There will be a bottle of water, packet of milk, some tea bags, coffee sachets and a packet of biscuits in the apartment to get you started before you can get to the supermarket-which thankfully is literally only a couple of minutes walk away.
Accessibility
Please note that Kalkan is built on a steep slope.
Outside
There is a swimming pool shared amongst the 3 apartments. There are very few apartments in the Old Town that have a swimming pool. The pool is approximately 6m x 5m with a shallow end. Although shared, the 2 apartments below are owned by a Turkish family and they rarely ever use the pool. There is also a barbecue that can be used on the top sun terrace.
Coast/Beach
Kalkan itself has an attractive pebble beach that is only a 5 mins stroll away.
Patara Beach, often renowned as one of the world's best beaches is about only a 25 mins drive away - you can go by taxi or use the cheap and regular Dolmus service.
You can also go on gulet trips from Kalkan harbour and there are also many beach clubs nearby, accessed by free taxi services from the harbour.
Travel
Kalkan is reached via Dalaman airport in about 1 hour 30 mins
Our managing agents ABI travel will collect you in one of their modern cars/minibuses if you so require at an extra cost. We can help you to arrange this transfer directly with them or arrange it yourselves with pleasure. Dalaman is serviced by most airlines from the UK (most charter companies plus Onur Airways, Monarch, Easyjet etc), operating from most regional airports. Car Hire is not essential as it is a short walk into town.
Distances
Kalkan is at the very heart of ancient Lycia and as such many historical sites are close by, including Sakklikent, Xanthos, Letoon, Pinara, Tlos and Patara. Kekova, Demre, Myra, Phaselis, Olympos and Aspendos are also within reach, as are the attractive harbour towns of Fethiye (less than 1 hour away) and Kas (reached easily by taxi or Dolmus). The historical ghost village of Kaya (Greek ghost town, subject of Louis de Berniere's 'Birds without Wings') is also worth a visit.
Further details
Kalkan is a small fishing village with steep winding cobbled streets and alleyways. The ancient old town retains its original character, surrounded by the awesome Taurus mountains. At its centre lies the harbour with a mix of local fishing craft and visiting yachts.
The village is full of restaurants, boutiques and bars. Here you will find venues and menus to suit all pockets and tastes. These are situated along the winding cobbled streets that lead down to the harbour and on the harbour front. Many have roof terraces offering excellent views over the sea. A wonderful evening can be enjoyed in a relaxing ambience soaking up the atmosphere of the village at night. There is an air of elegant sophistication interspersed with oodles of Turkish charm and tradition. There is a traditional weekly Thursday market which is a feast for the senses. It is a tranquil holiday where you may dip into the buzz of the village and surrounding areas as and when you please.
When entering Turkey at the Airport you will need to buy a Visa which is a quick and simple procedure jst before passport control. However they only accept cash so please ensure you bring sterling with you. The price for a UK Passport has been £10 per person (including children) (€15 for EU Countries) for some time but please check the current price before you travel-just google visa prices for Turkey.
Booking notes
A £100 per week deposit is required to secure the booking. The balance is payable 8 weeks prior to arrival.

Just to let you know we have now returned from our holiday in Kalkan and would like to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay in Yilmaz Manzara.
Our expectations were exceeded in every way, the location is perfect and amazingly quiet given it’s central location. It is by far the best apartment we have ever rented, the space and quality of furnishings is excellent.

Owner profile
About the owner
Louise and I have been married 23 years and have twin daughters who are 19 years old-and still will come with us to Kalkan on holiday!
Year purchased: 2006
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
The shortened version of a long story is that we bought our apartment 3 days after arriving in Kalkan and it was the first one we saw that we bought-everything you shouldn't do-but we have never regretted it for one minute. The reasons we bought it are many but the usual property rules of Location Location Location applied here. Kalkan is built on a steep slope and we didn't want to be 15 minutes away from the town centre-and the Yilmaz Manzara is very centrally positioned in the old town. This plus the sensational views over the harbour plus the fact it is so quiet for somewhere so central made our decision making very easy. We still get the same excitement every time we return.
Unique benefits of the property
Kalkan is just a magical place with a unique atmosphere. The people are just wonderful, helpful and friendly with great command of the English language and the restaurants (of which there are a huge number for such a sized town) are amazing-fantastic fresh foods at reasonable prices. We are a vegetarian family and this is the only country we know of where we are really spoilt for choice. We do not regard the Yilmaz Manzara as a rental property, but more as our home in Turkey that we rent out (at hopefully reasonable prices) for others to enjoy too. It is simply and comfortably furnished with everything you should need for a great holiday in a wonderful resort.
