Built in the local rustic style, with decorative touches that echo the areas Moorish past. The bedrooms are on the ground floor creating cool summer sleeping, with the living accommodation above in order to take advantage of one of the best views in the village, surpassed only by the magnificent panoramic vistas from the roof terrace. The house is situated in the old (upper) part of the village called ‘Castillo’ where the narrow winding streets reflect its Moorish history. ‘Castillo’ is a mainly pedestrian area ensuring peace and tranquillity since it is rarely disturbed by noisy village traffic.

"Even without the views, the house is superb. So well designed, always cool, beautifully furnished and equipped. But with the views .... it is just staggering. We spent forever on the roof just looking. Isn’t it wonderful the way that the sounds of the the bustle of the village, even the school, float up." Rod & Kathy (Oct 11)

Owner profile

About the owner
We are a professional couple living in Cheshire, UK. Now that our children have left home we have a little more time and money to devote to our house in Montejaque.

Year purchased: 2010

Why the owner chose a home in this location
Deciding to buy a house in Spain may be the easy part; deciding where is the difficult part! After spending a number of years exploring various parts of Spain we chanced upon Montejaque and immediately new that we had found the village where we wanted to have a home. A white village in Andalucia within easy reach of one of the most beautiful towns, Ronda. The village is in a breathtaking location. The countryside is spectacular and amongst the best walking terrain we have encountered anywhere in Europe. Enough tourists visit the area to ensure that there is a good selection bars, restaurants and facilities. Yet Montejaque retains its quiet, traditional Spanish character....and the villagers are so welcoming.

Unique benefits of the property
Unusually for traditional Spanish houses, Casa Santa Maria has exceptional views from the living accommodation and the views from the roof terrace must be the best in Montejaque. When we arrive from UK the first thing we do is take a cup of tea or wine (depending on time of day) onto the terrace and our cares disappear. You can feel your body relax....it beats any yoga session!
