Further details
At the entrance of the complex there are a couple of local shops selling the essentials like bread, milk, water etc. And just over .5km away towards is a bigger local shop and local restaurant, and an ING cash point machine. There are multiple restaurants along the road to both Gumusluk and Yalikavak. The most well known is Limon Cafe - which is a must-visit restaurant with great sunset views, and all the charm you're looking for in a local restaurant. Gumusluk has some of the best Fish restaurants in the quiet bay overlooking Rabbit Island, and has a safe bay free from boats that's perfect for snorkeling. Yalikavak has more shops and restaurants on offer, and is our favourite destination for a night out. A little way out of town on the way to Bodrum is a group of traditional windmills, which are worth a visit.
There are many local markets throughout the week:
Monday – Guvercinlik, Tuesday – Bodrum (fabrics & clothing), Wednesday – Gumusluk & Ortakent, Thursday – Bodrum & Yalikavak,
Friday – Bodrum & Bitez, Saturday – Turgutreis – (food & clothing), Sunday – Mumcular & Gumbet
A trip to Bodrum doesn't have to mean being caught in the tourist trap. Keep off the beaten track, and stroll through the back streets and visit local bars and restaurants. Bodrum Castle is captivating to visit, and there are many ancient sites dating back to BC around the peninsula. You can take a Gullet boat trip for the day, and cruise around the bay. Not all of these day trips are party boats, and there's an especially mellow daily boat trip out of Yalikavak, which is great for a snorkeling adventure.
There a many established hiking routes local to the apartment, Gumusluk and Yalikavak, and also across the whole peninsula. There are also many destinations convenient for a day trip out of the peninsula, and you can either drive or take a coach/bus to your destination.
We can help you with all local information, so you can make the most of your stay in the area.

Just to say we've returned from Turkey today and your apartment is great, so thank you for leasing it to us. We spent most of the time in the house on the roof deck as it was so peaceful and the view is fantastic. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Trish Rogers and Bob Tuckett May 2010.
You are near enough to Gumusluk and Yalikavak for convenience, but you are also away from the package tours of Gumbet, and lager louts in Bodrum's restaurant row. The sea was really blue, and we used the private beach a few times, and it was a nice place to watch the sunset. I also found a good place to fish nearby - between Gumusluk and Turgetries. A. Pughes, Manchester April 2009.
This was a good place for a low cost holiday. We got last minute flights, but then needed a place to stay. I was worried about not staying in Bodrum, but after visiting there a couple of times, I was glad that we were staying away from the holiday makers. C.Edwards, Brighton June 2009.
Owner profile
Bodrum - during our 1st trip to Turkey
About the owner
Hi - we're both originally from England, but are currently living in Los Angeles. We love the sunny weather - and we also love to travel! LA is meant to be laid back - but that's a myth - we both work our socks off in the Entertainment Industry - I work for a studio as a project manager and my husband works as an On-Set Painter working on TV shows, Music Video's and Commercials.
We live in the heart of LA, so enjoy spending time in our our house in Turkey, it's perfect to experience a more laid back lifestyle. We wish we could visit it more often, but are glad to share it with visitors who want reasonably priced accommodation in a quiet location.
Year purchased: 2008
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
We bought our house during our first trip to Turkey. We were based in Bodrum, but searched all over the Bodrum peninsula for properties. Although we liked Bodrum - we loved the chilled feel of Yalikavak and Gumusluk. Our house is away from all of the holiday crowds - so you feel like you're experiencing Turkish Living when you stay there - which is exactly what we were looking for.
We usually hire a car or moped when we're there, because we love exploring. On the map, the peninsula looks really small compared with the rest of Turkey, but there is so much diversity in the area. If you're looking for a package deal type holiday, then our house is definitely not the place for you. But if you want to get away from it all - it's perfect!
Unique benefits of the property
There's a couple of local shops to buy essentials - bread (ekmek), water (su) and milk (sut) etc. - they don't speak English, but they're very helpful and friendly, and I like being able to practice my Turkish.
The closest restaurant is the Limon Cafe in Gumusluk (1km) - you have to eat there if you're in the area, go at sunset and then you really know you're on holiday.
Each time I've been to Turkey, I've collected more information about the area and have created a website with a wealth of local information. If you're going to travel all the way to Turkey, I encourage you not to stay in one spot when you get there, there's a lot to see, the locals are great! Whether you hire a car or moped, jump on the dolmus or go hiking - it'll be an adventure.
