Yesil Ev - the yellow house from the green house
|
|
Yesil Ev has three cottages set in a glorious garden about 15 minutes walk through fields from the sea. Each cottage sleeps up to four people so overall holiday groups of up to 12 can be accommodated. Only 35km from Marmaris, the mountain road and conservation status keeps this village undeveloped. There is a weekly market, small provision stores and a variety of restaurants. The lush gardens are communal, but with secluded areas for each property. There is a central permanent barbecue and garden seating areas. There is no pool, for environmental reasons. The sea however is unpolluted with many secluded rocky beaches. We own a traditional fishing boat for trips around the bay to swim and picnic.

Notes on accommodation
The cottages can be booked individually or by groups of up to 6 adults and 6 children. Each house was built to accommodate two adults and two children. There is no TV, but there are good mobile phone signals and there is internet access at the waterfront restaurant. Since the beginning Yesil Ev has set out to have minimum impact on the environment and maximum impact on the local economy. A local architect rebuilt the cottages from abandoned traditional stone dwellings in 1992, using local labour and materials. The furniture and furnishings were all made by village craftsmen and women in the traditional way. There is no swimming pool at the cottages, water and waste are recycled, and hot water provided by solar panels. The local economy is supported by using local restaurants, transport and suppliers, and employing local people. There is a fourth house in the group occupied by the owner.
Accessibility
The properties are not adapted for wheelchair use and have steps. The local terrain is rough underfoot but vehicles can access the waterfront and park easily.
Outside
The lush gardens are communal, but with secluded areas for each property. There is a central permanent barbecue and garden seating areas. There is no pool, as already stated, for environmental reasons. The sea however is unpolluted with many secluded rocky beaches. We own a traditional fishing boat for trips around the bay to swim and picnic.
Coast/Beach
It takes about 15 minutes to walk on footpaths through the fields to the beach and a bit longer coming back as it is up hill. There is a road which takes a much longer route, but is only a couple of minutes by car. There is a small beach equipped with sun loungers, a jetty for yachts, gulets and fishing boats including the 'Mavi Deniz' owned by the cottages. The coast is rocky and accessed by footpath or boat, with secluded places to swim and sunbathe.
Travel
Dalaman is the nearest airport. On the self catering and rental only basis transfer and/or car hire must be arranged and paid for separately. Car hire is not essential as taxi transfer can be arranged from the airport and there are four daily buses from the village to Marmaris which pick up and drop off at the cottages.
Distances
Sogut is 35km over the mountains from Marmaris. The small town of Bozburun, well known for its yacht harbour is 5km away.
Further details
Sogut 'parish' consists of three villages spread over a wide area. The centre with the Monday market, post office and mosque is a steep half hour walk away, but there is a small shop and cafe two or three minutes from the cottages, as well as at the waterfront jetty. Around the headland is another settlement on short stretch of beach with more restaurants and pensions, and on the mountain top a primitive farming village, a deserted village and several ruined a ruined Hellenic cities.
