Exquisite top-floor apartment within magical Patara Prince resort. 'Nothing short of a seaside paradise' (Frommers Guide). With stunning sea and Kalkan views from the private, bougainvillea-swathed balcony, inside, the apartment boasts an irresistible combination of character features and all mod-cons. Designed by one of Turkey’s top architects and constructed on white, local stone terraces leading down to the Mediterranean, you won’t believe how beautiful Patara Prince resort is, even when you’re there! Situated 1km across the bay from Kalkan (recommended by the Independent as a destination of choice, especially for those seeking a romantic vacation) amid abundant tropical gardens, and giving direct access to the sea, Patara Prince resort is unrivalled in this part of the Mediterranean for style and elegance. '...imagine yourself on the Côte d’Azur without the pretentiousness. Drive along the mountain-backed road to Kas, and you might be touring the Amalfi coast.' The Times.

A free shuttle service runs up and down the resort every few minutes. (Not all facilities available in low season.) There is also a water taxi which for £2 will ferry you across the bay to Kalkan. The resort is holiday home to international politicians and celebrities and you can also feel safe in the knowledge that there is 24-hour security.

Coast/Beach
You can access the sea from the resort via sea platforms. There is a beach in Kalkan 1 km away and another about 5 km away at Kaputas but 10 miles away there's one of the longest sandy beaches to be found anywhere in the Mediterranean, Patara (after which the resort is named and indeed modelled). Guarded by a ruined Roman city and a stunning 18km in length, Patara beach has recently been featured on BBC1 Holiday and topped the Evening Standard's list of 10 Fantastic Summer Beaches!

Special interest holidays
The Lycian Way, one of only two long-distance footpaths in Turkey passes through Kalkan and Kas as well as many ancient sites on its spectacular route through the mountains and along the coastline of south-west Turkey, following the line of Roman and Ottoman roads, mule tracks and nomad trails. Come in spring and autumn when the temperatures are pleasant for walking and the sea warm enough to swim, or winter is also excellent as days are often sunny and warm and the snow-covered peaks of the Taurus mountains form an impressive backdrop.

Travel
Fly to Dalaman about 75 miles away (we recommend charterflights, travelsupermarket, flightline - please contact us for a fuller list). From the airport you can either hire a car from companies like SIXT or Europcar or we can arrange transfers for you at last year's prices. A car, though useful, is not essential as public transport is plentiful in this part of Turkey and remarkably good value - 3YTL (£1) will take you all 12 miles along the glorious road to Kas.

Distances
Kas, about 12 miles away, is the nearest small town and the spectacular journey from Kalkan has been listed as one of the 10 most beautiful coastal drives in the world. Greece comes right up to the Turkish mainland here as Kastellorizo, the most easterly of all the Greek Islands – and the setting for Best Foreign Language film, Mediterraneo – sits practically in the harbour at Kas and within a mile and a half of the shore. Take a glorious daytrip from Kas which will cost you only 12 euros.

Further details
There is a shop very close by on the resort which sells all the essentials you're likely to need. Supermarkets in Kalkan also offer a delivery service. Kalkan is a small picturesque village and where there is a roof there is a restaurant. Competition has made the town a gastronomic treat and if you’ve tried all the restaurants on the resort already – there are 3 serving everything from pizza to Turkish and Mediterranean specialties - there are more than 40 restaurants in Kalkan. Our favourite is Adem's restaurant and if you eat there you'll get 10% discount. Kalkan has several small shops and boutiques selling clothes, jewellery, leather goods and pottery as well as a good local market on Thursdays. But for a really big market, don't miss out on Fethiye (every Tuesday).

Founded by Greek traders from the nearby island of Kastellorizo 200 years ago and Greek-populated until 1921, Kalkan and nearby town Kas are both renowned for their Greek architecture – wooden balconies, bougainvillea etc. Greece’s proximity makes it possible to make a stay here a two-country holiday as from Fethiye, 45 miles away, hydrofoils make the 1½ hour crossing to Rhodes (an official entry point into Greece) every weekday in summer too. In ancient, pre-Roman times, the Turquoise Coast from Fethiye round to almost Antalya, was known as Lycia (Land of Light). The Lycians’ many monuments still dot the entire landscape of the south-west coast of Turkey and the ruins close by at UNESCO World Heritage site, Xanthos are a must. Visit Letoon, where Alexander the Great received the prophecy he'd conquer Persia and the sunken city at Kekova, reachable only by boat either from Kas or Ucagiz.

Guest comments
'We found the apartment, resort, Kalkan and Turkey absolutely wonderful! Such a different country and culture and food to die for! The apartment was excellent in every way and we loved our time there.' Lee and Jo, Essex
'The apartments well furnished and blessed with air-conditioning in bedroom and lounge which in such high temperatures was really important, each time we entered we breathed a sigh of relief. The bedroom was cool and had plenty of storage space and a comfortable extra big bed. The sea view from the balcony was lovely at any time of day and we sat outside a great deal. The apartment was situated at the top of the complex and the best pool and supermarket was behind the apartment just across a little road. Would recommend without hesitation, we had a lovely holiday.' Lorna and family, Surrey.
'Really nice outlook over the bay. Good location on the resort with plenty of places to eat close by. Shop 2 mins walk away so self-catering really is feasible.' George, St Ive.
