A modern apartment in a small block with 9 apartments. Large master bedroom and 2 twins, a combined living/dining room (leading to a small terrace) and a separate well equipped kitchen. Also consisting of 2 good sized bathrooms. This apartment is located in the village called Guajar Alto which is to be found at the end of the valley in a beautiful mountain area called Los Guajares. The village has a small (but well provisioned) shop and 3 bars (all serving food). The views are outstanding from wherever you are - from the large roof terrace of the apartment building to the fantastic walks up into the hills. The coast (including a golf course) is about 30 minute’s drive, whilst the town of Granada with the wonderful Alhambra Palace is approx 1 hour by car (the ski resort is about another 30 minutes farther).

Prices per week in euros. Shorter stays are possible (upon application) and discounts are available for stays of 2 weeks or more. When you arrive, you will be asked for a refundable deposit (50 euros) against damage.

Kitchen: Ceramic hob over an oven and an extractor hood, fridge/freezer, stainless steel sink and drainer, washing machine, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, 2 coffee makers, juicer. There's also mountain views from the window.
Living Rooms: Combined living/dining room consisting of: 2 sofas (2 and 3 seater), coffee table, dining table and 6 chairs, cupboards, CD player, air conditioning/heating unit, access to balcony terrace.
Cleaning/towels/
linen/maid service:
Towels and linen are provided. The property is cleaned prior to arrival. Additional cleaning can be provided upon request. A meet and greet service is provided at a point in the village in order to show you to the apartment and provide you with keys.

 

Notes on accommodation
The 3 air conditioning units can be used for heating and cooling via remote control units. There are also a further 2 free-standing heaters that can be moved to any room. A folding cot is provided. Please note that this is a non-smoking apartment.

Accessibility
The apartment is located on the 2nd floor and there are no lifts - wheelchair access is not possible.

Outside
The balcony terrace has patio furniture (table and 4 chairs). The roof terrace, at the moment, is void of furniture but chairs from the apartment can be taken up (one flight of stairs). The views from the roof terrace are outstanding, overlooking part of the village and the surrounding mountains.

Coast/Beach
The coast and its beaches are about 30 mins by car. The beaches are dark sand and generally clean and well kept. Salobreña is the nearest coastal town. It is reportedly one of the most photographed towns due to its appearance on approach - it's whitewashed houses are built on a large hill topped with a Moorish castle.

Golf
Los Moriscos Club de Golf is an 18 hole course situated by the beach and is about 30 minutes by car. The club also has a driving range and practice putting green. There is also a bar and restaurant - children are welcome.

Travel
Granada is the closest airport (75 mins or so) closely followed by Málaga (about 1¾ hour) - getting shorter due to new motorway sections coming on stream. Almeria is also possible but is over 2 hours away. A car is essential as public transport is extremely limited to the village.

Almunecar 35km. Motril 20km. Salobreña 15km. Granada 60km. Sierra Nevada ski resort 85km.

Further details
Guajar Alto is one of three villages in Los Guajares (the other two being Guajar Fondon and Guajar Faragüit). There are food shops in each village and there is a bank in Guajar Faragüit. Likewise, there are bars/restaurants serving good local food at very reasonable prices.

The countryside is beautiful and ideal for lots of walking (sturdy walking boots/shoes required for some walks). There are freshwater springs (3 in Guajar Alto) which are free for anyone to use - no need to buy bottled water (except to get the bottle in the first place).

In Guajar Alto, Fresh bread can be bought at the mini supermarket, or from the bread van that visits several times a day. Likewise, a fruit and veg van and a fresh fish van call. Guajar Faragüit has a ruined fortified Moorish village called el Castillejo. This village also has a weekly market on Saturday mornings.

The nearest large town is Motril which has a hypermarket (Alcampo) for those things that you can't get in the small local shops. Motril also has a very nice heladeria (ice cream parlour). If you want to have a drink overlooking the sea then Salobreña has what you're looking for.

Alternatively, call into Los Moriscos golf club's bar. It's also worth a look around the hilltop castle at Salobreña - there are bars/restaurants on the way and the views are quite spectacular.

In Los Guajares you can also find other things to do, such as horse riding and we've also seen quad bikes around.
