About the Owner

In 1985 we finished to restore a ruin, which has been for several years our winter weekend house in Begur. As I always loved this Costa Brava area I came to live permanently in Begur in 1992 working for a real estate office. Now as I am retired and moved to a smaller place, my children only using it during the winter season we started to rent it during the summer month

Location

From the Owner

The convenience of this property is that you are in the centre of the village having your own parking space and can go walking to all the restaurants and bars as well as butcher, fish shop, grocery store and boutiques. The different beaches are only in between 3 and 5 km distance and you can also use a summer bus service to the 3 most charming bays: Sa Tuna, Sa Riera and Aiguablava. There are as well several Golf Courses near by. Restaurants: If you prefer a garden restaurant to go with children, La Pizzeta is recomended. Apart from pizza, it has a variety of different dishes on offer and is open from 7.30 pm.  Owing to its popularity, you may have to book, 2 days in advance.  Another is El Pati Blau with a pleasant outside terrace and serves good fish and steaks. On a cooler day Turandot is a pretty plaace with excelent food. My own favourite is a small Restaurant called Can Climent Platillos with only 6 or 7 tables, where, apart from the fresh foix, tunfish carpatio with Wasabi icecream or translucent lasaña w¡th ceps, lots of other delicious creations are served an other new one is Café Begur next to the church. o Begur belong several small bays all in between 10 to 15 min. drive from the village: Aiguablava, Sa Riera and Sa Tuna, an unspoiled, charming, little bay. We love it, particularly in the late afternoon, just to relax perhaps with a beer, letting time go by watching the sea and small boats coming in with the day’s catch, or merely having an evening meal. There are several Restaurants here, but, in my opinion, two of them are perfectly placed with tables a stone’s throw away from the sea. One is Hostal Sa Tuna and the other, Es Furio. The first one is more “chic, haut cuisine” and expensive, the second is reasonable and their selection of charcoal grilled fresh fish is excellent. charcoal and the best rice you can get in the area, is Adela's “arroz a la casuela con bogavante” (a juicy casserole with lobster)

LOCATION

Set in the heart of the Empordà, the town and municipal district of Begur make up one of the most wonderful parts of the Costa Brava. Nestling between the Gavarres hills and the most beautiful part of this coastline, the village of Esclanyà and the small coves of Begur make up an unequalled physical setting.

BEACHES

Aiguablava, Aiguafreda, Fornells, Illa Roja, Platja Fonda, Platja del Racó, Sa Riera and Sa Tuna are uniquely beautiful coves that make up the Begur coastline: tiny beaches with crystal-clear waters, surrounded by splendid vegetation and cliffs yet with good accesses. The excellent tourism and services infrastructures and the possibility of enjoying the area all year round, thanks to the Mediterranean climate, make this a truly exceptional spot.

GENERAL INFORMATION

What to see and where to go:

We love Sa Tuna, particularly in the late afternoon, just to relax perhaps with a beer, letting time go by watching the sea and small boats coming in with the day’s catch, or merely having an evening meal.

(My favourite is the “llobarro a la brasa” sea bass prepared on charcoal fire), and the best rice you can get in the area, is Adela's “arroz a la casuela con bogavante” (a juicy rice casserole with lobster) and she has free WIFI connection .

Tamariu is an other pintoresc bay with a small diving centre, where you can also hire different kind of boats (Paco Boats TEL: +34 607 292 578 - +34 627 919 165). Alternatively, in the late afternoon we recommend a walk through Llafranc, located on the coast some 15 minute drive away, with its picturesque bay and marina.

Equally beautiful is Calella a 10 minute walk or 3 minute drive from Llafranc.

Please note, although we are recommending these and other places and restaurants, we do not benefit financially from any of them.  In fact, we have gathered a lot of experience from living for more than 40 years in the area, which we are happy to share with you.

Other places further afield from Begur (less than 15 Km):

Pals. This is a beautiful small mediaeval town which has been carefully renovated. It is very nice to see.

Peratallada.  Similar to Pals, not so big and well kept.  It has many restaurants, but we recommend the oldest and by far the best, Can Bonay.  There are, of course, others where you can sit outside in a lovely garden, so it is worth while walking around exploring the village.

Canapost: Only one thing deserves to visit this place is a small Romanic church. It just after is very close to Peratallada. Everybody go to Peretallada and most of them miss to visit Canapost just 3 Km away.

Ullastret: This small village, very close to Canapost and Peratallada, and deserves a visit, if for nothing else, to buy “recuit”, which you will find in Nuri's small dairy shop and other

goat and sheep cheeses, IRecuit is not easy to explain, but I would say, it is close to fresh cottage cheese, although somehow different.  We have it as a dessert with honey, or candied figs, which you can also buy at Nuri’s.

Nearby, but on the other side of the village is an archaeological site.

La Bisbal: Is known for his pottery sand antic shops. Monells a little further is an other very old village near by. The Rincon del Rector is a cosy Restaurant specialised in Cotfish

Further, which should be a must is Figueres (55 minutes drive from our house) with the Salvador Dali Museum. Very interesting. Might be to combine the excursion with a lunch at the Restaurant Can Duran.

On the way back ou may be interested to visit the Manor House in Pubol, where Dali’s wife, Gala, spent the last years of her life.
