Welcome to Gokceovacik, a charming traditional village in the Taurus mountains just above the Mediterranean coast of southwest Turkey. The village is 20 minutes from the cosmopolitan yachting harbour of Gocek and 40 minutes from Dalaman International Airport. Located on the outskirts of the village in a beautiful and peaceful valley is Yeni Yasam. With its stunning scenery and secluded location - yet within easy reach of beaches, restaurants, shops and archaeological sites - this is an idyllic setting for the discerning visitor.

Accommodation

 

 

Notes on accommodation
A maid service is available as required (included in the cost). We can also provide traditional Turkish meals prepared by our housekeeper (cost of ingredients only). Wireless internet access is available. We usually let the houses together to ensure exclusive use for guests. The rates quoted are for the two properties.

Outside
The house is set in an extensive landscaped garden with a vegetable plot, fruit trees, flower beds and kosk. There is also an ottoman garden with a pavilion, water feature and stone paths through the flower beds. The pool is 11 x 4 metres and 1.5 metres at its deep end 0.5 at the shallow end.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beach is 10km from the property. Further along the coast there are extensive beaches with excellent facilities at Gunluklu, Katranci and Calis, all within a 40 minute drive.

Travel
There are frequent all year round, flights to Dalaman International Airport from many UK airports. Flights take approximately 4 hours. Airport transfers will be arranged from the airport to Yeni Yasam which is 40 minutes away from the airport.

Further details
Away from major tourist centres, this area has retained much of its original charm. There are no multi-storey hotels or apartment blocks, no noisy nightclubs or discos. Yet because of its popularity among the international yachting community, the local town of Gocek is very cosmopolitan. The shops, restaurants and bars cater for European tastes whilst retaining their Turkish character.

You can take a boat trip around beautiful Gocek Bay – the 12 Island Cruise – and eat in one of the delightful restaurants en route, swim in one of the many secluded island coves, see the Lycean tombs, ancient ruins and stunning vistas.

Fethiye is 27km from Gocek. There you will find wide range of shops, banks and supermarkets. The modern town is built around a beautiful bay and close by are the remains of the ancient city of Telmessos. There are impressive tombs dating from c450 BC.

From Fethiye it is a short drive to Kaya – the inspiration for Louis de Berniere’s acclaimed novel ‘Birds Without Wings’. This ancient mountain village has been deserted for over 80 years. It is well worth a visit even if you haven’t read the book.

Dalyan is 40 minutes drive from Gocek. This is a seaside resort that includes the protected Iztuzu Beach, where the endangered Loggerhead turtles lay their eggs. A short boat ride through the river reed beds takes you to the c9th BC fortress of Kaunos and to the impressive Lycean tombs built into the mountainside.

Did you know that there are more Greek and Roman remains in Turkey than in either Greece or Italy?

But most people come to Gokceovacek to unwind and relax, enjoy the magnificent scenery, the eating and drinking and walking. The surrounding mountains are studded with Lycean tombs, unseen from the roads but easily accessible by foot through the pine forests, and the local people are charming, friendly and very hospitable.

Booking notes
A child’s buggy, cot and high chair are available, for which there is no charge.

All lettings are on a Friday-to-Friday basis. Houses must be vacated by noon on the day of departure unless a prior arrangement has been made. A deposit of 25% is payable at the time of booking. The balance is due 6 weeks before your arrival together with a deposit of £200 against potential breakages or damage. The £200 will be returned in full within 2 weeks of your departure minus the cost of any breakage.

The BBQ is stunning and we made good use of it. We were not expecting this spot to be anywhere near as incredible as it actually is. You've done a lovely job on these houses and the gardens and we LOVE the pool! This is one of the most romantic and secluded and quiet places we've ever been and we have travelled plenty! This was our fifth year holidaying in Turkey, so we knew we would like the people and love the weather. What we weren't prepared for though was the idyllic peace and tranquility of Yeni Yasam. Our stay was just perfect. They have managed to incorporate all modern facilities whilst retaining the rustic charm of this Turkish farm house. Its mountainside layout keeps it cool enough. All this plus the remote location suited us perfectly, yet only 10 minutes drive away were the shops and restaurants of Gocek and its beautiful marina.
