Barinak is a spacious, luxury villa which has been fitted and furnished to a very high standard. It is situated on the outskirts of Kalkan, a charming, unspoilt town on Turkey's Mediterranean coast. The 3 large bedrooms are all en-suite and have access to one of two verandas with fabulous views. The roof terrace has an inviting ottoman area with its own mini kitchen. The villa is air-conditioned throughout and insect screens are fitted to windows and doors. Wireless internet is available in the villa. There is a sun trap patio with plants and trees, dining area with ceiling fan, sun loungers and parasols, situated around the private pool. The villa is sited at the front of a small private development of villas and apartments. Its slightly elevated position allows fabulous views of 2 bays and surrounding hills.

Notes on accommodation
The air conditioning units also double as heaters for the cooler months, plus there is a Turkish wood burning stove. There are insect screens fitted to some windows and doors, as well as repellent devices and mosquito nets over the beds. 24 hour security and maintenance services are included. A member of staff will be on hand to greet you, regardless of your time of arrival.

Accessibility
There is a steep road up to the complex from the Kalamar Road, however another road off to the right of the complex, leading towards the Market Road, is more level for walking.

Outside
Private patio with plants and trees, barbecue, sun loungers, tables, chairs, parasols. There is a ceiling fan fitted above the outdoor dining area, plus there is a freestanding fan for use on the roof terrace. Private pool dimensions are approximately 7m x 4.5m x 1.65m deep. Weber BBQ.

Coast/Beach
A pretty pebble beach near the harbour is a 15 min walk away. Super 'beach clubs' which have been built into the rocks are a 5 minute drive away, with free transport. They have loungers, parasols, showers & snack bar, & direct access into the clear, clean waters. Water sports are also available. Kaputas' sandy beach is sited at the bottom of a gorge and is a short drive or boat ride from Kalkan. The acclaimed Patara beach is 18km long and is about 15 minutes away by car.

Travel
Dalaman airport is 90 mins from Kalkan. Car hire is not essential as the villa is walking distance to Kalkan's centre, plus taxi fares are reasonable and public transport is good. Many tourist sites can be accessed by dolmus and numerous excursions depart from Kalkan by coach or boat. If, however you desire the freedom to come and go where you please, then car hire is available in Kalkan at reasonable rates.

Further details
There is a small food shop 2 min walk down the road for all necessary provisions, with larger supermarkets in the centre of Kalkan. Some offer free delivery service. The banks and post office will change travellers cheques and the banks have ATMs dispensing Turkish Lire and Euros. Sterling is a welcome currency in shops and restaurants. There are over 100 small restaurants serving an eclectic mix of dishes, including many vegetarian. Many have roof terraces with spectacular views. Food is freshly prepared and several establishments offer live music, including classical, jazz and traditional Turkish. Water activities such as scuba diving, jet skis and water skiing are available in Kalkan. There is a large weekly market where you haggle for the best price for goods such as spices, leather, jewellery, linens and backgammon sets, as well as fresh produce. Kalkan also has a good selection of shops, selling everything from painted china to DVDs. Places to visit and activities include Patara, home of St Nicholas (Father Christmas); Dalyan Delta for mud baths, a trip down the river where they filmed The African Queen and to see the ancient rock tombs; all-day canoe trip down Xanthos River; jeep safari into the mountains; all-day boat trip to see the Sunken City and sea turtles.

Booking notes
A 20% non-refundable deposit is required to secure booking, with balance payable no later than 8 weeks prior to departure. Prices are for renting the villa per week and do not include flights, travel insurance, transfers or car hire (although car hire and transfers can be arranged upon request and paid locally). A refundable security deposit of £200 is required.

Guest comments
we visited the villa at the end of June as a group of friends, the weather was perfect and the villa suited our needs brilliantly.The villa is a great size and good layout with outside space off all the bedrooms, with a lovely Ottoman area off the top floor which has fab views of both Kalkan and Kalamar bays - perfect for pre/post dinner drinks!! The pool is vital and gets the sun for most of the day and has plenty of loungers around the edge. We rented a car from Enes car rental which is 2 mins down the road from the villa which I would recommend as although the villa is walk-able to the town it is nice to have the flexibility a car offers, particularly as you can park wherever you like in Kalkan without paying. This was our first trip to Kalkan in about 10 years and we have already booked to come back to the villa next year as we had such a great time. We have already recommended the place to friends who are booking up for next year too! EP June 2010.

About the owner
I now run the villa rentals but alas, no longer own it. My husband and I bought it from new in 2004 and sold it to a lovely lady in March 2010.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
We thought this spot had the best of both worlds, being on the outskirts, it's quiet, yet close enough to walk into the centre. The views, particularly from the upper terraces, are sublime. You can see both bays from the villa. It's easy to find, as it's just off the Kalamar Road and most of the taxi drivers know the Saneil complex. The real bonus is having staff living on the complex, offering 24 hour security.

Unique benefits of the property
We think this property has just about everything! All the bedrooms are sea-facing, with direct access onto 1 of 2 terraces. Being on a small complex, we benefit from a member of staff being on hand 24 hours a day, should you need assistance with anything. The nightwatchman does his rounds every evening, which makes us feel very secure. Sometimes eating outside can get a bit hot, so as well as shade, we provide a ceiling fan. On the roof terrace we've built an authentic and secluded Ottoman area, where you can enjoy spectacular views, whilst sipping a cocktail and reclining on soft cushions. And having a water cooler on tap in the kitchen is a real necessity! And if you're visiting in cooler months, there's a genuine Turkish wood burning stove. The smell of olive wood is fantastic.
