A few minutes from Vouvant holiday cottages is the Marais Poitevin, which is a large expanse of protected wetland and forest. It’s popular for its rivers and canals, which can be navigated by boat. There is some truly unspoiled natural scenery tucked away in the park. Ten kilometres south of self-catering accommodation in Vouvant is the historic Town of Fontenay-le-Comte, which served as the capital of the entire Vendee department for a period in the late-18th Century. Clues to this former prestige can still be seen in the town’s magnificent architecture. The beautiful Atlantic coast is just an hour away from gites in Vouvant, and boasts some vibrant resorts, full of things to see and do. La Faute-sur-Mer and Les Sables-d’Olonne are well worth investigating – here you can even take your tentative first steps at a surfboard thanks to the excellent local school.

Best Time to Visit
The Puy du Fou theme park, only half an hour from farmhouses in Vouvant, is a wonderful summer attraction. The evening shows at this time of year are very well produced with trained actors and stuntmen.
