Among olive groves in rural hamlet: to the south and west lie the mountains and beyond them the Mediterranean; to the east is the fertile Vega (plain) of Granada and to the north lie farming country, olive groves, and more mountains. Ancient Loja, beloved of the Moors who lived here over 600 years ago, is just a few miles away and for everyday shopping Huétor Tájar, a renowned asparagus and artichoke growing centre is just down the road.

There is a woodburner in the living room and heaters in kitchen-diner and all bedrooms for the cooler weather. Fans in all rooms for the hot weather. Whilst the property is suitable for children provided they are properly supervised in the pool area, it would not be ideal for teenagers (or their parents!!) who are looking for a lively holiday.

Accessibility
Whilst the ground floor of the property is suitable for those with limited mobility it is not suitable for wheelchair users: there are some narrow doorways, steps from patio to dining room and from living room to dining room have handrails, showers are step-in rather than walk-in. The pool terrace is reached by a flight of shallow steps with a handrail. The pool is entered by steps but there is no rail.
Outside
The property lies alongside a narrow country road and is entered from the road through gates and down a gently sloping drive. A large covered patio lies between the cottage and the road. Steps lead down to a large paved terrace beside the 7.5 x 3.5 m unheated salt water swimming pool (usable from May through to October). The pool is overlooked by a small secluded balcony opening off the master bedroom. The garage is at the far end of the pool terrace. Behind the property there is a slope down to a stream bed and there are olive groves on the far side of this. There is a table and chairs for use on the patio and another set for use on the pool terrace. There are also several loungers. There is a box of childrens toys, including pool toys.
Coast/Beach
It is possible to make a day’s excursion to the beach; resorts on the coast around Almuñucar and Salobrena are closest. However, many visitors prefer to use the pool.
Golf
Golf at Antequera which is about 45 minutes away.
Skiing
Skiing at Sol y Nieve in the Sierra Nevada is about 45 minutes away by car.

Travel
Up to 1.5 hours from Malaga airport or about 40 minutes from Granada by car. Allow about a day and a half from the ferry-port at Santander or 3 days each way through France, especially if you want to explore along the way. You will need a car to get around when you are there, but there are trains from Loja to Granada and Antequera and also Bobadilla junction to the west where there are connections to Malaga, Seville and Cordoba. A short drive to Loja and Huétor Tájar.
Distances
Local towns are Loja 8 miles and Huétor Tájar 3 miles. All the important Andalucian cities are easily reached by motorway: Granada – 30 miles; Antequera – 30 miles; Malaga – 50 miles; Cordoba 105 miles; Seville – 130 miles. Sierra Nevada ski resort 50 miles (30 on motorway).

There are supermarkets in Loja and smaller shops in Huétor Tájar.Huetor Tajar has now got a new big supemarket, Mercadona. Both places have banks with ATMs. Various mobile shops call by. For more details about outings and excursions and places of interest please visit our website.

What a grand little place in a fine, quiet rural setting! House beautifully clean and well-equipped with everything to make us feel welcome. Lovely pool, poolside, balcony and shady patio: plenty of spaces to choose from. Lots of walking and mountain biking plus exploring the area. Loja was so interesting - we spent a whole day visiting the sights there. We definitely want to come back.
The cottage is ideal – a perfect mix of all mod cons, full equipment etc and homely comfort. Had a lovely day with Mick, bird watching. Could not believe how much was going on around us as we walked, even the kids became enthusiastic. Pool fantastic! Back soon - there is such a lot still to see and do.
Wonderful, relaxed week with the weather far hotter than expected for end October. Swimming a tad chilly but worth the effort. The scenery roundabout is spectacular. The Sierra Martilla are awesome and the panoramic view around the necropolis unbelievable. Could do with another week!
