The house is one of a pair, the other being kept primarily for the use of the owners. Constructed so that each floor can also be rented as a self contained apartment providing flexible accommodation, the house is popular with adult couples and friends holidaying together. Guests return year after year to this idyllic part of Turkey. Set in a private walled garden, the houses share the large pool and are close to the sea. A car is not necessary as all amenities are within a 15min walk. Guests often choose to rent one for a few days to explore inland. Undiscovered by mass tourism, this stunning region has been declared a special environmental protection area. Sit and enjoy a quiet drink, watching the yachts moor up for the night, as the sun goes down over the mountains, before dining in one of the many restaurants. It is an excellent place for sailing, with a spectacular coastline, small islands and bays. Our 40' sailing yacht 'Sevinc' is available for private skippered charter.

Notes on prices
Prices in UK pounds. Please ask for rates in lira or euros both of which are acceptable. Shorter stays (minimum 3 nights) or periods of eg 10-12 nights can be arranged subject to availability. £50 house (£30 apartment) departure cleaning/laundry charge applies per booking. Rental cost includes house linen,white towels and a weekly clean/ linen change. Guests are kindly asked to bring their own towels for pool and beach use.
Please note that sole use of the ground floor apt carries a supplement.

Changeover day
Flexible changeover days / 4 / 10-12 days can be arranged subject to availability, an ideal arrangement for those combining a visit to another part of Turkey or with a sailing. Normal check in after 15.00, departure 10.00. Alternatives by arrangement.

Yasemin Ev ( Sleeps 6/8 )

House sleeps 6, with 2 double / twin rooms and 2 smaller double bedded rooms, ideal for use as a single. There is an extra double bedroom in the basement which can be made available as a cooler option in the summer. There are 3 shower rooms with WC. Two floors each consist of: large open plan dining/kitchen/living area with log fire, 2 bedrooms, shower/WC. Facilities include a 4 ring hob, kettle, toaster and a fridge/freezer. Beds are of a luxury quality and there is ample storage and hanging space. These 4 bedrooms have air-conditioning. Bathrooms are fully tiled and fitted with a walk in shower with sliding glass doors, toilets with in bowl bidet, wash basin with illuminated mirror, shaving point and hairdryer. The basement provides an additional double bedroom which stays cool, shower/WC, laundry facilities, dishwasher and tall fridge/freezer. The ground floor terrace provides a welcome retreat from the midday sun and space for everyone to dine/relax together.

Apartment

A popular choice for couples, each of the ground/first floor apartments have the same layout and facilities, each 48sq.m providing 1 small double bedroom usually used as a single, and one larger twin / double, shower/WC and living/dining/kitchen area with log fire. Facilities include 4 ring hob, kettle, toaster and a fridge/freezer. There is a large dining table, coffee table and cushioned bamboo seating. Additional storage is provided in the living area of the first floor apartment and a there is small shaded balcony with wooden seats, instead of the larger covered terrace on the ground floor. Both apartments have access to the laundry facilities in the basement. A marble staircase connects each floor. Decoration is in simple traditional Turkish style.

Notes on accommodation
Air-conditioning is provided in the bedrooms only, with the exception of the one in the basement which always remains cool. The property benefits from central heating and log fires for use in the winter months. A travel cot can be made available. We regret that do not have sofa beds and are rarely unable to exceed the max number of guests allowed. Please do not hesitate to ask re extra availability however. Television, CD and DVD players are not provided in order to preserve the peaceful atmosphere. Guests are welcome to bring iPods/portable DVD players for their personal use. Wi fi access available in Gocek. There is an internet cafe, and many bars, cafes and restaurants offer free wi-fi.

Accessibility
The quiet lane from the house is paved and it is a safe and easy 15 minutes leisurely walk to the Marinas and the village centre with all amenities. The secure gated entrance to the garden, is at street level with 3 shallow steps up to the main door and the same up to the terrace overlooking the pool area. There are 2 bedrooms on the ground floor. Steps into the pool are of the ladder type.

Outside
The two houses, share a large private pool 5.5x10.5m and 1.3-1.6 'depth which is equipped with underwater lighting. The pool and garden are maintained daily. Surrounded by terraces, there is ample space for relaxation. Sun loungers, mattresses, and umbrellas are provided. There is an external shower for pool use. Fragrant honeysuckle, together with blue and white jasmine, create a wonderful scent in the early morning and evening, with citrus trees, oleander, hibiscus, roses and colorful begonvil hedging and shrubs providing an array of colour throughout the season. There is a portable barbecue. Safe street parking is located behind the houses.

Coast/Beach
The nearest beaches are situated at Gocek Island, a 20 mins water taxi ride from the town marina. A private beach, it overlooks a quiet and secluded part of the gulf of Gocek. Bathing platform - Upper Deck - reached by boat. Inlice, 10 mins by taxi or car on the Fethiye road, can be reached via the dolmus. Gunluklu and Katranci 15 mins the next bays after Inlice, beautiful small quiet beaches with some facilities. A variety of water sports can be arranged in local bays.

Special interest holidays
Our 40 'sailing yacht' Sevinc can be made available to our guests as a private skippered charter, offering a true' hands-on sailing experience. Available on a daily basis with the option overnight stays in a secluded bay for up to 4 people, this has proved very popular. Please contact us for details. Combined sailing / house accommodation can be arranged.

Travel
The nearest airport is Dalaman 22km. Private or taxi transfers can be arranged to and from the airport. Charter flights are available from most UK regional airports. Guests often choose to combine a stay with a trip to Istanbul - flights are available from here to Dalaman, while some travelling from other parts of Europe fly to Antalya which is a 3 hour drive. The excellent road network is served by dolmus / minibus.

Distances
Nearest mini market (fresh bread and basic provisions) 5 mins walk. Village (restaurants, shops, banks, supermarkets and all essentials): 10-15 mins walk. Marinas/Waterfront 10-15 mins walk. Hammam at Club Marina 10 mins free ferry from Skopea marina. Gocek weekly market: 15 mins walk. Fethiye, bustling market town with weekly bazaar and quaint shops: 40 mins by dolmus/bus. Dalyan, ruins at Caunos, Iztuzu beach: 50 mins drive. Tlos, Saklikent gorge: 60 mins. Kayakoy, deserted village: 50mins.

Further details
Food in Turkey is fresh and seasonal. The locals all have a small plot of land where they grow their own fruit, herbs and vegetables, keep a cow, a few goats, chickens, one or two sheep, bees, and produce milk, butter, cheese, delicious honey, bread, olive oil etc. The weekly market is a must for stocking up on cheap fresh local produce. There are several well stocked mini markets and supermarkets in Gocek all offering a delivery service. Taxis are inexpensive and available from the village square. Eating out is affordable and a real pleasure. There is an excellent selection of restaurants and cafes to read all tastes. The friendly, welcoming hospitality and hardworking nature of the Turkish people is always evident. Major Turkish banks have branches in Gocek and there are several ATM machines. Medical and dental facilities, hairdressing, barber, massage and beauty treatments are available - all excellent. There are many places of historic interest to visit within a day. Further afield, requiring an overnight stay are: Ephesus, Selcuk and the wine producing village of Sirince, Pammukale and its 'cotton castles', the amphitheater at Aspendos beyond Antalya for ballet and opera productions. Cappadocia, with its amazing landscape requires a few days to explore. An easy 10 hr drive, it is an amazing place and well worth it. A range of water sports can be found close by: diving, parasailing, waterskiing, jet skiing, ringos and white water rafting. Early and late season is a popular time for nature lovers. There are many beautiful walks and drives in the mountains above Fethiye and around Lake Koycegiz. Gocek is a popular place for sailing, providing many opportunities for day trips as well as excellent facilities for the keen yachtsman.

Booking notes
On receipt of the booking forms, a 35% non-refundable deposit is required within 7 days to secure a booking. The balance as shown on the invoice is payable 10 weeks prior to departure, together with fully refundable security deposit. Early booking is recommended as we attract many repeat guests and the sailing options are popular with limited availability. Payments are accepted via BACS or internet bank transfer. We regret that we are unable to accept payment by credit card.

Owner profile

About the owner
We are based in rural Shropshire, UK, and now divide our time between here and our home in Gocek. We first discovered Gocek in 2001, purely by chance when we stopped off for a couple of hours during a one week yachting holiday. The following week whilst staying in a cottage in Kayakoy, we could not resist visiting Gocek again. We had no idea that this would become our home three years later! The following two years were spent enjoying the wonderful sailing in Croatia and it was here that we bought our locally crafted yacht. After exploring many possibilities, taking us to two or three countries, we decided to bring the yacht to Gocek, at the same time buying our property and starting a new life, post children. We have never looked back!

Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
The villa is in a perfect, peaceful location and although not in a flight path, is only 20 mins from Dalaman airport. The close proximity to the marina and the village centre, together with the flexibility of the property accommodation, made it an ideal choice. We are usually on hand to welcome our guests and to provide those extra special snippets of information! At the very least, we can offer a glass of chilled freshly made lemonade or a slice of lemon curd cake, made with lemons from our own trees - very popular with our local Turkish friends! A popular and idyllic place for sailing, Gocek does not cater for the package market. Although many locals gain most of their income from tourism, life in the surrounding villages and mountains continues much as it has done for centuries.

Unique benefits of the property
This is a very special part of Turkey, as many of our guests have come to discover, several of them returning each year. With so much to see and do, spectacular scenery and historical sites, a temperate climate, the warm, genuine hospitality of the locals, and fresh locally produced food, Gocek provides the perfect place for a holiday. Our sailing yacht 'Sevinc' provides exhilaration, real relaxation, and the opportunity to visit beautiful places inaccessible by any other means. Mooring up overnight in a tiny bay gives us opportunities for quiet reading, fishing, swimming in the clear turquoise sea, snorkeling, enjoying good food, wine and spectacular sunsets.
