A supply of logs is provided as part of the winter rental price. Bathroom towels/all linen are included. Guests should bring their own towels for beach or sunbathing. The two cottages of Cortijo Opazo can be rented together for larger groups, with the en-suite courtyard room allowing for greater flexibility in numbers. The maximum number of people that could be accommodated if the sofa-bed in La Corona is used is 8.
English speaking owners are on hand to meet on arrival and offer help or give advice should anything be required. A 'welcome pack' of essentials will also be here to greet you. Home cooked meals available on request.
Accessibility
'La Corona' is suitable for people who have restricted mobility in that the car can be parked 4 metres from the front door at the same level. There is one step to enter the accommodation. Apart from this 'La Corona' has not been specially adapted for disabled users.
Outside
The cottages have their own secluded outdoor areas which include shaded and full sun areas. These are equipped with outdoor tables, chairs loungers and cushions. The large garden adjoining the house is remarkable and unique in terms of the design and varieties of plants, flowers and trees. Various paths wind amongst the broad flowers beds, generously planted with an intoxicating selection of shrubs and perennials, filling the air with scent and the humming of bees according to the time of year. In all seasons there is much to enjoy. It also has a thriving vegetable garden, the produce from which is available to our guests. The garden is there to be enjoyed by everyone at Cortijo Opazo and offers numerous shady and sunny locations for sitting, reading and meditating, plus further land for roaming, contemplating, painting and sitting under the olive trees. Should you find yourself at a loose end you are welcome to help with the digging.
Coast/Beach
The main beach at Salobrena is about one hour away. The Costa del Sol is a fairly well developed stretch of coastline, but there are a number of less well known bays along protected stretches of coast that we can point you towards.
Skiing
The ski resort of the Sierra Nevada is less than two hours by car and makes a very worthwhile day out if you start early. Equipment hire and ski passes are easy to organise and relatively inexpensive in comparison with other ski resorts. The slopes are usually open from early December to late April.

Further details
The Alpujarras is a wonderful place for a holiday and for relaxing generally. It is ideal for walking and offers a vast range of options from challenging high level snow line walks to casual meanderings around the valley. Wherever you go you are accompanied by the sound of water, either from the racing Rio Trevelez and Rio Poqueira, or from the innumerable irrigation channels delivering water to the cultivated land. It is a unique area, treasured by the Moors until they were expelled by the Christians in the 15th century, and still shows many signs of their occupation. Most notably the style of Berber architecture, little white box houses with flat grey roofs supported by sturdy chestnut timbers.
Many people choose to use this area as a base for visiting the city of Granada and the magical Alhambra palace, or for day trips to the coast, but many more are content simply to relax and unwind, enjoying one of the most tranquil holiday spots in Europe. Every season has something special to offer in an area famed for its array of wild flora and fauna. Other activities you can pursue here include painting, horse riding, paragliding, canyoning, guided walks, cycling, sitting, thinking and mellowing. There are a variety of restaurants around including two vegetarian establishments. There are local produce markets, bakeries, a travelling greengrocery van and a fish van to meet all needs. Once you are here, there's no need to leave.
Link to owner's website below will show more pictures of the property and the area.

About the owner
Robert and William live at Cortijo Opazo all year round and spend most of their days either working in the garden, on the vegetable plot or preparing the accommodation for guests. When not doing one of these activities they might be found walking in the valleys and mountains that surround the house with their two dogs, Fergus and Ella.
In 2003 they left rewarding jobs in the UK, one as a teacher and the other as a garden designer, and have enjoyed the challenge of creating a life in a new and welcoming country. Now, they can't imagine living anywhere else.
Year purchased: 2002
Why the owner chose an apartment in this location
The Alpujarras is a very special area that captivates visitors with its charm. When you visit you will quickly understand why we chose to live here. It has a strong and particular cultural identity, the people who live here are proud of their heritage, a heritage that is still strongly in evidence and in daily use. Whilst quite cosmopolitan in terms of the number of different nationalities that live here the Alpujarras is very firmly Spanish and it would be impossible to imagine this ever changing. Tourism is very welcome but it is not an area of dead holiday homes, it is a place where people live, work and enjoy life.
There is everything you need here: food, water, humanity and the beauty of the Sierra Nevada. The decision to live here was a quick and easy one.
Unique benefits of the property
What we enjoy about living at Cortijo Opazo, besides the dramatic views, is the fact that we are situated in the countryside half way between the villages of Pitres and Portugos, being 1.5km from each. As such, we can easily 'pop out' to the shops and enjoy a drink at one of the bars without having to use the car. Few of the other villages in the area can offer this.
Ensuring that our guests have the best possible holiday is how we earn an income. So, whilst making sure visitors have all the privacy they could wish for, we are available to give you any information you may need and generally to make sure the accommodation is in the best order possible. This extends to our garden. We are horticultural enthusiasts and work outside every day to create a very special place for relaxation.
