Casa Swann is located on the sunniest side of the valley. The driveway is lined with pretty dry stone walls, olive trees, pepper trees and palms. Lavender, rosemary and thyme cover the valley slopes and scent the air. A decorative arched white gate leads from the driveway into a small sunny courtyard. From here you can enter Casa Swann via the double wooden front door or walk past the lemon tree through the arch to the pool terrace. Curved tiled steps lead into the pool at the shallow end. Underwater lights encourage a refreshing dip on hot nights. The unusual square and round pergola windows frame stunning valley views and sunsets. The curved upper terrace is accessed via the lounge and dining room. Moorish tiled steps invite you down to the pool terrace. A refreshing dip in the pool followed by coffee on the terrace is the perfect start to each sunny day. The covered outside dinning area overlooks the entrance courtyard and has distant views of the sea to the East.

Outside
Casa Swann nestles into the mountain rock. Rough stone steps lead from the back terrace inviting you to explore the steep hillside garden behind the villa and enjoy the views from a higher vantage point. There is a private leafy glen with a stone bench behind the villa which is lovely and cool in summer. This is a tempting place to hide away on a hot afternoon to read a book or a magazine in peace and quiet.
Coast/Beach
Almeria has over 200 kilometres of coast with long, uncrowded stretches of sand, pretty sheltered coves and the rugged wilderness of Spain's south eastern cape. Mojacar, Garrucha and Vera beaches are all within 15-20mins drive from Cortijo Grande. There are lots of other beaches worth visiting within an hour's drive. Cabo de Gata, a protected area of coastline, is particularly recommended.
Golf
There are four golf courses within 20mins drive of Cortijo Grande and many more within an hours drive. The differing course designs and locations will satisfy many golfers' desire for a challenging game away from home – and the sunny climate makes it possible to play all year round. Many visitors prefer to rent a villa in Cortijo Grande for their holiday while enjoying day trips out to play a round of golf at these newly developed resorts. Everyone describes Cortijo Grande as the prettiest course they have played. Only 9 holes are currently available. The clubhouse is closed for renovation – golfers relax at the Almazara Bar.
Skiing
The slopes of Sierra Nevada are relatively close which means visitors can drive up for the day or the weekend. As the most southern ski resort in Europe, skiers enjoy brilliant sunshine, blue skies and snow that is light and dry owing to the low humidity.
Special interest holidays
Almeria is proud of its glamorous connection to the movie industry. Many westerns were filmed here including The Good, The Bad & The Ugly starring Clint Eastwood. Film sets remain and you can visit, watch shows and visit off set film locations on horseback.
Travel
The closest airport to Cortijo Grande is Almeria (80km - 45mins). Murcia is the next closest (150km - 1hr 25mins). Alicante is the third closest (215km - 2 hours). The route from Murcia airport to the motorway is complicated and therefore may take up to 2 hours.
It is necessary to have a car when staying at Casa Swann.
Distances
Travelling through Almeria province gives the visitor a better understanding of the geographical, climatic, cultural and historical mix which makes it so unique. From the troglodytic villages in the Alpujarras - to the white washed moorish hilltop stronghold of Mojacar - to the gypsum karst caves beneath Sorbas - to the only desert in Europe, famous for its spaghetti western movie sets - to the renaissance castle in Los Velez.
