Just inland from the busy Costas, in a beautiful setting, this large 5 bed, 3 bathroom villa is set in its own 6 acres of almond groves and has a 10 x 4m swimming pool. The house is in a lovely valley close to Jumilla, a wine-producing region of Southern Spain, with lots of fantastic wine to sample. The house itself used to produce its own wine until a few years ago and the old bodega has now been converted into a large kitchen dining area still houses the original wine press. There is plenty to do if you do not fancy lying by the pool all day and having a BBQ as the sun sets. Locally there is horse riding, trail biking, mountain walks, town to explore and winery tours.The beaches are a mere 45 minutes drive and the fantastic Spa at Fortuna is just 30km. Murcia is 60km away and has much to offer the sightseer and shopper. Closer to home the nearby towns of Jumilla and Pinoso have plenty of restaurants and bars for you to practice your Spanish and try all the fresh produce and tapas.

Notes on accommodation
This is a huge house, with lots of space, no bunk or fold out beds - just real ones like at home.
2 of the large bedrooms have air-con and fans are provided for all bedrooms. The 2 foot thick walls do keep the house cool though, and cosy in winter too.
Large pool and small paddling pool available for toddlers.
Accessibility
The property has two downstairs bedrooms and a downstairs bathroom. Access to the kitchen and terraces would not be suitable for wheelchairs but would be fine for people who have difficulty with stairs.
Outside
Set in its own six acres of grounds with almond trees, some olive and fig trees the house is surrounded by a large walled terrace with fantastic views to the mountains in all directions. The large pool 10m x 4m has fabulous views of the surrounding countryside, with great sunsets over the mountains and lots of space for BBQs and relaxing. BBQ and lots of outdoor furniture and shade are provided. There is a large poolside bathroom/changing area. Paddling pool available for babies. Lots of pool toys!
Coast/Beach
The great beaches at San Juan, Alicante and the coast up to Santa Pola and La Zenia are all less than an hour by car. Take the scenic route over the mountains or the motorway.Horseriding and quod biking available locally.
This location is perfect for a good mix of beach and sightseeing holidays, taking in some golf, cycling or other activities as you please.
Golf
There are several golf courses within a 30 minute drive. The nearest is en route to Alicante, Alenda Golf.

A number of highly rates chefs have opened restauruants in the local towns, we can now make restaurant booking in advance for our guests.
Travel
Alicante airport is approx 50 minutes by car.
Murcia airport is approx 70 minutes by car.
A car is essential and car hire is cheap and easy from either Alicante or Murcia airports and costs £100-£150 per week.

Distances
The nearest towns are 10 minutes drive from the house and have banks, supermarkets, restaurants and bars. Market day is great and its very cheap and easy to stock up for the BBQ from the amazing food stalls. You will get to see the real Spain and the Spanish way of life, and watch the streets clear for siesta at 2pm! These are not touristy towns and if you fancy the bigger shops pop to Alicante or Murcia for the day.
Further details
Fortuna: the wonderful Spa town of Fortuna is about 30km away and the drive itself is particularly scenic ranging from fabulous mountain views to almost lunar landscape in places. The Spas make a fanastic day out with water at 34C!
Jumilla: the wine producing town of Jumilla has a great Fiesta in August, with a free wine fountain and the locals and visitors who come for the festival pour wine everywhere and party until dawn.
There a several local bodegas where wine costs from 50c+ a bottle, most are also farm shops too.

About the owner
We purchased our house in Spain in 2002 as we adore Spain for its great culture, food, relaxing lifestyle and sense of manyana! We have learned Spanish, lived in Spain for 6 months renovating the property ready for rental and love the whole lifestyle, if only we could afford to retire. While we are waiting for that, we are living and working in London and are renting our house out for others to enjoy too!

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Having holidayed at the costas, we decided to holiday inland one year, carefully selecting a villa with a pool to have all the seaside advantages without the crowds. After 2 days we decided it would be fab to have a villa of our own, and spent the rest of the week property hunting. We came back 6 weeks later, viewed a few more and bought this lovely old finca, which we then spent time (and lots of euros) restoring into a great place for us to use and then decided to rent it out as well to help cover the costs. The location is beautiful, relaxing and peaceful, and when we pop over for weekends we feel we've had a real break from the busy lives back home.
Unique benefits of the property
Driving for just an hour inland gets us to the house, which is a home from home, and we have fully equipped it with everything. We want the filter coffee on, the dishes in the dishwasher, a swim before a relaxing breakfast on the terrace and that all before 10am. There is lots and lots of space and a sense of well being. Local towns have great markets, the Spanish way, all local restaurants do excellent lunches, a great escape from the heat of the sun, a walk in the mountains is easy and a BBQ on the terrace as the sun goes down is just perfect. Not forgetting that Jumilla is also a wine producing region. At night the starry sky is amazing, and its the only place we have seen shooting stars! Pop out during the day, visit Murcia (40 mins), or Cartahena, or Valencia (90min). Great!
