Guest comments
"This is probably the only holiday we've had where the sun has shone every day. The peace and tranquility of Tina's garden has been just perfect as our aim was complete relaxation. The lovely pool is an added bonus and I've loved idly swimming and watching the sky and Alpujarra mountains. We've loved going up the Alpujarras. Thank you Tina for your advice and especially your willing help at the Urgencias! Mike and Joan Sept 10 2010
"Thank you for a wonderful stay and being so helpful. You have created a beautiful place full of peace and tranquility. I am sure this will not be our last visit to Buenavista"
Anne and Drew. 1 - 8 September 2008
"It's always difficult trying to 'second guess' internet descriptions of where to stay on holiday - they all sound like paradise. However, to find one that really is a tiny bit of heaven, with its own friendly guardian angel, is a marvellous experience. Thank you Tina for a brilliant week."
Terry and Adrian. 8 - 15 September 2006.
About the Owner
Upon finding Buenavista I retired to Spain from my job as Appeals Director for a National Charity in 1999. At that time the cortijo was decidedly unloved, but the setting and location was fantastic and the house and garden had tremendous potential. I have spent the last thirteen years improving and developing the cortijo, Jasmin Cottage and the gardens. I want people to be able to share what I have created, but not too many! Hence, just the one cottage, for four people. It is spacious and completely self-contained. However, I am not completely retired as a couple of years ago I became President of Acompalia - a charity that aims to establish a hospice on the Costa Tropical. It is hard to retire completely!
Year property purchased: 1999
Why this location?
Buenavista had good access from the main road, whilst being completely private. It also had mains electricity and water - essential! Buena vista = beautiful view and it certainly lived up to its name. It was close to the historical city of Granada whilst being in Las Alpujarras - Perfectly situated for walking; biking; skiing;photography; birdwatching. All this would ensure that the type of guests staying here would be people with whom I would be happy to share my home and garden. Orgiva was just 2kms down the road and I felt comfortable and at ease in what was a genuine market town with all the facilities. A fantastic 30 minute drive down through mountain scenery took me to the Mediterranean, just far enough away. Friends and family would be able to visit regularly, and they do.
What are the unique benefits of the property?
Buenavista is so easily accessible from the main road. There is nothing worse than having to drive 10 or 20 minutes down a dusty dirt track that becomes an unstable, rocky quagmire in Winter. Cars can be parked securely within the property and close to the cottage for convenient unpacking. The property is completely private and in a peaceful location. The swimming pool is set within a paved terrace area and has fantastic views over Orgiva and the mountains beyond. The shady orchard with chairs and tables provides a lovely space for relaxation and watching the birds. There are three restaurants within easy walking distance, but also a delightful patio as well as the terrace upon which to enjoy a home cooked meal or bbq, via the well-equipped kitchen.
