't give the place true justice it is even more beautiful in reality.

We really enjoyed every moment of our stay and would very much like to return.

An attractive location with many opportunities for sightseeing trips.

The charming, traditional property is situated in the tranquil village of Kato Verga half way up a mountain with breath taking views over the bay of Kalamata. It forms part of a small group of old stone houses that have been sensitively restored in a traditional Greek style. The region of Kalamata is well known for its production of fine olive oil and export of olives, so the property is surrounded by olive groves, fig trees, citrus trees on terraces that step down. There is a restaurant in walking distance (5min.).

Kalamata, the nearby town (approximately 10-15min drive), offers an array of restaurants, cafés, bars and ice cream parlours along the promenade which runs parallel to the sandy beach along the seafront. There is a shopping street, with a mixture of traditional and international brands on offer. Kalamata has several large supermarkets, a well functioning hospital and offers an interesting range of cultural activities in the summer months.

With the new motorway in place the drive from Athens to Kalamata is about 3 hours, but Kalamata has its own international airport with direct flights arriving from England and Germany .

Koroni, Methoni or Pylos (Navarino) with their spectacular forts are under an hours drive away, as is Messini. Other well known historical land marks such as the bysantine town of Mistra, Sparta or Vassai, one of the best preserved Greek temples are within just over an hours reach away. Even Olympia, the Argolis (Mycene, Argos, Nauplia, Epidaurus) and the attractive Monemvasia are within a radius of a two hour drive from Kalamata.

On the doorstep lies the peninsula of Mani, with its rocky bays, long sandy beaches, its fort like villages with tall stone towers and mountain ranges in the distance. One never tires of the beautiful locations with endless viewpoints over unspoilt landscapes.
