Centrally located, Cortijo Lo Alto is an excellent base for all purpose hollidays: walking, cycling, horseriding, skiing, Andalucian city visits or relaxing and enjoying the countryside. Within 5 mins from the Autovia Granada, Motril-Salobreña. Fully equipped kitchen, 2 bathrooms, lounge with wood burner, Satellite TV. The large vine-shaded patio is a wonderfull place to take breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can wear off the heat in our small pool. Enter the property through a large gate, there is space to park up to 2 cars. We have a terraced garden with fruit trees and flowers which we are still developing. The house has breathtaking views (we are located at 950m) of the valley, Durcal and Niguelas. As there is almost no light pollution you can enjoy counting stars and the air is so fresh you can taste it. To enjoy Winter you're just 45 min away from an actual ski village and also 20 min drive from the Costa Tropical where you can enjoy milder temperatures.

Notes on prices
Prices are for the property per week in euros. Payable by bank transfer to our Spain bank account. Transfer costs are not included, and at the clients expense. Discounts for long lets (more than 2 weeks), on request. Shorter periods on demand (min. amount 350 euros). Bathing towels available 7.5 euros/pp/p week.
Long lets excl. gas/elect/water/linen (can be provided if necessary). Cleaning and pool maintenance can be arranged if necessary.

Changeover day
Arrival and departure are fully flexible as is the changeover day, except for July and August and within its limitations of occupation, off course.

Accommodation

 

Notes on accommodation
There is heating in every room, air-conditioning is absent (the house itself is a cool place in Summer). It is suitable for children except for the pool which is 1m 20 x 1m 60 deep. Please inform our contact to provide child bed and accesories. As this region is the healtiest place in Europe, we strongly recommend it to all people with health-problems eg astma, rheumatism, fibromyalgia...

Accessibility
As the property is terraced, it is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Outside
We have a large sized patio with terracotta tiles, shaded by a vines and walnut trees. We have 4 lounge beds and a lot of terrace chairs and tables. All this is unthinkable without a great BBQ place off course! Pool, which is as the whole property, private, is heated (solar-mat) but because of its good size (3m x 5m) this is rarely necessary in Summer. It can be used from June to September and is cleaned on a weekly basis. The garden is like nature around us: filled with grass and wild flowers and plants, but nevertheless beautiful. We are still in the process of landscaping but we keep it all in great shape. It is terraced and can be locked off for smaller children. Our only neighbour is an extremely friendly farmer who stores wood (for the fireplace) on his property next door. He can take you on a magnificent trip into the mountains, but he only speaks Spanish!

Coast/Beach
Beaches are various and at only 20 min driving distance. Salobreña is quiet during the week, but busy at weekends, as it is a place where Spanish people, mainly from Granada, like to spend their free time. Almuñecar (35 min), Motril (30 min) and lots of smaller but beatifull beaches in both directions. In Almuñecar is a big waterpark, near Granada a smaller one (20 min). Beautiful, but at a 2 hours drive, is Cabo de Gato (Almeria).

Golf
There are 2 golf courses within 15-30 mins drive. Motril on the coast is a 9 hole course with a variety of different tees. It is a flat, easy course with some interesting holes. Granada is one of the oldest courses in Spain and is a good test of your golfing ability. A very interesting course with some really great holes. Both courses have full facilities. There are a great many other courses in the area.

Skiing
At an altitude of 2320m the Sierra Nevada Sol y Nieve resort is the most southern ski resort in Europe. Just 45 minutes drive from Nigüelas the area offers something for everyone. The ski season runs from late November to late May. A full selection of equipment is readily available for hire including snowboards and toboggans. Rapidly gaining in popularity as an alternative way of getting down the pistes is either dog sledging or riding down on large inflatable inner tubes. There are a large number of ski hire shops, restaurants and bars in Pradollano together with good parking facilities. Founded in 1964 there are now 70 pistes offering over 76km for beginners to the most fearless. The longest descent, Pista del Alguila runs for 6km from Veteta Peak to Pradollano.

Special interest holidays
Lake Beznar with its fantastic head of wild carp is just a few minutes drive. Cicling holidays can start here aswell, and are gaining a lot of popularity in the valley. Please inform for more details

Travel
Granada airport is 15 minutes drive and Ryan Air have a daily service from Stanstead and Liverpool. Malaga and Almeria are both within an easy 2 hour drive. We feel that a car is essential to get the best from the area also because of its sandy access road, this is indispensable.

Distances
Granada and the Alhambra are 15 minutes drive. The Costa Tropical is only 20 minutes drive and the world famous Caves of Nerja are 1 hour. The historic cities of Cordoba and Sevilla are less than 2 hours away. The Alpujarras are closeby (2 hours walk) -10 min drive to first city.

Further details
Within a few minutes walk of Cortijo lo Alto there are four bars, two of which serve traditional Spanish meals at very reasonable prices. There are 2 small general stores, three bakeries, a bank and a lovely churchyard. There is an olive oil museum and horse riding and walking tours are available while Lake Beznar with its fantastic fish for wild carp is just a few minutes drive. Don’t miss a ride through the lovely scented orange plantations of the Lecrin Valley just 5 min away. All further information is located in the house book inside the Cortijo and extra information can be provided by the local contact persons. If you should like to buy tickets for the Alhambra, book guided visits through the Sierra Nevada or go horseback riding, take Spanish lessons and so on, we can arrange all this prior to your stay.Extra wood for the wood-burner can be purchased with the neighbour very cheap!

Booking notes
25% deposit with booking and full payment 4 weeks in advance. Also a damage deposit of 250 euros is payed on arrival, and will be refunded after your stay. Once we've confirmed booking you will be contacted by our local agent who will provide you with all the nessessarry details. Prices include heating, gas, electricity, water, wood for of and use of pool. November - March there is an extra cost for electricity + gas 50 euros/week.
