Notes on accommodation
The apartment is fully heated throughout. This is necessary in Granada, which can be surprisingly cold at night in winter even when it is very sunny by day. It is kept cool in summer by thick walls and fans.
Outside
An internal staircase, accessible only from the apartment, reaches the unusually large and private roof terrace. The terrace is partially roofed, allowing ample shade, and has various tables, chairs and sun-loungers.
The views are incomparable, so wide that the mountain ranges surrounding the city are almost all in clear view. Below them you can see the magnificent cathedral, together with the long tree-lined streets and squares of central Granada. There is also a fine view of the Alhambra (although you do have to stand on a bench to see it!)
The terrace is well planted with bougainvillea, plumbago, citrus trees and shrubs. The pomegranate bushes, which give the house its name, are here too.
Coast/Beach
The Costa Tropical and its many beach resorts are a 50 minute drive from Casa de las Granadas. The nearest, and for us the prettiest, is Salobrena which has a higgledy piggledy Moorish white washed village around a picturesque old castle built on a volcanic plug and a more modern town stretching out along the beach. A popular Sunday activity for Granadinos is to go for a fried fish lunch at the beach restaurants, known as chiringuitos.
Golf
Granada's golf course, Santa Clara Golf is 16km away (about 20 min).
Skiing
The Sierra Nevada ski resort is Europe's Southernmost ski resort and is so high that it has 5 months skiing per year. It is easily accessible from Granada and Casa de las Granadas (45 min by car). It has 79 pistes with a wide range of levels.
Special interest holidays
We provide personalised guided tours of Granada and the area, including photographic and walking tours.
Travel
Granada airport is 20 min by car and has cheap flights to Gatwick, Stanstead and Liverpool with Monarch airlines and Ryan Air.
Malaga airport and Almeria airport are both serviced from many airports in the UK and are about 1.5 hours drive.
It is easy and cheap to hire a car from all 3 airports. A car is necessary if you wish to go to the mountains or the coast easily but if you will be spending your visit in Granada itself a car is not necessary. Buses and taxis are plentiful and cheap.
Distances
In Granada itself there are too many places of interest to list. The Alhambra is world famous but there are many other historic and cultural sites. There are also great bars, restaurants and shopping.
Further afield are:
• Guadix with its cave houses – 50m by car.
• Walking in the Sierra de Huetor and Sierra Nevada – 45m.
• Ronda – a picturesque town split by a dramatic gorge – 2hrs.
• Ubeda and Baeza – Renaissance towns – 2 hrs.
• Cordoba and its famous mosque – 2.5hrs.
Further details
A good selection of local shops, supermarkets, bars, restaurants, banks, chemists and a daily market can be found within a 5 minute walk in the Albayzin itself. The main centre of Granada is a 5 to 10 minute walk or bus ride away and has all the facilities of a city.

From our visitor's book:
A very helpful welcome and the flat was meticulously prepared. This is the most thoughtfully equipped rental accommodation we have come across as regular travellers. Anna & John have thought of everything to convenience their guests. We will be back & so will our friends. Many thanks! 16/02/08
Awesome flat! Loved the roof terrace. Incredible views. Very quaint location. Furnishings were very neat & comfortable. The stay here was a highlight of our trip to Spain. Ken & Rie, Charlie & Ann Romero 26/09/07
Had a fantastic stay in this wonderful place. This is the best apartment we've stayed in so far in Spain. Very much appreciate Anna for taking care of every little detail. Did a day trip to the beach at Motril. Kids had a great time. Thanks for everything & we will be back. Satish and Sudha 04/09/07
Fabulous time, fabulous flat. We really enjoyed lengthy meals on the roof terrace watching the sun go down behind the mountains... Thank you we will be back.

Owner profile
About the owner
Anna Ward and John Willer moved to the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, Spain in 2004. We came to Granada for a Spanish course a few months later and fell in love with the place. We now live in a 15th century Moorish house in the Albayzin which we are in the process of renovating - we've been doing it for 2 years so far and expect it to take a couple more years yet.
We both have long links with Yorkshire. Anna was born in Hull and John has run marathons over pretty much all of it. We keep up our connection by spending a few weeks every year in our apartment in York. We get to go to the cinema on the river on a near daily basis and to top up our marmite supplies!
For us, spending time between Granada and York is pretty much perfect - and we know how lucky we are...
