My father bought the cottage in 1979 when he retired from farming and lived in it till 2008. It was and still is a family house, used for family holidays and when available is let to cover some of its costs. A Victorian terrace, in the heart of Manorbier, 5 miles west of Tenby. It has a garden with a locked door onto a back lane and storage facilities for surf boards, wet suits, etc. During 2009 it was entirely refurbished, including building on an architect designed kitchen/diner/sitting room ideal for holiday living. The area has a mass of beaches including Manorbier which is a 2 - 3 minute walk. There are many places to visit from castles, islands and interesting old houses to magnificent cliff walks (the coast path goes across the beach), stacks covered in sea birds, cliff chapels, the Presceli Mountains and St. David's Cathedral. Fishing can be arranged not far away, either coarse or fly fishing whichever appeals. The village has a cafe, castle, post office, pub and hotel.

Notes on accommodation
The cottage has been designed for holidays. The kitchen/diner/sitting room has a user friendly floor entirely suitable for small children, looks like wood but is in fact Karndean (like Amtico), the rest of the cottage has rugs and painted floors, apart from the bathroom/shower rooms which are tiled. There is a terrace just outside the kitchen/diner/sitting room french doors & lawn beyond that. The garden is a terraced cottage garden, not described in acres, but is pretty with borders and lawn. It is expected that most people staying there will spend far more time on the beach or coastal paths rather than in the garden but it is a very pleasant place to sit in between activities.
Accessibility
The cottage has a staircase up to three of the bedrooms but the fourth is on the ground floor. There is a step up from the parking space outside to the front door and a small step from the hall into the wet room. Also from the terrace onto the lawn is a step and many steps down to the store room at the bottom of the garden and the back gate.
Outside
Garden is mentioned above, it is not huge but very pleasant with a patio with attractive metal table and 4 chairs, & we have further deck chairs & directors chairs around for garden use in fine weather. There is a barbecue.
There is parking for one (up to the largest type) car outside the front door and parking in the village for further cars.
Coast/Beach
Manorbier beach is 2 - 3 minutes walk from the cottage. It is a good surfing beach and has interest for all ages. Mainly sandy but with a mass of rock pools for children looking for crabs etc., and a freshwater stream for making dams. Full of entertainment. There are masses of beaches within a 10 mile radius of the cottage.
Golf
There are details about golf courses in the cottage with telephone numbers, etc. and on the owners website (see link below). Tenby (5 miles) has 2, which are the nearest, and there are many others around the county.
Travel
There is a station in Manorbier on the main line from Cardiff to Pembroke Dock (and on to Ireland).
Distances
Manorbier village, in the centre of which is the cottage, is 5 miles west of Tenby on the southern edge of the Pembrokeshire Coast. The cottage is in the Conservation Area & the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The Coastal Path runs across the beach and the cliffs are awe inspiring. Barafundle Beach which is about 7 miles away by car & a walk has been much written up as the most unspoilt beach in the UK
Further details
Manorbier village has a very good Londis Shop/Post Office, and there is a very good cafe next door to the cottage. Manorbier Castle has a tea shop & it is very interesting to go round. There is a list of restaurants in the tenants book and details of supermarkets and places of interest on the owners website (see link below) and in the tenants book in the cottage.

Owner profile
About the owner
I was brought up in Pembrokeshire, my father farmed part of the Stackpole Estate in the days when it was owned by the Cawdor Family. My sister and I had a wonderful childhood spent mostly on ponies or on a beach. Carew Cottage was bought by my parents in 1978 when my father retired from farming and was lived in by them until 2008. It was completely refurbished last summer finishing in November 09. It was great fun to do and I hope I have succeeded in making it comfortable, attractive and practical for holidays, although it is still very much a family house. It's let in order to defray some of its running costs. I visit regularly, love the coastline and sea, they lift the soul. I always take my dogs with me and find Pembrokeshire tranquil and a good place to charge the batteries.
Year purchased: 1970's
Why the owner chose a home in this location
My parents bought this cottage when my father retired from farming near Stackpole in 1970. My mother died in 2006 and my father took himself off to a local nursing home in 2008. By this time my sister and I owned the cottage. She lives in Pembrokeshire so I bought her out and completely refurbished the cottage finishing in November 2009. I was brought up in Pembrokeshire and although I live in rural Wiltshire I love the sea and walking the coastal paths. It isn't too far to drive (we did have a house in south west France and that was a very long way). Manorbier is in a nice village with a good community feel, it has a wonderful castle, good beach for surfing and a mass of rock pools for small children. There is an excellent village shop/post office, cafe, pub, hotel, and a church.
Unique benefits of the property
The village of Manorbier is only 5 miles from Tenby, which has a beautiful harbour and a mass of activities can be arranged from there - for example boat trips to Caldy Island (where there is an old monastery and ancient ruins), dolphins sometimes play round the boat on the way. There is a mass of information in the cottage about local entertainment and activities. Because of Milford Haven, which divides the County into two, you are never far away from the sea or a river, the landscape inland from the coast is as beautiful as the coastline, though perhaps not as dramatic. The new room created by knocking down the old kitchens at the back of the house does make a wonderful light family space, and the small original sitting room means there is a lovely quiet space for reading.
