The villa, built in 2005 with our young family in mind, is in the village of Islamlar. The village is high in the hills behind Kalkan, which is about 20 minutes drive away. The landscape is lush and cooler at night than on the coast. The house is arranged over 3 floors, with bedrooms on top and ground and living/kitchen space in the middle. A veranda runs round 3 sides at middle floor level and incorporates a dining terrace with views towards Patara beach. The private pool is approx 8m x 4m, surrounded by a large terrace, and fenced off with a boltable gate. There is also a small splash pool. The gardens are mainly laid to path with trees planted. The ambience is secluded and rural. There is a neighbouring villa on one side, otherwise the nearest neighbour is 200m. On the other sides are a small pine forest and orchards. The main orientation of the villa is South, with views of the sea and islands beyond Kalkan, and West with views of Patara and mountains. The sunsets are glorious.

We can also offer an English villa host to help look after you.
She will provide breakfast, do shopping, cook dinner twice per week and babysit twice per week. Exact scope is flexible and can be agreed with you. Cost is £500 per week for up to 5 people/one family and £850 per week for more.

Accessibility
You need to be able to negotiate stairs as it is over 3 floors.
Outside
On the middle floor there is a covered verandah on three sides (always shade somewhere). On one side it widens into a dining terrace with tables and chairs.
At ground floor level there is a large terrace and a path that runs right around the house. The pool is private and approx 8m x 4m. It is of uniform depth of about 1.4m. On the three sides accessible from the terrace, it has railings with a boltable gate.
Just below the pool in the garden, shaded by a large tree there is a splash pool designed for small children.
The terrace is equipped with sun loungers and sun shades.
The garden is a good size and surrounds the house. It has been laid with paths between small fruit trees. It is designed for shoes rather than bare feet.
There is a garage and parking for 2 or 3 cars.
There is a villa next door on the garage side. On the other sides there are pine trees or rough orchard. The main orientation is South towards Kalkan and the sea, and West towards Patara beach and the sea.
Coast/Beach
Patara beach is an 18km stretch of proper soft sand (not grit!) and dunes and is 25 mins drive from the villa. It is undeveloped and has a single cafe and bed/umbrella hire facility.
There are many other coves and bays great for swimming or sunbathing but not offering the sand of Patara.
Activities such as diving, water skiing, windsurfing etc can all be arranged at Kalkan or Kas.
Travel
The villa is 140km from Dalaman airport and takes just under 2 hours to drive. From Antalya airport it is approximately 180km and takes around 3 hours.
The property managers who look after the villa for us can arrange combined car hire and airport transfer deal for you at a competitive rate.
Distances
The nearest shop is approx 1.5km away and sells all the basics.
Kalkan is approx 20 mins drive and has supermarkets, banks and most other things you might need. Kalkan also abounds in restaurants of all descriptions and all budgets.
Further details
With our own young children we frequently spend much of the day playing and relaxing at the villa, in and out of the pool. We frequently go to Patara beach early to mid afternoon and stay till sunset. If you want to get out and about, the area is well provided with things to do and places to go. Some of these are noted below.
The two nearest towns are Kalkan and Kas. Kalkan is a fishing village which has grown into an upmarket tourist town but still retains its identity as a port/harbour. Feels lively at night - family friendly, strong English contingent. Kas is a larger port town which serves as a local commercial centre as well as having a significant tourist element. Bit more cosmopolitan than Kalkan, more of an "independent traveller" feel. Things to do. Active stuff:
- Diving, water skiing, windsurfing all available in Kalkan
- Kas is the local centre for more rugged outdoor pursuits and offers caving, climbing, sea kayaking and other activities
- Horse riding on the beach at Patara Boat trips: - Numerous day and evening trips available in both Kalkan and Kas.
History: - whole area very rich in history and offers numerous sites to visit. Trips: - Saklikent Gorge is 30 mins from the house and well worth a visit to wade the river and walk the gorge. - Kekova, explore the sunken city by glass bottom boat or sea kayak. - Dalyan Delta river trip to see ancient rock carvings and a swim. - Olympos, best done as an overnight trip to see the flames coming from the rock. Fethiye, the largest commercial centre and about 1 hour away. Vibrant market and pleasant harbour.
