Arcos de la Frontera is the first Pueblo Blanco on the ‘Route of the White Villages’, in the heart of the Cádiz Sierra. It perches dramatically upon a rocky limestone ridge above the meandering Gaudalete river and rolling valley below. This stunning position offers unrivalled views across the surrounding countryside and lake below. These views can be enjoyed in many ways, such as the ‘mirador’ viewpoint on top of the cliff face, as you take a leisurely stroll through the meandering cobbled streets of the old town, or as you wind your way down to ‘Barrio Bajo’ the lower area of town. This is where the apartment is situated. It has been renovated to a high standard, with terracotta flooring and a high rustic beamed ceiling. It also features two charming alcoves set into the cave wall and provides an ideal base for exploring the area. Whichever way you choose to explore Arcos’ many hidden charms, you can rest assured you will not be disappointed.

These include the beaches at Cádiz, San Fernando, El Puerto de Santa Maria, and Puerto Real. Arcos also has a beautiful outdoor swimming pool for public use during the summer months.

Opened in 2006 it is usually in immaculate condition. It has been chosen as a winter training facility by the Swedish National Golf Squad and the English Elite Squad. Further details
The property is located in the ‘Barrio Bajo’ area, which is the lower part of town situated at the foot of the cliff face. Nestled between the iron and stone bridges that straddle the Rio Guadalete, it has easy access and there is ample parking outside the courtyard door. There are ample shops, cafes/bars, banks and supermarkets within easy walking distance. From the property, the XI century Arabic ‘Matrera Gate’ can be reached within a 5/10 minutes walk and it is the only remaining gateway in the city wall. It is then a steep climb to the top of the old town, but you are rewarded all the way up with breathtaking views across the surrounding countryside and lake below, especially from the ‘Mirador de Callejas’ to the ‘Mirador de la Peña Vieja‘.

Arcos is only a 30 minute drive from the Natural Parks of Grazalema and 40 minutes from Los Alconocales, where you can enjoy the many spectacular walks available, take in a bit of bird watching (Arcos also has its own bird watching hides), or simply stop and enjoy the many wild flowers that flourish in the area. You can also enjoy a wide selection of other leisure activities in the area, eg golf, fishing and sailing, walking and hiking, mountain biking and horse riding.

For those interested in learning more about the fascinating culture and history of this beautiful area of Spain, the stunning cities of Cádiz, Jerez, Rhonda and Seville are all within an hours drive. Many other smaller towns and villages are also a short drive away, which offer unrivalled beauty, stunning views and a glimpse into the wonderful laid back Spanish way of life. Arcos’ central location in Cádiz province is certainly a perfect base from which to explore this part of rural Spain.

You can also enjoy the Spanish Moto GP at the Circuito de Jerez at the end of March/beginning of April, which is only 20 mins by car. Why not visit the track and watch a practice day for either the Moto GP or the Formula 1 Grand Prix testing.

About the owner
We have lived in Spain for over 4 years, along with our cat and dog.

Year purchased: 2007

Why the owner chose a home in this location
When we decided to make the move to Spain we visited many areas before eventually discovering and falling in love with the Costa de la Luz and Arcos in particular. We chose this town because of the friendly relaxed atmosphere, the history and its easy access to many other beautiful parts of Cadiz Province and Andalucia. We love heading to the local bars to enjoy tapas and a cerveza, most of which are very reasonably priced.

Unique benefits of the property
We are situated right next to the Rio Guadalete which has a newly completed river walk running right by our door. There are many walks you can take to enjoy the local countryside, sights and wildlife. From the apartment there is easy access to the local shops and amenities, all within walking distance. You can either use the supermarkets to stock up on groceries or enjoy the atmosphere in the small local market which stocks fruit & veg, fish and meat. Unlike in the old town itself, there are plenty of parking spaces right outside the courtyard door.
