This sixth floor apartment is part of one of the first buildings built in Torre del Mar in the 60's. Most owners are Spanish elderly people. The building is located in the middle of the historic centre. Almost all apartments including ours have been completely renewed in 2007. No reserved parking available however, there is free parking and car parks in the neighborhood with free space most of the time. Just next to a well-equipped city beach with its many ‘chirinquitos’ (beach restaurants) all integrated into a large promenade featuring green areas, tennis courts and children's play areas. The beach is equipped with many public showers. You can walk east along this very long promenade until the fishing harbour and marina at Caleta de Velez. You have everything within a short walk day and night.

Notes on prices
50 euros/£34 for cleaning up the apartment before/after your stay. 275 euros/£186 as guarantee. It is fully returned to you after a check at the end of the stay. 70 euros/£48 for shuttling from/to the international airport of Malaga (AGP). Our tenants may also get 15% off their car renting from the airport (HelleHollis rent-a-car). Ask our code when booking.

Changeover day
Fully flexible. Arrival after 5pm if a previous tenant is leaving that day. Departure before noon if the next tenant is arriving that day.

Living Rooms: Ceiling fan, 3 seater sofa bed (double bed), cable TV, TDT decoder (digital), DVD reader, phone, Internet access via ADSL/3Mbps and with WiFi across the apartment. Large table for 6 in the dining room.
Other: Electrical oil-filled radiator for winter.
Cleaning/towels/

Thoroughly cleaned before each let. Bed linen, house towels are supplied. Beach towels not supplied. Water, electricity (no gas), cable TV, phone calls to fixed numbers in Spain, ADSL / Internet included no extra cost. electrical water-heater.

 

Notes on accommodation
The apartment has been occupied during 25 years by a retired man who eventually died at the hospital of Torre del Mar at the end of 2005. In 2006 and in the first half of 2007, we have renovated every single squared foot (both horizontal and vertical) in this apartment. We have started renting again on the 1 August after our own holidays in the apartment. We had 4 different Spanish families every week in August, French people in September and Belgian people in October/November. We have positive remarks from them and even a few offers to buy the apartment. It has everything we are looking for when taking holidays with our kids or even without them. The sea is full of life. It's also quite funnier and healthier than a chemical pool while finding a parking lot is never a problem. The mainly Spanish community in the building is very peaceful and welcoming. The place is also full of good memories and friends so we have no plan to sell it.

Accessibility
We are not recommending this apartment for people in wheelchair unless they have someone to help them especially to get into the bathroom. Bathroom's door is only 60cm wide. Bedrooms' doors are regular (70cm wide). The rest of the apartment and also the building entrance up to the lift itself should be ok.

Outside
The previously existing terrace has been integrated into the living room in 2006 and closed by large windows which can be left opened without risks day and night (6th floor!). The brand new double-glazed gliding windows, the brand new easy to operate roller shutters outside the windows and the brand new thick curtains inside the windows are protecting the apartment from the heat. With the window in the laundry at the back, it is easy to create a cooling draught across the apartment in the summer. The apartment is facing south-west and is getting sun from early PM until the sunset behind the hills.

Coast/Beach
Just take the lift down to the ground floor and you are in front of the beach. You have a small street and the promenade to cross before setting foot in the sand. When the waves are reaching a decent size, you can hear them from the apartment. Mainly in the summer, you might get a very calm sea. That's the best moment (best visibility!) to put your mask and have a look at the many fishes risking their lives in this fishing area. Fishing boats are cruising just off the beach!

Golf
Baveria golf (18-hole) located just outside Torre del Mar, 2 or 3 mins by car eastward along the promenade. Añoreta golf (18-hole) located at Rincón de la Victoria, 10 mins by car westward via the highway to Malaga. Please contact for website addresses.

Skiing
Sierra Nevada near Granada is less than 2 hours drive and is Europe's most southerly ski resort, hosting top Alpine ski tournaments. It is open from December to April and has many ski schools, nursery slopes, ski hire, apres-ski restaurants, bars, shops, ski-lifts and cable cars.

Special interest holidays
Activities are countless in the area: sport harbour, sport airport, golf, parks, historical monuments from Palaeolithic remains to the Spanish succession war, fairs and all variety of restaurants. Torre del Mar is famous for its fried 'pescadito malagueño'. You can find companies in Nerja or around in the area organizing paramotor, horse back riding, jeep safaris, quad, cannoning, scuba diving, paintball, flying, kayaking, catamaran, mountaineering and so on. Huge mall featuring a huge Eroski hypermarket, various shops, restaurants and movie theatres, a few minutes towards Velez-Malaga by car or by the brand new tramway operating since 2006 (the first tramway in Andalousia in the modern times). Books in English at El Ingenio, many books over mountain walks in the area. Please contact for website addresses.

Travel
35 mins away by car from Malaga (AGP). A car is not at all required. Our housekeeper can organize a shuttle from and to the airport 7 days a week. We are providing a shopping carry bag with wheels to easily shop around in Torre del Mar even with several heavy 5 litre water bottles. But renting a car would allow you to visit Andalousia. For example get to the Alhambra in Grenada in a couple of hours. It would be also useful to carry around your equipments for scuba diving or playing golf.

Distances
By car: 5 mins to Velez-Malaga towards the country, 20 mins to Nerja eastward along the coastal highway, 30 mins to Malaga westward along the coastal highway, 30 mins to Periana (547m) in the mountains back in the country towards Velez and also 35 mins to Ventas de Zafarraya (920m) in the same direction.

Further details
Town historic center with very nice walks along the beach or along paseos inside the city, bar and restaurant terraces everywhere, many shops, supermarkets, banks, just name it. Just outside Torre del Mar, you have a water park (Aquavelis, open only in the summer), a carting (Carting del sol), an 18-hole golf course (Baviera).

Booking notes
Booking is mainly managed by our housekeeper. It is in fact a professional service speaking English, Spanish, German, French and Italian, opened 5 days a week and reachable via mobile the rest of the time. We are kept informed of the planned occupation. It's easier to deal directly with them. Your first payment confirming the booking is always done on our bank account. We are then receiving a copy of the renting contract as you. You pay the rest in the apartment. They can support you any time!

House swap
House swap considered. We are living in Brussels. We have two kids who likes beaches like the ones in Torre del Mar. I am scuba diving. My wife prefers trekking in mountains as found around Velez. This makes holiday negotiations challenging every year.
