In the heart of the old part of Kalkan this charming British owned house is just minutes away from the villages shops and restaurants and a minute from Kalkan beach. Built in the traditional style of the formerly Greek houses, its whitewashed walls are offset with climbing bougainvillea, wooden balconies and wooden shutters. The delightful walled garden backs onto a small square shaded by mulberry trees. From the highly sought after rooftop terrace there are wonderful views over the bay with mouse and snake islands in the distance. The house is simply but tastefully decorated, and is fully air-conditioned. Kalkan is situated east of Dalaman airport between the towns of Fethiye and Kas, and is one of Turkeys more sophisticated resorts. Built around an ancient Greek/Turkish harbor on the beautiful turquoise coast, this small town has developed to provide everything needed by the modern tourist without losing its charm.

Outside
The small paved garden surrounded by its whitewashed wall is charming and unusual for the heart of old Kalkan. There is a large calico umbrella, and table and chairs. There are extra folding tables and chairs. There are also some sun loungers. The garden door backs onto a small square shaded by mulberry trees, and is home to several Kalkan families who still reside in the area, and are sometimes to be found sitting on rugs picnicing or drinking tea. We often take our deck chairs out there for a peaceful shady read or snooze!

Coast/Beach
There are many beaches around Kalkan. Its own beach is pebbly and very clean and well kept. Daily boat trips on the pretty gulets are a must with swimming and snorkeling stops off beautiful islands and the rocky coastline. A wonderful on board lunch is included in the price. The famous Patara beach with its 18 kilometers of white sand backing onto dunes and fascinating archaelogical ruins is 20 mins by car. Smaller Kaputas beach, a golden sandy cove is only 10 minutes from Kalkan by car.

Travel
The nearest airport is Dalaman, 1.5 hours drive from Kalan. Transfers can be arranged. Antalya airport is 2.5 hours drive.
We don't recommned car hire as Kalkan is so easy to get around and it is probably easier to hire a taxi for the day for sightseeing. It is also easy to hire a self drive car for the day - or few days - from Kalkan. Also there are motobikes and scooters for hire.

Distances
Fetiye, a delightful harbour town with a vast number of shops and restaurants and in easy reach of Olu Deniz (the blue lagoon), Kaya Koy (the ghost town) and Lycian tombs is 45 minutes away. Historical sights such as Patara, Xanthos and Letoon are all within 1/2 hr drive, and Myra ia 1 hr away. The sunken city of Kekova is 1 hour away or 2 by boat. Saklikent gorge is 45 minutes away.

Further details
There are small supermarkets at the top of the village, 5 mins walk but a local grocers 1 min from the house. There are numerous bars and restaraunts, of which our recommendations are on a list in the house. The food in our experience is often outstanding. The shops are quaint selling Turkish carpets, leather, spices, opttery, gold and silver jewellery and much more. There is a weekly market selling all sorts of goods - clothes, fabrics, shoes household ware, food and much more. Nature lovers will find many walks (including the famous Lycian Way) in the vicinity. Farming surrounds the area and a meal in the local trout restaurants set high in the mountains should not be missed. For the teenagers there is a vibrant bar sene, with a couple of small outdoor discos.
