Golf
Valderama is considered to be the finest golf course in Spain, and in 1989 also took first place in Europe. Currently, it's amongst the 50 best courses in the world. This 18 hole (par 71) course with its genius-inspired design by Robert Trent Jones, updated at hole 17 by Seve Ballesteros, has been masterfully conceived with fairways that frame with amazing precision the nearly 100 bunkers and lovingly tended elevated greens.
The San Roque Golf Club is the home of the Seve Ballesteros Golf School and two world class 18 hole golf courses, which have been host to the Spanish Open Golf Tournament. The townhouse at Villas de Paniagua makes an ideal base for golfers to stay.
The Real Club Sotogrande was the first golf course in Europe designed by Robert Trent Jones. In 1994, His Majesty King Juan Carlos I granted Sotogrande the title of 'royal'. Located between the Guadiaro river and the Sotogrande marina, it's but three miles from its neighbour the Valderama course.

Travel
Sotogrande has its own exit on the A7 motorway from Gibraltar to Malaga.
Malaga Airport is approximately 60 minutes drive from Sotogrande. 20 kms/20 minutes drive to Gibraltar airport with flights to the UK, Madrid, and Dublin. The flight time from Gibraltar to London is 2.5 hours. 100 kms/55 minutes drive to Malaga airport.

Further details
Sotogrande Polo - something that should definitely not be missed! Watch polo once and you will be hooked. It is a fantastic sport. I had never watched polo in the UK, but here the whole family goes and its free to watch. Playing polo in Sotogrande is open to everyone, horses to hire, a polo school and special grounds for stick and ball. People bringing their own horses can rent stables and bedding. There are ten polo grounds spread over three sites and it is the home of many tournaments including the Copa de Oro which runs in August. The Santa Maria Polo Club is well known throughout Europe and rated as one of the best in the world. Outstanding facilities are provided and you can play polo throughout the year. Therefore, Sotogrande is also known under the nickname 'The Empire of Polo and Sun'. The excellent weather conditions allows the Club to open all year.

There is a great selection of restaurants in the marina. My favourite, the Ke Bar, large menu including light snacks, fantastic service, worth a visit just to have a drink. Ba-Bu restaurant next to the Sotogrande Hotel. Open courtyard, serves all types of fish, lamb, steak, etc. 60's type music played on Fridays and Saturdays, a good place for a leisurely evening. Pueblo Nuevo has a wide variety of bars and restaurants, many within easy walking distance from the house.

Gibraltar - you can do a rock tour by minibus with a guide of the lower areas of Gibraltar including the tunnels and Europa Point and a visit to St.Michael's Cave. On the way down the rock, enjoy the fabulous views of Africa, Gibraltar and Spain

Laguna Beach village is a new upmarket shopping area just to the east of Estepona - including Armani, Boss, Escada Sport, Loewe, Elle Morgan etc. There are several restaurants. You can also spend the day at Puro Beach Club which is a really cool place. It has a beautiful decked area with stunning white beds, tents and a lovely pool.
