Built nine years ago, our home is located in a quiet residential area of the city of St Petersburg. This attractive city is a revelation to first-time visitors, with its upmarket, spacious centre the home to many museums, restaurants and attractions. With the best beaches in the state only 15 minutes away by car, and the major theme parks just over an hour's drive, St Pete offers a genuine Florida experience without the tourists! However, with high speed internet, a PlayStation, large gardens and a private swimming pool, you won't be bored if you never leave its four walls. We have welcomed numerous families to the house in the past few years and have yet to have anything other than glowing feedback.

Notes on accommodation
Please note that we do not permit smoking inside the property.
Accessibility
The ground floor to our property is all on one level and includes the second double bedroom. There is a small step up to the front door.
Outside
The garden includes a private swimming pool. The pool is a dipping pool rather than lap pool but was created with children in mind and has a 4ft shallow end and wide steps. There are spa jets and underwater lighting. The house is usually accessed via the long driveway and double garage. Adult and child bicycles are provided as are a variety of balls, swimming accessories and lilos. There is a large wooden deck adjacent to the house for sunbathing, table and chairs for dining and a number of sun beds. We have recently purchased a swing seat that provides shade and comfort. There is a gas barbecue, and enough space to kick or throw a football and baseball if you are so inclined.
Coast/Beach
The beautiful beaches at Fort de Soto and Caladesi are a 20 to 25 minute drive away and must be seen. St Pete Beach, with its miles of sand, is separate from the city but is also worth visiting: turn left at the famous Don Cesar hotel for good food and peace and quiet; right for the 'strip' and the tourist hub of John's Pass, from where we recommend you visit Don's Dock if you wish to hire a fishing boat.
Golf
There are several golf courses within forty minutes drive. The closest is an excellent municipal course with driving range and par 3 course which is ideal for a relaxed holiday round.
Travel
Tampa International Airport is only a 25 minute to half hour drive. Fly direct from Gatwick on BA, hire a car and you can be walking through the front door an hour or so after landing. It's ideal after the 9 hour flight.
Distances
The city of St Petersburg is a five minute drive from the house, but beautiful Coffee Pot Boulevard with its manatees, dolphins and amazing birds is a short bike ride or jog away. Then stroll along the bayou into the city, past the city beach, huge municipal swimming pool and tennis courts, and you'll never want to go to Orlando again. But if theme parks are your thing, Busch Gardens, with shorter queues and better rides than Disney, is 35 minutes from the house.
Further details
There are many supermarkets just a couple of minutes from the house, including a couple of huge Publix and a Sweet Bay at the end of the road. All of the main local streets are lined with the usual suspects - McDonalds, Starbucks etc - but it's the smaller specialist restaurants that we prefer. The Sushi Rock Grill serves unbeatable sushi, while there are so many other top eateries that we can't list them here. A particular highlight in the city is the Saturday morning market in the shadow of Al Lang Field, which features local produce and art and is the perfect way to sample the slightly bohemian heart of St Pete's. With its parks, peaceful centre and harbour, it is a most unusual American city. There's a large cinema and you can often find surprisingly high profile bands and artists playing at the small, outdoor Jannus Landing. If you love sport, the Tampa Bay Rays play baseball in St Petersburg's Tropicana Field, with the Yankees and Red Sox frequent visitors. In nearby Tampa, the Buccaneers play football and the Lightning play ice hockey. We often find ourselves in one of the many local parks, playing football (of either kind) and baseball. Tampa boasts great shopping at International Plaza, where the wealthy and beautiful congregate. There are several other local malls and a popular outlet centre in Ellenton. Tampa has a reputation of something of a good time town, with Ybor City a unique Cuban-flavoured party district. If it's nightlife you're after, St Petersburg has some great bars, but Tampa is the place to be if your nights, not days are the priority.

Owner profile
That's Florida twilight...
About the owner
We are a family of four from Hertfordshire who bought the house off plan in 2003, and have visited every year since. We had never intended to holiday there every year, but our two young children have no inclination to go anywhere else!
If there's anything you would like to know about the house, get in touch and we'll be more than happy to tell you whatever we can.
Year purchased: 2003
Why the owner chose a home in this location
We bought in St Petersburg because the opportunity presented itself in the form of a friend who develops property in the area. Some other trusted friends said the city was the best in Florida. We agree!
Unique benefits of the property
The house is situated in a quiet suburban area, and really feels like a home from home. There are no other tourists nearby, at least not Europeans, and we love the sense of community. Our neighbours are lovely and we are always made to feel welcome by the people we have got to know in the area. We never cycle or jog at home; here it's part of the routine.
Proximity to the airport is important, although the superb beaches and warm Gulf waters more so. And we'll never tire of watching the dolphins and manatees as we stroll along Coffee Pot Boulevard on a calm, warm sunny morning.
