This property sits centrally in a valley with stunning 360 degree mountain views. Stay in the company of colourful birds like the Hoopoe, Bee Eater, Golden Oriel and many others. You could go exploring or just want to relax by the pool, maybe you'll get lucky and see an eagle soaring in the thermals above the mountain opposite! Budget painting lessons can be purchased for as little as 5 Euros per person per 2 hour session in the company of local class members and 8 Euros per 2 hour session per person, for one to one tuition at the casa and on location. Includes all materials, as is for beginners and those who would like to improve their technique (see below) This is an ideal setting to paint or just get away from it all. The cortijo is a 1000 metres above sea level, so in the summer the heat of the sun can be tempered with a cool breeze. In the winter we can have temperatures of 20 degrees or occasionally have snow! How about Christmas in front of a log fire?

Special interest holidays
I am a painter with many years experience having obtained my teaching qualifications at the Portsmouth College of Art, where I studied for 6 years. I teach beginners or guide intermediates how to paint the local scenery, still life or my speciality portrait painting and drawing, in water colours, acrylics, and soft pastels. I run several classes in the local area.
So you can rent the casa for self catering and in addition you can purchase painting lessons in my local classes for 5 Euros per person per 2 hour session. Also you can have individual tuition at 8 Euros per 2 hour session per person at the casa and in the local area. So have a real budget painting holiday by renting the casa for as little as 190 pounds for two and as many painting lessons as you wish for as little as 5 Euros per session per person, all materials included! I believe this to be the cheapest painting holiday ever!

Travel
Airports - Almeria is one and a half hours away by car, Alicante two and a half hours. Murcia two and a half hours, Granada 2 hours. Car hire is essential.

Distances
The cortijo is 10 minutes drive away from our nearest pueblo of Oria with supermarkets, bars and restaurants. Our nearest town of Albox is 25 minutes away. Granada is just over 2 hours away where you can visit the World Heritage Site of The Alhambra Palace, or in the winter ski in the Sierra Nevadas. Baza lakes are an hour away, which have restaurants overlooking the blue-green waters, at one place you can even bathe in the warm spa waters.

Further details
Nearer to home there are numerous weekly markets dotted around and an abundance of Fiestas at various times, including our own in August. We stay next door, so when you visit, there will always be someone there to assist you, and advise you of places of interest. If you want, we can introduce you to our local Spanish neighbours. Don't be too surprised to see fresh produce at your door. The Spanish love to share the spoils of their labour! Or meet up with friends who could be staying at a place nearby.

We have spent a wonderful few days here relaxing & enjoying the beautiful surroundings. Wendy & Laurie have been very generous hosts & their advice & local knowledge have really helped us get the most out of our stay. We particularly enjoyed our painting lesson with Laurie & only wish we could stay longer to make the most of having such a great teacher just next door. Thank you so much to you both. Chloe & Mitchell Cornwall.

Thanks for a really enjoyable week. The casa is beautiful & the surrounding area far surpassed my expectations. A true escape from it all. The local wildlife is amazing & so many beautiful birds! I found my painting lessons with Laurie to be both enjoyable & invaluable & I shall be putting my newly acquired skills to practice on my return! Thank you both for your kindness & hospitality Jess Derby June 2009

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Laurie and Wendy fell in love with the area immediately for it´s tranquility and beauty. The country Spanish believe in the extended family and love the land they live in and are only too happy to welcome anyone who shows an interest in their way of living. They have a small chapel at the bottom of their driveway where Mass is practiced on saints days and fiestas. Laurie and Wendy celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary there where they were blessed by the local priest, attended by their friends that included both Spanish and English. They feel sure you will fall in love with Barranco De Quiles as they have done.

Unique benefits of the property
While the views are stunning and you can chill out on the terrace all day if you want to you are not far away from village and town life that enjoys a variety of restaurants and bars both English and Spanish. The casa is a private place that is not overlooked by the neighbours. Depending on what time of year you stay, you can enjoy the local fresh produce of that time, once tasted you will notice the difference from supermarket fayre. You may have some fresh veg delivered to your door by the local generous Spanish!
