It has accommodation on 4 levels including a bathroom and a separate shower room, a traditional timber balcony and a charming south-facing terrace garden. It commands lovely views over Luarca town centre and the beautiful countryside and mountains beyond. This comfortable house is an ideal base for the discerning holidaymaker to enjoy all that Asturias has to offer, providing an increasingly rare opportunity to experience a real sense of traditional Spain. Note on Parking: Luarca is an old fashioned town and so there is not much off-road parking about, but you can park across the street to the house, tight to the wall, with your wing mirror tucked in, or there is a parking area 100 metres further up the street. The local tourism office can advise you on the numerous walks, cycle routes, museums and attractions in the surrounding area.

Notes on accommodation
This house is not suitable for children under the age of 6, owing to the open-plan staircase which accesses all levels. Although the attic bedroom has limited headroom, it has a sunny and spacious feel, the Velux windows are fitted with blackout blinds. The house has full central heating. No smoking in the house please.

Coast/Beach
10 minute walk to Luarca port and 15 minutes walk to Luarca sandy beaches. These two beaches are safe swimming beaches with lifeguard attendance in July and August. There are also two surfing beaches very close to Luarca, Playa Cueva and Playa Otur, which are beautiful beaches whether you surf or not. There are many more beaches and coves along the coast. Sea fishing is a popular pastime in Asturias (licence can be obtained at a cost of 15 euros).

Golf
There is a pitch and putt course in Otur 10 mins away from Luarca. Cierro Grande Golf Club in Tapia de Casariego 24 miles from Luarca (37 mins drive). On the N-634 in the direction of Ribadeo. Turn left at the Rapalcuarto crossroads.

Skiing
Skiing is available in the winter months. 1.5 hours away.

Travel
( Easyjet from Stansted) Aviles (Oviedo) Airport Asturias is 45 minutes drive to Luarca. Car hire is recommended, and although Luarca can be accessed by bus and train, this is a much longer journey from the airport than by car. For those travelling by car on the ferry Luarca is 3 hours drive from Santander (160 kms). (ferries, Plymouth, Portsmouth).
Gijon about 1 hour away, (ferries, Nantes to Gijon).

Distances
Town centre is 5 minutes walk from the house. Luarca is 45 minutes drive from Galicia and the elegant Asturian capital city, Oviedo is 1 hours drive away.

Further details
Luarca is a charming and friendly town and has everything you would expect in a medium sized town, such as good local restaurants, supermarkets, bars, cafes, excellent bakeries, banks and a post office. It has 3 pharmacies and an excellent health centre. It has very good rail and bus links to the rest of Spain. The local tourism office can advise you on the numerous walks, cycle routes, museums and attractions in the surrounding area, including the giant squid museum!

A 25% non-refundable and non-negotiable deposit is required to secure the booking. Full amount payable 8 weeks before arrival.
Cancellation refunds:-
Anytime until 8 weeks before arrival – Any payment made excepting the deposit will be refunded.
4-8 weeks – 50% of rate refunded.
2-4 weeks – 25% of rate refunded.
Less than 2 weeks – no refund.

About the owner
I live in the beautiful west of Scotland, but I grew up in Spain in the 1960s. I work as a designer and my husband is an architect.

Why the owner chose a home in this location
I fell in love with Asturias because it reminded me so much of the unspoilt Spain in which I grew up. Tourism has barely reached the areas where we have our properties. It is an astoundingly beautiful country and we have found the Asturians to be warm and generous spirited people, rich in their traditions, and respectful of the natural world. The geological contrasts within the country are extraordinary too, as the land sweeps from the Picos de Europa mountain range down to quite wonderful bays, where you can still find yourself the only people on the beach.
