The plan of the land belonging to Penygraig can be seen in the 'Welcome' notes provided at the house. This would in no way affect your total privacy and could be an advantage should you need information/repairs/emergencies etc.

The Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire coastlines are legendary in their beauty, sandy beaches and varied places of interest from the coves and cliffs of the Gower Peninsular to the land speed record beach of Pendine Sand; from the picturesque village of Laugharne, the home of Dylan Thomas to St David's Head and its magnificent Cathedral and ruined abbey. As the roads are good, all are within reasonably easy reach by car.

Roads in this part of Wales are good and comparatively empty you would be unlucky to meet a traffic jam (watch your speed though - stray sheep, ponies and portable speed cameras strategically placed!)

Llandeilo and Llandovery (10 miles).
Carmarthen and Brecon (24 miles).

Further details
(Approx distances given below are from Penygraig). Local walking or cycling, the road past the turning to the cottage is a dead end onto the Black Mountain (2.5 miles) where you can roam for miles. Or take the road opposite the turn to the cottage and in 4 miles you will come to Llyn-y-Fan-Fach the lake which holds the secret of the magical tale of the Lady of the Lake. For fauna, wildlife abounds as do birds from the very small to the large gliding buzzards, red-kites and black croaking ravens. At The Llanddeusant Red Kite Feeding station (3 mls) you can experience daily (summer 3.0pm, winter 2.0pm) the spectacular sight of some 50 of these majestic birds circling in the air and swooping for their dinner. For flora, Carmarthenshire is the home of the National Botanic Garden of Wales (12 mls) and The Great Glasshouse one of the largest single span glasshouses in the world. Designed by Norman Foster, this astonishing construction protects an impressive array of beautiful and exotic plants. Nearby is the romantic folly of Paxton Tower and just beyond Aberglasney House and Garden, at Llangethan (12 mls) with a great shop. An interesting National Trust property is Dynefwr Park and Castle, Llandeilo (10 miles) with an attractive herd of rare White Park Cattle with huge horns and shiny black noses. If you enjoy exploring ruined castle then the breathtakingly spectacular Carreg Cennen Castle (8 mls) is an absolute must . Other varied entertainments available in the area: The Dolaucothi Gold Mines, Pumsaint, Llanwrda (15 mls). The Chocolate Factory, Fforestfach, Swansea, (20 mls).
Folly Farm and Adventure Park and Zoo, Kilgetty, Pembs (40 mls).
Big Pit, Blaenavon, UNESCO World Heritage Site (47 mls) (6 mls south of Abergavenny) in our view exciting and thought provoking entertainment, brilliantly presented. Cinema with latest films - over the Black Mountain at Brynamen (under 8 mls) the village also has a good choice of take-aways.

Owner profile

Year purchased: 2004

Why the owner chose a home in this location
When we retired my husband wanted to live in Spain, but we did not want to loose a foothold in the United Kingdom. We were fortunate to be able to buy this gem of a little house in West Wales privately. We loved it on sight - but buying was not plain sailing - on "exchange day" and the previous owners suddenly said they could not bear to part with it! Imagine our disappointment, but we couldn't really blame them! The silver lining was sometime later, the circumstances of those owners changed and they were thoughtful enough to come straight to us with the offer to "make amends" - and so we have had the pleasure and fun of owning this unique property for the past six years! We hope that when you are here you enjoy it as much as we do.
