Riga penthouse accommodates a maximum of 5 persons, it offers 2 double bedrooms and a sofa bed, a large spacious living room area, an open plan well equipped kitchen with open plan dinning area, hallway and office section. It also has a bathroom with bath, shower, bidet and toilet & separate utility room with toilet and washing machine.
The apartment is situated on the top floor or a 3-story building. It is comfortable, spacious and stylishly designed with many features in keeping with the penthouse character. Exposed beams, open brickwork and for the winter months a traditional working Latvian fireplace. Cool in the summer and warm in the winter, Riga Penthouse has a genuine home from home feeling about it.
Ideally located on the impressive Krisjana Barona Street, just 5 minutes walk from Riga Old Town, many good restaurants, supermarket, local shops and parks are nearby and the newly opened Berga Baz?rs shopping center and roof top restaurants is just a few minutes walk away.
I love my apartment in Riga and lived there for 4 years but in 2009 I moved to London and although I make a point of returning to my home town regularly, I decided to let others enjoy my home in order to also enjoy my wonderful city.
The apartment is very spacious and light and although it is a bit of a climb up the 50 stairs to the top story, the penthouse style, with beams and strange angles gives it so much character. The main bedroom is big with a queen size double bed and en suite bathroom, the second room is only slightly smaller and has just as much character.
The kitchen is modern and well equipped with a large refrigerator and oven and hob. The sitting area is cozy and bright with 2 sofas one of which converts into a single or small double bed.
There is a large open plan living area which include sitting room, dinning room, kitchen and hallway and a separate room guest toilet
I am surrounded by great restaurants, local food markets and parks and its only a 5 minute walk to the old city and the famous Riga Opera. By car it is only 30 minutes to the wonderful Latvian coast and beaches.
I do have my own web site at www.rigapenthouse.com
The Riga Penthouse is the perfect place from which to base yourself when visiting Riga Latvia. It has a lovely atmosphere and is perfectly located to enjoy the city, restaurants, local theatres, shops, salons and popular meeting places. The location of the apartment could be described as the Chelsea of Riga. From the apartment it is only 30 minutes drive to the wonderful Latvian coastline with its amazing unspoilt sandy beaches and dune forests. It is just a short stroll through the park to the famous Riga Opera and only 10 minutes walk to the historic Old Town.
The nearest well stocked supermarket is only 2 min walk away along KR Barona and the main food market selling all the local produce is about 2 miles away by bus/taxi but on a every 2nd Saturday of the month the local Farmers market is held just less than 5 minutes walk away in Berga Bazara Courtyard.
Recommended local restaurants are Osiris Bistro that offers excellent food all day to late evening and also Gallary Istaba which is a combined art gallery with top quality home made cuisine served by a local celebrity chef ( approx cost £15 for 2 courses plus drinks) The best restaurant in town is Vincents run by Chef de Patron Martins Ritins it is about 20 minutes walk from my apartment 5 min by taxi where you can enjoy world class food and service for £60 per person. Banks and currency exchange are located all over the city but there is a currency exchange office 25 meters from my door.
The new state of art Galleria Riga shopping centre on Blaumana Street with the biggest roof top restaurant in Europe is less than 5 minutes walk away. The best views of the city can be seen from the top of the hotel Reval Latvia from its Penthouse bar which has a 360 degree view of the city. The old town has many historic buildings displaying the rich history of Riga from the mid 15c to modern day.
The architecture is strong evidence the Riga was one of the main cities in the Hanseatic league and consequently was popular with the rich and famous of the European and Russian aristocrats and merchant class. There are also many Gym and Yoga facilities within 5 minutes walk of the apartment.
Enjoyed our stay at the Riga Penthouse for two stays in November as we explored Latvia & Estonia. Great advice from Evijja (ie. don't get a car -- parking is a hassle and you don't need it...cabs are readily available and cheap:). After a long flight, we arrived early due to an expedient process at the Riga airport and ease of getting a cab. "Mum" greeted us at the door, showed us around, and left us some bread, meat and cheese. Great touch ! It was nice having 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms and a laundry as well. Pics were accurate:) Beds are comfy. Kitchen/dining/living room combo was nice, too. Location awesome for us. It was 1/2 way between our sons apartment and the downtown area. Lots of coffee shops/restaurants/pubs within a block, only 2 blocks to the central Riga park, then easy walk through a second park (and an old time Xmas market!) before arriving in the Old Town district . The numerous Xmas markets in Old Town were fabulous, and the dining throughout the city was outstanding. Pubs carved out of buildings from the 1300's were a treat as well. Took a day trip to Jumala to walk along the Baltic Sea... ... ... The pricing of Riga Penthouse takes into consideration the following minor factors: the alleyway and stairwell were definitely interesting experiences and kept it from being a 5 in my book. However it was a short, well lit walk to the entryway and we never felt unsafe. Evijja quickly took care of an issue with a squatter. Steps were OK -- we knew it would be a 3 level climb. Nice wide winding staircase. Always bring keys so you don't get locked in or out of the entry door. It was randomly left open or locked (from both directions) by others -- we just followed their lead. You will not be able to get out without a key at times. I missed my coffee pot -- didn't quite get the hang of the press. (They knew us by name at the coffee shop downstairs, however ! ) As I mentioned, both beds were very comfortable as were the comforters on top of them -- sleep was awesome during the week. The base vibrations from the disco two doors down (not the music) kept us up on weekends however :( .... Overall great stay, though!
The tone of our stay was set by the warm greeting we received, a genuine and charming beginning to our most enjoyable stay in this Riga gem. Breakfast provisions were thoughtfully provided, and the detailed instructions provided before our arrival meant we found our way to the apartment from the airport without any trouble at all.
The location is fantastic - an easy walk to the old town, supermarkets and cafes just steps away. A perfect base to explore the architectural treasures of this beautiful city - wandering through the Art Nouveau neighbourhood especially recommended - again, a pleasant walk from the apartment. We also caught the tram which runs up the street to explore some beautiful parks and cemeteries on the outskirts of the city.
We felt so at home in our cosy apartment that we ended up staying in much more than anticipated - cooking our own meals and enjoying the wonderful wood-fired stove.
All necessities are provided, the wi-fi access is great, bedrooms comfortable, kitchen well-stocked.
I recommend this apartment wholeheartedly for an unforgettable stay in Riga!
If you are heading to Riga, you can stop searching for your perfect home away from home as you have found it in this penthouse! This is a top floor apartment on a major shopping road in Riga, about a 15 minute walk to the old town. It is just lovely inside, fully furnished, very comfortable, immaculately clean, and the best beds we have slept in on a vacation in a very long while. The owner has basically opened up her own home, offering the guest the use of everything in it. It is not a stripped down rental with the minimum amount of furniture and other necessities in a good rental, but a first class home complete with all the comforts of home as well! Really and truly, you can stop looking for a finer apartment as it was just lovely. Just perfect!
The owner was very friendly, very accommodating and with good and timely communication. The rental rate is very reasonable for what is provided. In addition, the owner was available to answer any questions, and even assisted in calling us a taxi the morning of our departure as we do not speak the native language. We felt really in good hands.
Americans (as we are)...........if this is your first trip overseas, you may not know a few basic things about life outside the USA. First, if you need a property with an elevator, this is not for you as there is not one. Either pack very lightly so you can walk up 3 flights of steps to this apartment each day or stay in a hotel. Next, if you are not OK with walking through an alley laden with graffiti, totally unlit at night in order to get into the building where this apartment is located, this apartment is not for you. The entrance to this building is gritty. The staircase leading up to the apartment is also less than beautiful. But, if you are an experienced traveler and have run into this sort of thing before, you will be fine with it. There is nothing unsafe about the area, but it can be a bit disconcerting if you have never experienced life in a big, old city such as Riga.
These things said, book this property! You will be delighted with it!
