Further details
Jalance is one of the villages in the stunning Valley of Ayora. The rivers Jucar and Cabriel flow through this fertile valley, with its typical Mediterranean vegetation of pine trees, rosemary, thyme, rock roses, broom and esparto. The crops are olives, almonds, peaches and grapes. On the pine covered mountains you can see wild boar, mountain goats, foxes, partridges and golden eagles.
Jalance is a friendly village, The Real Spain, as far away from the Costas as you can imagine. It has all the facilities you will need, banks, bars, butchers, bakers, hairdressers, tourist office and several small general stores from before the days of supermarkets.
Worth a visit are the ruined castle, the beautiful church and the Cave of Don Juan. There are many stunning drives and walks you may take through the countryside on the web of excellent caminos. Particularly worth seeing are the local Fiestas, San Blas Feb 4th and Virgen de la Asuncion 15th of August. It is still possible to buy a coffee for 1 euro, a three course menu of the day for 9 euros to include wine and a coffe with brandy in it. We have lived here for 5 years so we can advise you of all the best places to get value for money.

Owner profile
About the owner
Bernard and his wife Sue are both retired Civil Servants. Bernard was also in the Royal Marines, and Sue is a qualified Massuese, we have run the business for the last 5 years. We came into the valley and found the house which had been empty for 25years and we saw the potential and totally refurbished the property, it took the builders 12 months to complete. Sue is front of house, whilst Bernard hides in the kitchen doing the breakfasts, making sandwiches if ordered, and generally keeping out of harms way. We are in most days so please feel free to phone us if you have any questions we will do our best to answer them honestly so that you can decide if you want to come and stay.
Year purchased: 2003
Why the owner chose a guest house in this location
We bought the property because we could see that it was possible to turn an ugly duckling into a swan.It is three klms from the village on a no through road so no problems with a lot of fast traffic, just old men going to their little pieces of land.We have a shepherd who takes his sheep out every day and in the evening the sound of the bells helps the red or white wine go down even better as the sun sets, and you think to yourself I could live this kind of life. The house is midway between Valencia and Alicante{but inland} so getting here is no problem. We are also mid way between the small towns of Requena and Almansa both of them have large supermarkets for those staying in the annexe doing their own catering, for smaller items these can be purchased in the village.
Unique benefits of the property
Whilst staying with us you have access to miles of tracks for walking, miles of country roads with hardly any traffic on. We have been here for six years and we can advise you of where all the best eating places are you can still get a menu of the day for 8 euros; that's a 3 course lunch with a salad, bread, wine and coffee. We can also tell you which places to visit to see the real Spain and really enjoy yourselves.
If you get in touch with us we can tell you when our village has its fiestas. New year in the village is excellent, everybody meets in the town hall square to eat grapes on the stroke of midnight, this is followed by Cava which is donated by the Town hall. Then off to the dance which starts at 12.30 and goes on until 6.30 in the morning, and there is never any trouble.
