Notes on accommodation
All windows and external sliding doors are fitted with mosquito nets.
A fence with a bolted door is fitted on the terrace that gives access to the main pool terrace. This is intended to stop very young children from reaching the pool unaccompanied.
Reasonable use of the heating and of the air conditioning systems is included in the rental price.

Accessibility
Normal entrance to the house is via a flight of 14 steps. However, the driveway extends around the property to a point where a short ramp gives access to the pool terrace and then to a sliding glass door into the house. This is convenient when arriving with suitcases or shopping. It also facilitates movement with children or the elderly.

Outside
Terraces surround the house on three sides, to provide a variety of situations for dining, sunbathing, reading and relaxing. All have wonderful views, either to the sea, the mountains, or the garden.
The kidney shaped infinity pool is about 9m long. The steps and initial depth are fine for older children able to swim, but young children must be accompanied by adults.
There is a garage and ample parking on the extensive driveways.
The house has many fir trees in the 3 acres of grounds, being part of a woodland conservation area that slopes away from the house. There are lovely walks in this woodland, going along the hilltop or down to the river in the valley. In summer, this hilltop position usually has sea breezes that bring welcome relief from the heat at midday and the gentle rustle of the pine trees invites a siesta.

Coast/Beach
The coast in Altea is reached in about 5 minutes by car from the house. The beaches in Altea are principally pebble, although that in the centre of Altea is sand covered. It has showers and children's play areas. Swimming from these beaches, in normal conditions, is generally safe. Life guards are on duty in the season. There are many restaurants and cafes close to these beaches.
Nearby Calpe and Benidorm, about 20 minutes by car, have extensive sandy beaches, as do Javea and Denia.

Golf
There is a well known golf course just outside of Altea. It takes about 15 minutes by car to reach it. There are other courses in the neighbourhood. Details on request.

Travel
Altea is reached from Alicante airport in the South in about 1 hour by car. Valencia, to the North, lies about 1 1/2 hours distant, also using the A7 motorway. Murcia airport is now also being used, but it takes about two hours to reach Altea from there.
There are good public transport services in the area and a narrow gauge railway runs from Alicante to Denia, via Altea. It makes for an interesting excursion.
A car is certainly desirable when renting the house, especially in summer.

Further details
Altea is probably the loveliest town on the Costa Blanca and its centre is just over two kilometres from the house. The old town is built around the church on the hill, within walls that date back to the Arab conquest. In fact, the church has developed from the old mosque that stood there. There are fine restaurants and boutiques there and lively evening entertainment in the cobble stone square.
The modern part of town has excellent shops of all types, a covered market and, on Tuesdays, a large open market that attracts visitors from neighbouring towns. It also has a fine seaside promenade that stretches the length of the town. Alongside are restaurants and cafes to suit all tastes, a delightful place to sit and watch the world go by.
Altea is still a fishing port, as well as a venue for amateur sailors in the two marinas. The Altea Yacht Club has a good restaurant and cafe, open to the public. Boat excursions can be booked at the harbour, both local trips and day long sailings to Denia via Calpe. The hinterland behind Altea quickly becomes mountainous and there are really wonderful drives through that area. Take a picnic, or stop at one of the many mountain restaurants that, on Sundays, attract mostly Spanish families. It is a lovely introduction to the real Spain.

Booking notes
