Accessibility
Doorways are generally wide and the downstairs bedroom (bedroom 2) has its own outside door. Access to the garden and terrace is good. However, there are a number of small steps (one and two-step) in the house, and the road immediately outside the drive is steep.

Outside
There is a mature garden with roses, bougainvilleas, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, agapanthas and several trees (chestnut, walnut, apple). There are spectacular views down to the sea from all parts of the garden, which is divided into different levels. There is an ample main lawn, where a large chestnut provides welcome shade, and a terraced area outside the dining-room with a BBQ and table and chairs. There are also plenty of loungers. There are two upper levels to the garden, which make ideal refuges for quieter moments!

Coast/Beach
Despite views of approx90km of coast, the nearest beach with access is 5km away in Cedeira. Another 5km to the much-photographed beach of Vilarrube, a magnificent stretch of sand, where two rivers run into the sea in a myriad of transparent blues and greens against a backdrop of chestnuts, oaks, and eucalyptus. 3km more and you come to one of Europe's best surf beaches at Pantín (home to the Pantín Classic on the World Surf Tour). These are the 3 closest beaches but there are many more!

Golf
Nearest golf 18-hole course at Campomar (Ferrol), 30 mins away.

Special interest holidays
The owner can organise various activities for you, including birdwatching, surfing, riding, biking, hiking, sailing, kayaking, trout fishing. Please contact him for details.

Travel
Airport at Santiago de Compostela 80 mins. Airport at La Coruña 70 mins. Ferry at Santander 5 hours. There are good local taxi and bus services, as well as a lovely train service that runs along the north coast. However, it is advisable to have the use of a car if you are staying at Golmar 13.

Distances
Cedeira 5km local fishing village, with couple of good supermarkets, plenty of local shops, tapas bars (renowned) and restaurants. Santiago 80 mins one of the great historic and cultural cities of Spain (World Heritage Site). La Coruña 70 mins fabulous clothes shops, restaurants, and superb fish market. Ferrol 30 mins nearest hypermarket, big stores and fantastic castle. Europe's highest sea cliffs 20 mins, Spain's northernmost point 60 mins, River Eume National Park 40 mins.

Further details
Just 5km, Cedeira is a quick car ride away or a lovely walk (through the forest and along the cliffs). The old end of town is built along the river with a series of squiggly streets and alley ways, where you will find some of the coast's best tapas bars (don't miss the marraxo in the Kilawatio!) The beach at Cedeira is large and protected. For the area's best beaches, you should drive east. Granite ridges divide the northern coast of Galicia into a series of valleys, which, flooded by rising sea levels during the last ice age, form what are known as the Rías Altas (the Upper Firths or Estuaries). As a result, this is a coastline of tremendous contrasts, with a seemingly endless choice of beaches (you can choose between Atlantic rollers and oak or chestnut fringed coves (and yes, there are empty beaches even in August). The coast also offers one of the continent's best examples of Atlantic forest (in the curious microclimate on the near vertical banks of the river Eume), 680 metre sea-cliffs (continental Europe's highest), and the oldest part of the Iberian Peninsular (a discovery announced in 2006 suggests that Cabo Ortegal was formed 1,160 million years ago, making the Peninsular twice as old as previously thought). All this makes for fabulous hiking and biking terrain and the owner can provide detailed information on routes, as well as guides for birdwatching, sea kayaking, and fishing. Surf classes can be organised at the World Champonship beach at Pantín, and for those keen on riding, you don't have to run after one of the wild horses that roam the cliffs; one of Galicia's most highly regarded riding schools is nearby. Having finished doing all this, you'll be ready to eat! Rocky coast and clear water is the ideal combination for Spain's most sought-after seafood. Lobsters, clams, spider crabs (local favourite) can all be found in abundance. Don't forget to try the percebes (goose barnacles!) And all of this should be washed down with a chilled Albariño!
