Property description
Istán is one of the Pueblos Blancos (white villages) of Andalucia on the edge of the National Park of the Sierra de las Nieves. The Rio Verde runs through the Park which is magnificent walking country, with wild flowers, birds, natural springs and native woodland set in a southern Spanish mountain climate. It is reached by a 10 mile drive on mountain road from Marbella. It is a well cared for and beautiful village of 1500 people. There are two small supermarkets, a bank, three or four restaurants and several bars, most of which serve tapas. There is a market at the weekend, and fresh fish is brought from the coast most days. The village has a new public swimming pool, with landscaped gardens, open during the summer months. Various local festivals, both cultural and religious, are held throughout the year, such as the Easter processions, and others honouring Istán's saint.

This is a kitchenette that has a 2-burner hob and a fridge with small internal freezer. Fully equipped with glasses, cutlery and crockery etc.
Utility Room:
Other equipment includes iron and ironing board, hairdryer.
A washing machine is available for guest use in the downstairs storeroom.
Living Rooms:
This is a lounge / diner / kitchenette. There are two bamboo armchairs, a 2-seater sofa, coffee tables and a radio/cd player. The sofa can be converted to a single bed. There is no TV. A wood burning stove is available for chilly evenings.
Cleaning/Towels/Linen/Maid service:
Towels and linen are all supplied and there is a hamper containing spare linen if it should be required. Property is cleaned and linen changed weekly.

About the area
Accessibility
Istán is a mountain village; the house would not be suitable for people with mobility problems. Open plan stairs would not be suitable for toddlers or very young children.
Outside
There is a good size private roof terrace with outside tables and chairs. A barbecue suitable for use with charcoal is supplied. The view from this terrace is stunning; many of our visitors tell us that they spend a great deal of their holiday here!
Coast/Beach
10 miles drive on a good road to reach the coast and the beaches of Marbella or San Pedro.
Golf
Large choice of golf courses on the coast around Marbella, within easy reach.
How to get there
Malaga and Gibraltar airports are the same distance from Istán (45 miles) and car hire is easy to arrange. Anyone wishing to sightsee and travel to the coast daily should consider car hire; parking is easy in the village. For the budget traveller who is not in a hurry there is good public transport. Buses leave regularly (once or twice an hour) from Málaga to Marbella, and there are three buses a day between Marbella and Istán.
Distances
All the ameneties of a busy village are available on your doorstep in Istán; the village itself has a Moorish tower and archway, waymarked walks and viewpoints and some historic tiled fountains including the famous 'Chorro', as well as a variety of shops, bars and restaurants. The protected Pinsapo Pine grows on these mountains. Tours of Andalucia's 'white' villages, of which Istán is one, are recommended. Marbella and the coast can be reached with a 10 mile drive down a well-made mountain road.
Further Details
The village has a large pool with great views! The pool is very high quality, with showers and changing rooms. There is a bar with food. Opens for summer months only from 12 noon until 8pm.
In the village, there are two banks with cash machines, two supermarkets, two bakers and a variety of bars, restaurants and other shops. There is a Medical centre and chemist.

25% deposit required to reserve a property; the balance is due six weeks before your holiday.

About the Owner
I've lived in the centre of Bath for over 30 years in our old stone house on the river. Graham and I converted the old kitchens about 20 years ago to make a spacious apartment to let for holidays for a variety of visitors around the world.
Our small holiday house in a 'white' mountain village in Andalucia offers a quite different experience. We love both!
